@Bikepacking the Great British Escapades, North and South Downs way 2025.

Riding my first ever multi-day bikepacking event, join me as i take on this 490km, 8000m elevation gain route in the South East of the UK.

The event has a 3 day time frame on it with the field spread this year from 27 hours all the way to the full 3 days.

It is a good mix of gravel, road, singletrack, bridleways and some hike-a-bike.

An incredibly well organised event with a tough but doable route for a wide range of abilities, if you’re looking to jump into ultra distance cycling or bikepacking and like the off-road side of things then this is a great one to sign up for.

[Music] hey so out on the Great British Escapades north and south downs ride so about 485 490 km route around 8,000 m of climbing so awful lot of going up so we start over in Canterbury work our way uh west along the north down way into Surrey then down from Surrey to the South Downs way back along the South Down way all the way to Eastborne and then back up through Kent back to Canterbury at the start so the through as a three-day time cabinet so I’d like to try and aim to finish it in two two days that’s the aim so it’s currently4 to 6:00 p.m on Thursday it’s the aiming to be to finish at some point on Saturday maybe early early on Saturday morning hopefully but we’ll see see how it goes it’s a long way it’s a lot of climbing let’s get it heat heat heat up here so we are into day two so ended up stopping for a bit having a bit of a sleep overnight so I think I stopped at around probably 20 midnight then left off at about4 to 5 in the morning so I got probably four 4 and 1 half hours of of like rest uh so we got about 70 km to go to the first strike point over in Surrey so back near home and then big day today try and aim for around probably 200 km get over the South Downs to Eastborne and then probably have another bit of a rest before onto the finish heat heat heat heat [Music] [Music] heat heat [Music] heat heat heat heat heat heat so just through checkpoint one so 195 km in so back out now onto the course so we got a bit of a back track and then we turn and start heading south down to or through sorry towards the um towards South Downs and then checkpoint two is just at the end of the South Downs out Friston just before you get to Eastborne uh so yeah long day today but back out feeling pretty good had some food plenty of coffee and on let’s [Music] go [Music] heat heat she said she kissing your eyes let’s go let’s go and feel the ocean breeze where we make just arrived at Graphim so this is the the climb onto South Downs uh so quite a long climb uh it say about 2.6 km left on it started off all right getting really steep in the middle as you can see here kicks up massively in the middle up here so it’s going to be a bit of a hike bike through that section uh it’s pretty bumpy so it’s going to be more effort than it’s worth to try and ride up there so let’s get hiking to [Applause] die she said she kissing her [Applause] [Music] [Applause] heat heat [Music] come on come on one step as I take it sweet me [Music] away and above all I am passion tast distraction i feel every part is I am a seed in your garden i am a piece in your mind i am rush through my body i run and I can’t breathe stop to continue i [Music] am lost and ecstatic spinning i can’t speak a base in your being i [Music] am focus so we are into day three so got about 100 miles to do today um just camped short of the checkpoint the second checkpoint in Alfriston so that’s kind of probably 10k short maybe a little bit less than that actually of the end of the South Downs way or where we’re leaving just before Eastborne um and then it’s a good chunk of stuff on the road like riding on the road for the remainder so it should be a little bit faster um hopefully should sort of finish mid afternoon um camped at the bottom of a fairly steep climb so going to get a bit of a wake up immediately once they’re getting on the bike um yeah so slept reasonably well um sort of more comfy set up on some kind of dry grass well so it’s a bit bit more comfy than sort of hard floor so that was that was a benefit but yeah let’s go let’s get it done i feel every part as I [Music] am i see in your garden i am a piece in your madness i am I am I [Music] am I am I [Music] Yeah so I just checked in at checkpoint 2 uh so it was like a take a picture of yourself so um so there’s no sort of man checkpoint um and then back onto the last section of the South Downtowns Way so you got one more climb quite steep out of Alristen uh and then heading down towards um Eastborne we don’t quite get there but uh last little section and then onto the road and power on of [Music] course [Music] you just had a quick stop on top of yet another hill uh because we haven’t climbed up enough already um and yeah about 100 km left to go so hoping to finish kind of this evening uh so Saturday evening that’ll be about two and a bit days to get through the route um yeah generally feeling good like general bit of soreness fatigue but hands and hands and knees are all right hands are a bit sore but we’ll uh we’ll continue on and get it done so last 100k let’s go [Music] i was [Music] hoping last [Music] oh you always love one life one [Music] life you see one life one life one life [Music] i will [Music] This [Music] ocean so into the last 35 km or so so last couple of hours couple more climbs some one sort of steep one and then pretty much finished so yeah first couple of hours to get this done [Music] how [Music] will one last hiker bike never ending climbing won’t you wait with me for the sunrise sunrise holding close to me [Music] all far from here dust to dust and no dust in the air [Music]
