I wanted to hear everyone's opinion about this modification I made on a customer's bike last week.
Customer brought us her bike for a tune-up, but most specifically, she said her front derailleur stopped working when she installed a baby seat (new-ish mom, personal trainer, uses this as her current cardio). I realized her issue from across the room (she trapped the top-pull cable in the mount). Obviously I wanted to a) get a different rack/seat combo, or b) set her up 1x from 3x, but she needed a lot of other work & costs were getting maxed out. I thought of this on the spot, and currently, it works better than I imagined.
I checked out the bike, and found a brake-cable-cradle that fit perfectly (with a slim rubber mounting sleeve from a computer), and set it to rest on the existing post clamp. We went over the implications, and she was willing to try it. I should've taken a video! I wrapped the housing loosely around the post, got a straight shot (I turned around the existing clamp to face forward), and she knows that changing the saddle height will require a trip to a mechanic.
A bit about the bike: older XT & XTR equipped Gary Fisher, and a rigid carbon fork (legs pressed into crown).
