Hello! Welcome to our vlog! But first, let’s take a taxi! Wait, a Tesla for a cab?! Well, this was a first. So anyway, we’re taking you around Nice in this video! We arrived in the first week of June, and spent the next two weeks exploring the French Riviera. We chose Nice as our base and did day trips from here. Can’t wait to show you the rest! For now, let’s show you around the center of French Riviera. Welcome to Nice! The ride to our hotel cost us €40 in total, already including the €8 base fee. [TJ] We can chill there. The view here is so nice! Don’t worry, there’s an elevator haha What we liked best about this hotel is its location. It’s near the train station. And there are lots of shops, restaurants, and even a grocery nearby. But let’s save that for later. The tram is also just a short walk from the hotel, making it really easy to get around Nice. But like any major city, always keep your guard up as pickpockets often target busy tram and tourist spots. Nice is a beautiful city. Enjoy it, but stay alert. Now, onto the fun part. Let’s start exploring the city! Vieux Nice is the historic Old Town in Nice. It’s Europe. There’s always an old town, and it’s always a must. Right in the middle of Vieux Nice, you’ll find this little square full of restaurants, cafés, and gelato shops. It’s also where you’ll find Nice Cathedral. A beautiful baroque cathedral you shouldn’t miss if you’re in the old town. One last look before we go. Time to eat! This restaurant is a favorite among both locals and tourists looking to try authentic pan-bagnat, pissaladière, and socca! It’s a thin, crispy pancake made from chickpea flour, olive oil, water, and salt. me thinking it was a sweet pancake We also tried pissaladière. After our quick lunch, we randomly stopped for some gelato. Did some souvenir shopping and more window shopping 😀 Somehow, every turn led us to either a café or a restaurant. Off to our next stop! We almost missed the chance to visit this next destination because of the UN Ocean Conference happening in Nice. They’re closing this area the next day until our last day here. Talk about perfect timing! There’s a free elevator to the top, but we took the stairs. Felt like the view would be more worth it that way. They say this is the best viewpoint in Nice. Up here with this view? It’s hard to argue. Hard to capture just how stunning it really was. Next up on the list… Let’s have a quick rest, maybe? From this point on, clips won’t be in exact chronological order since we did a few day trips in between. But we’ve organized the video in a way that’s easy to follow and easy to adapt however you like. Place Masséna is often referred to as the heart of the city. Because of its location being at the center, almost everything can be reached by foot from here. There’s a tram nearby too, so it’s really easy to get around. Fontaine du Soleil is the iconic fountain at the center of Place Masséna. That’s Apollo right there! Say hi! Anyway, we got this from here when someone asked if we would like to have a photo of us printed in a newspaper like this one. They only asked for a small donation. Best souvenir we got from this trip! There are restaurants around too. Let’s eat! We could stay here all day because not gonna lie, you’ll need sunscreen, lots of water, and maybe enjoy a little shade like this one. If you want, you can book a taxi bike to take you around the city. But Nice is one of those cities where walking is part of the experience. So while you’re still here, enjoy this mini walking tour! Let’s go to the beach! Because what’s a summer in Nice without a little sunburn? Nice isn’t known for sandy beaches. It’s all pebbles here! And even in the middle of summer, the water is freezing cold! No way I’m getting in there. I honestly wonder how some people make it look so easy. I’ll just stay here. Not risking hypothermia today. So having something to read is a must! Nope, we’re not done yet. Let’s go somewhere slightly away from the city center. This Orthodox cathedral is known for its stunning architecture. Just look at all those details. Even inside is a masterpiece. This area is open to visitors, but for you to get inside, you need to wear a scarf. You don’t have to bring your own, they lend them out for free at the entrance. Time to head back. Wait, we’re on the beach again? Well, why not? It’s our wedding anniversary! We ordered steak, fries, and pasta. It was good! The truffle pasta was good too. Next stop! This was created by the French artist Sabine Géraudie. It is the unofficial ‘I made it to the French Riviera’ photo spot. Here’s another spot in case you’re looking to see a bit more! Port Lympia is the main harbor of Nice, surrounded by a charming neighborhood full of colorful buildings. We were only there for a bit— just passed by after our Monaco trip. This area is pretty laid back. We’ll definitely consider staying here next time we’re in Nice. Time to go. Just happened to pass by this plaza on our way back. We’re wrapping up soon, but not without one last bus ride to take it all in. On our last full day in Nice, we went back to the old town. Because I wanted to buy a bag I ended up buying this! It fits the vintage Celine charm I bought from one of the flea markets in Cannes. We almost didn’t stop by Cours Saleya until our last day. From fresh flowers and fruits to local produce and handmade goods, it perfectly captures the French way of life— slow mornings and just taking the time to enjoy even the boring parts of the day. This is a good place to try the local delicacies, especially if you missed them earlier in your trip. Then we did a bit more souvenir shopping after. There’s a Fragonard here? That’s where we learned to make perfume! But more on that in another video. We’ll miss this. On our way to our last terrace lunch with a view! Pizza, always. Or was it because it’s the cheapest one that’s good for two? [TJ] Just here to eat, compute later! Let’s drink to that! See you next time, Nice. But wait, we’re not done yet! Let’s have one last look at Place Masséna. This is the main shopping street in Nice. Where were we? Oh right, shopping! Cafés here are so chic too! And weirdly the most fun part of every trip, grocery shopping! Plus, it’s definitely the cheaper way to eat in Europe. These are cured meats (cold cuts), so they can be eaten raw or cooked. Pair it with bread and you’ve got a full meal for under €5 haha The Monoprix branch on Avenue Jean Médecin also has ready-to-eat meals if you’re looking for alternatives. Gotta get some desserts too! This one’s sooo good! Another option if you’re on a budget! Budget tip? Go for the kiddie meal haha It’s actually big! And the best part? Drinks are unlimited! Wait, did you hear that?! Haha there’s a Uniqlo store nearby too! Thanks for watching!
