🚴‍♂️ Why is Amsterdam full of bicycles?
It’s not just a charming stereotype — it’s a deep part of the city’s identity.
In this quick 60-second video, we explore the fascinating story behind Amsterdam’s bike culture — from chaotic streets to becoming one of the most bike-friendly cities on Earth.

In the 1970s, the city faced rising car traffic and a wave of road accidents, especially involving children. This led to massive public protests, calling for safer and more sustainable transportation.
As a result, Amsterdam completely redesigned its urban plan — removing cars, adding protected bike lanes, and turning the city into a cyclist’s dream.

🌍 With its flat landscape, compact layout, and environmentally conscious citizens, cycling naturally became the smartest and most popular way to get around.

🚨 Crazy Fact: Today, Amsterdam has more bikes than people — over 880,000 bicycles for just 850,000 residents! You’ll even see massive bike parking garages and dedicated traffic lights for cyclists!

  1. In 1990 Los angeles, I was riding a very expensive bicycle and wearing a very expensive suit. Coming home from work in a very nice neighborhood, the police pulled me over and word for word, he said "the only reason a white man is riding a bicycle is because you are a drunk and lost your license or a drug addict and you sold everything to support your habit." I never drank, smoked, took drugs or meds. Anyway, I laughed and said "and yet in China 60,000 people ride bicycles for their health and the environment." To this day I still ride a bike which is one of many reasons why I'm still thin, healthy, never been sick, and never even been to a doctor.
