I am debating what I should get for my first entry/medium bike to start ‘proper’ biking. I currently commute with a bike (Specialized Triple Allez 2009) but want something new to only use for endurance biking. Planning to start riding on the weekends ~10-20 miles then slowly increasing that amount depending on if i like it or not.
I have narrowed it down to these options: Polygon Strattos S7X and Trek Domane AL 5 Gen 4. Although both have different specs, they each have their pros and cons at their $2000 price point.
Polygon Strattos S7X
Pros:
1) Carbon frame, fork and Shimano 105 Di2 group set (Biggest pro compared to the Trek)
2) Only upgrade supposedly needed is carbon wheels (possibly Elitewheels ENT Disc 2.0 from AliExpress?), and/or seat post, seat, handlebar.
Cons:
1) Will have to order through bikesonline.com and might need to wait 2-4 weeks for it and then assemble by myself (which I have no experience with)
Trek Domane AL 5 Gen
Pros:
1) Buying on sale directly from my LBS who is a Trek dealer. Purchase comes with basic fitting, additional two tune ups, good customer service, and warranty.
2) Bike is prebuilt and probably already tuned, just purchase and take it out of the shop ready to use.
Cons:
1) Alloy frame, carbon fork, and Shimano 105 group set (Biggest con compared to the Polygon)
Please help me decide, thank you!
