day six from Oviet to Braniano 64 miles,400 m of climb a countryside with many hilltop towns cycling up to a hilltop town this is Bombasio a hilltop town with a 9% incline to get up here 13 mi of climbing in every town there are businesses and there’s lots stealing in marble another mountain top town i’m going to get a coffee hi Mariam marcel Roger i think this is beginning to be Bonfu training hill my first sign for Rome 69k now coming down into the valley of Rome where I will be going tomorrow i needed some great food after a big cycle and a fantastic fennel salad welcome to Italy at last I’ve spotted Brasiano Lake just where I’ll be staying it gets weirder and weirder day seven brasana to Roma 28 miles the rake and the brasiano and the castle super exhilarating cycling into Rome 22 miles an hour the roads go down from the seven hills inner city cycle path arriving at the Vatican on a bike and coming here cycling up to the coliseum but no blue skies arriving at hotel for lunch day eight roma to Terasino 76 miles i had this idea to cycle the whole of Italy on Roman roads 2025 years ago 5 months and 5 days Roman soldiers marched along this same path disappointed the Romans gave up cobbling the road i love Straa nothing better than a smooth road and a smooth bike martin when I see you next in Oxstead I’m going to give you a massive hug and kisses on the cheeks yeah that’s what Italian men do the chain ring that I’ve had it changed is just working perfectly thank you Martin and suddenly there was the sea the Mediterranean 30 mi on this seaside road straight as a die it’s 2:00 and I’m starving hungry now I am on a mission to find fantastic food we have found something rather amazing here just arriving at the hotel day nine terosino to Paloney 75 miles clifftop pays and sandy beaches descending into Gator with narrow streets and to my favorite bike shop luca replaces the sheer bolts on my chain rings 50 miles of straight straight straight straight straight straight roads a break with more seafood pasta a sign for Naples stunning lake and sea and a castle my goi and my room and a nap day 10 posalone to Pompei ruins to visit plus cycling now to Amalfi takes us to 60 miles today coming into Naples the whole of Naples is cobbles of various sizes and shapes nearly hard sight i’d never seen such shocking driving is in Naples another finally hit me this is called a Naples breakfast on the side of the road and I arrive pompei is truly astounding a third of it has yet to be excavated there’s Vuvius that caused the problem and what they’re discovering now is the most beautiful wall paintings perfectly intact and you and just stunning buildings it really is a place absolutely worth visiting chairman Richard I’ve been inspired by your mega long cycle trips to France etc i’ve just decided to do a detour from Pompei to Amalfi and I’ve got to go over a mega path and that wasn’t the plan thank you Richard for your inspiration
