Hidden away in Alloway, close to the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum, there is a tunnel on the cycle track. Like the Colinton Tunnel, in Edinburgh, the Alloway Tunnel is now being used as an art installation.

[Music] hi there folks welcome back to the channel in this video I am actually in Aloe so just to the set of air actually parked up at the Robert Barnes Birthplace Museum cuz where I’m trying to get to is the Aloay uh tunnel art project i think it’s an old kind of railway tunnel that’s been turned into a a kind of art gallery where it’s kind of a lot of street art up on the the tunnel walls a bit like uh the Colington tunnel uh out towards Edinburgh and I’m pretty sure it’s nearby uh I think it’s there’s a we some paths I’ve seen down to the just off the side of the road so I’m going to try and see if I can find my way down to it and bring you along with me there is a website for it so I will link that in so you can nosy to see what’s going on and see what’s happening hopefully the rain will stay off cuz it as I driving down from here the rain came on quite heavily and seem to just just be like a heavy really heavy downpour and it’s gone off again but but I’m going to go and try and find this tunnel it does look as quite interesting and yeah be an interesting little walk and again if you enjoy my channel if you enjoy my videos if you can click on the on the subscribe button click on that notification bell leave some likes leave some comments it’s always really appreciated and if you’d like to support the channel further you can also click on the join button and become a channel member you can also follow me on Tik Tok and Blue Sky so with that road I’m going to grab my things and head on out uh there seems to be this little path just in here on the other side of the road so I’m sure it must be down here never actually been down this way before there’s a few foot path down there so hopefully I’m going the right direction have a way steep approach don’t How much is that the steepness is showing up in the the camera but yeah just take your time as we say in Scotland less rush haste okay not too sure which way I go guessing this must be part of the cycle path so going to go along this way and see if it’s up here yeah I think I came in the right direction cuz I’m that looks like the mouth of the tunnel right there looks a bit dark and creepy from here but hopefully this is the tunnel in question and going to get still to see the artwork so here it goes yeah so definitely a tunnel h it’s not it’s not that it’s not the right one oh no it’s just further ahead there’s another tunnel heading i can see a lot of it painted even from here so that’s not it’s not that much further to go yeah so they have a we sign for it just here and you can use the QR codes to go onto their website and donate there if you want to help support the project or you can just go into the website and donate donate directly there and that the tunnel itself is actually on the air coastal path which uh goes I think through Dure and Green so it looks like green and castle on that so that’s the tunnel just right ahead so that’s the tunnel there goes right underneath the main roads so there’s been probably been lots of people like me have driven right over this and not realized it’s here i don’t think they’ve done the whole tunnel yet though but go in and have a we nosy yeah so if you can quite see it there but they’ve got alleyway on written on that side and tunnel written on that side so pretty much let you know where you are you can hear how echoy it is in here yeah they’ve only done part of the tunnel so far or they’ve got their stuff up the walls yeah it is very like uh the Collington tunnels yeah I wonder if it’s even the same artist the artwork does look very similar obviously celebrating area’s connection to Robert Burns also got people performing music drinking be being merry also there’s information right here as well so it’s always really good support projects like this and they’ve got these information plaques along the walls it’s obviously suggesting another place we can go and visit and yeah so try and walk along to the other side of the tunnel so there are to those reinformation boards and have a good look at the artwork yeah and they’ve actually don’t know if you can quite see it because of the glare from the lights but they have actually painted the roof as well so definitely really nice addition to the the coastal path and Alo itself yeah I think this one is a reference to Bund’s poem to a mouse so we sleek at curious timberous beasty with the panics in so B was out farming obviously telling the land and he disturbed a little miss and he wrote the poem about it yeah so in this section they’ve pretty much got it all finished or not right till quite to the ends but then obviously still going to be working on this wall here i am loving the artwork on this yeah they haven’t painted the roof at this bit yet but again an art project this size definitely going to take time it’s quite a spooky little section there yeah obviously reference to Tamashanta i’m seeing the devil and the witches through the window the the old Kirk before I get chased by the witch cottis yeah that’s me just coming out from the other end of the tunnel um yeah so we’ll have to walk back through in order to get back to the car but again definitely a really lovely thing to come and like visit and spend some time exploring and just appreciating the artwork but going try and walk up over this bridge a we bit and try and get views of the river cuz I can hear it flowing flowing underneath the bridge might get some nice views it’s the bridge over the river must be the river Dune and that’s what I was hearing i was hearing the the water coming over the little waterfall down there could be weird there’s three bits we can step in and get some nice views of the river you can just see that’s the main roads bridge over there and get a nice little view of the river down there yeah so just heading back through the tunnel and then back to where I’ve left the car yeah I’ve just noticed as me back through that this mural here is actually a mural of the new and it’s harbor if you can just see in the top corner just there that’s the new castle you’ve got the row houses where the harbor cafe is we got the harbor rose boats oh that’s the back of the car yeah and that’s really enjoyed that little visit to the Alway Tunnel art project and something that I would definitely recommend visiting especially if you are visiting Aloay if you’re exploring South Asure heading down to Carrick definitely stop off and have a little view of the the art project gets a bit hidden away but it’s one of those kind of ones that is a proper hidden gem is a bit a we bit off the beaten track but definitely somewhere that I would recommend going and just having a little walk and just spend some time on the psychopath and just seeing some glorious public artwork so yeah again definitely a great place to stop off at if you are in the South Air area so hopefully you’ll enjoy this video hopefully you’ll find it interesting and I’ll see you all in the next one bye-bye

  1. It's so beautiful isn't it! 😍 I've visited a few times now. They even used real local people as some of the characters. If you keep walking along the cycle path after the bridge, you'll reach Greenan Castle which is about 4 kilometres away 😀
