Strasbourg is an iconic city which draws 10 million tourists each year (yes, really)! It’s not only one of the best cities for enjoying historic architecture, but it’s also a hub for culture, gastronomy, and art. Strasbourg is also very accessible – not just from within France, but also from the neighboring countries such as Germany and Switzerland. In this video, we ride down from Karlsruhe, following the twists and turns of the Rhine, enjoying pristine champagne gravel along the way, as well as a number of other charming towns, villages, and landscapes.

There are also many train stations along this route allowing you to shorten/lengthen the trip as you see fit. I really wanted to ride down from Karlsruhe, but there’s no shortage of places you can start/end from. If you’re coming from Germany, the Schwarzwaldbahn runs right on the western edge of the Black Forest, which is very near the Rhine, and the French border. There’s a number of stops along that route where you can start/end your bike journey.

You can also very easily do this ride as a road ride instead of gravel. There’s wonderful cycling infrastructure throughout France and Germany, and you certainly don’t have to go the gravel route if you don’t want to. If you choose the road however, you’ll miss out on a lot of these beautiful panoramic views of the majestic Rhine 😉

[Music] hey folks let’s take a quick look at the route that we’re going to see today so this is going from Krua to Strasborg and then down to Offenborg so this is the way that I did it um this was a gravel route i want to highlight this i’m sure there’s a ton of different ways you can do it on a road bike but I wanted the gravel route so I started at Krua uh Dual to be precise East Krua then I went through Rashtat and then I followed the Ryan River basically all the way to Strasborg and after which whoops I made my way to Offenborg to take the train back home i really like this route it did not involve any ferry crossings uh both cases here I rode through a bridge the bridges had a separate section for cyclists and pedestrians which was awesome didn’t need to get into the mix of things with traffic and overall the route was wonderful about 113 km with 600 m of climbing so really really really flat if I’m being fully honest you do not feel any kind of steepness um 600 meters over one 100k is just yeah just flat you can go and cruise and enjoy the gravel enjoy the views to the rine and last but not least enjoy the atmosphere the cafes and restaurants of lovely Strasborg [Music] [Music] hey folks just stopped for a little bit check out the scenery looking pretty good uh it’s been very grally up until now so we’re about uh I think about an hour uh yeah according to the wahoo into the route been super grally um but very nice very flat mostly champagne gravel not a lot of um yeah things out of the ordinary here maybe we can see that ah wonderful [Music] all right and here we are at Arashtat that is a major city between Kasu and Strasborg and this was filmed on a Saturday morning so you can see the market just setting up and I wanted to take a quick loop around it see what people are up to see what kind of awesome stuff is being offered and just also kind of check out the square and the historical buildings but um it is a really cool place worth stopping at or if you want to shorten your journey this is a really good place to start it from um you could basically take the train from Kaurua to Rashtat and actually start biking from here um you could even take the train farther south but totally up to you just want to highlight the Rashtat as a wonderful place to stop along the way [Music] okay folks I am about 40k in um got out of Rashtat just now and we are in this wonderful completely idyllic setting i mean it’s just it’s just gorgeous um we’re getting closer and closer to the rine um so this is a bit of a grally section here going to follow some canals um that ultimately outlet to the rine but I mean in the meantime just just look at this place um really really beautiful i don’t know if you can see there’s some swans there in the distance um just kind of swimming around doing their thing uh earlier there were some cranes um really majestic creatures beautiful scenery we can see the view to the vest there to the black forest um yeah and with this water just really beautiful really beautiful excited to get to the banks of the Rine and see what awaits us there um lots of gravel right now coming up but it looks to be this wonderful uh champagne stuff so um yeah bike’s been doing solid uh can’t complain looks like one of my bottles is about to pop out of the bottle cage but um yeah other than that doing pretty good this is my first time with the side loading bottle cage so I chuck it up to an experience but yeah so far so good [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] heat hey Heat [Music] hey folks we are in France it looks suspiciously similar to Germany but ever so different so just crossed the Ryan River uh via a bridge um it was pretty chill there was um yeah dedicated section for bikes um so didn’t really need to um yeah get involved with any cars or anything like that but um here we are we’ve got infinite flat gravel for as far as the I can see a heck of a long yeah straight flat ride but I get to enjoy these views of the beautiful river so that’s pretty good let’s get to it strasburg is about 10 15k away we’re about 65 right now so looking forward to it [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] now here obviously we are getting closer and closer into the hot of Strasborg and as you can see there’s not a ton going on on the streets and it is very bike friendly but nevertheless exercise caution please obey traffic rules obviously um there’s a lot going on and people are pretty careful but um doesn’t hurt to be extra careful right you can kind of see here especially in a warm beautiful day like today um there’s a lot going on cars are moving bikes are moving people are moving Very awesome energy to just kind of be there and experience it but also worth being a little bit careful [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] so after leaving Strasburg B i opted to ride to Offenborg where I took the train back to Krua um there’s a lot of options lots of other train stations you can go for or you can ride back up if you are so inclined but um that’s kind of what I chose to do beautiful last little bit of gravel and forest and nature to close out a wonderful journey always love coming through very convenient with the train station and just a lovely atmosphere altogether [Applause] [Music]
