5 days, 545 miles leaving from my house in Rochester and circumnavigating the lake counterclockwise. Route basically pieced together from various ridewithgps maps found. This served as a trial run to get ready for a bigger international tour later in the year. I lugged all my gear but all of my hosts via Warmshowers were gracious enough to let me crash without having to break out my tent etc. I did not cook, just packed snacks and bought food along the way. Was blessed with really great weather. I loved it, just such simple living. Wake up early, pedal pedal, eat, pedal, eat, etc… hardly any decisions to make. On NY side, mostly country roads – lake usually not visible. On the CA side, fair amount of roadway / bikeway right along the lake. Was a little messy getting into Toronto but once in the city proper it was great. Had some mechanical issues – the long bolt on Ortileb quick rack fell out and I was lucky to find it after 45 minutes of searching. About 15 miles from home I broke a second rear spoke and decided to call it in efforts to save the wheel (needed to be replaced anyways) – so I can really call it a tour around MOST of Lake Ontario.
