I was staying in the less savory part of a popular town last week. One night I absentmindedly chained my easily recognizable gravel bike outside of my hotel room. Someone wandered by at 5:30 AM the next morning, cut the chain and rode away. The hotel manager found the footage and offered a refund on the final night’s stay. I filed an E-police report as well. Interestingly enough, the police web report had no means of attaching photo or video. Odd, how ever would they find it? This is madness.

In the following hours, I combed Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist frantically for some someone hawking my pilfered beauty. It took some time, but the epiphany smacked me so hard I got whiplash. The fine fellow from the hotel’s video… probably doesn’t have a smartphone, a dumb phone, or electricity. I google pawnshops. Weird, none in a 10 mile radius. So post an Ad on Face/Craig for an attractively priced bike. Except it’s not an Ad, it’s a lost-posting with a finders fee and detail. How to proceed?
