Gravel Blog: https://gravelgrind.de/

Yes, it’s finally Eurobike time again. We’re taking you on a tour of the trade fair and looking at the latest innovations in the road bike and gravel bike sector. Of course, we also want to pick up a few curiosities and get one or two interesting people in front of the camera. Have fun with the video and then we’ll walk straight into the huge Shimano stand. We’ve already found out that there are two big new products here. We’ll have a competent employee explain it to us. Hopefully, we’ll find one. We’re really lucky. We ‘ve found a brand manager for Germany in Philip and he even did his hair especially for us this morning. We heard yesterday that after the press tour, most of the journalists were really enthusiastic about the automatic gear shifting. Explain to us a bit how you can imagine it from a technical perspective. Basically, it’s about the fact that we have the individual parts in front of us, yes , that we have a system that allows us to shift gears fully automatically on a normal Biobike without having to charge a battery. We’ve achieved this by using the FHU 6060 rear wheel hub. They basically put the rear dynamo in the rear wheel hub. The circuit board is in here which then calculates when and how the entire system should shift. Oh, crazy, it’s always ridden with the Linkglide cassette with the Cues Di2 rear derailleur. And then there are several different options in the specification. You can have a shift lever on top where you can basically intervene manually in the shifting behavior or you can go for fully automatic shifting, where you don’t even touch the shift lever anymore. And the system basically learns your shifting behavior through previous shifting using a shift lever. Oh, crazy. It takes over your shifting processes, your shifting behavior and basically shifts forward automatically. How did you learn that based on which parameters, cadence or torque ? Yes, it’s important for the circuit board to remember at what speed, at what third frequency and at what gradient you shift. These are the three parameters that the system accesses. Then it decides on the shifting behavior, as I said, what you have entered into the system. It’s called adaptive learning. The system learns over time . It basically just records your own characteristics and automates them. Very exciting, especially in the touring sector. You just mentioned the Q. It’s already available on some gravel bikes and some cheaper racing bikes with drop shifters. Recently, it’s been said that this will also work with automatic gearshifts in the future. Sure, oh great, yes, yes. So you can use this auto system on a city tracking bike, as we can see behind us. You can equip your gravel bike with it. You can equip your cyclocross racer with it. I’m really waiting for the stuff to arrive in stock, because I’m going to install it on my cyclocross bike that I use to commute to work. Mega, really interesting. I think it really is a revolution, try it out. The next revolution that we saw yesterday was the GRX einm1. Can you tell us more about that in a day or two? Here you can play a bit to see how quickly you get into the highest gear. We probably have a lower cadence than in reality and the gearshift speed is also throttled, but it’s still really fast in my naive idea it would be easier to develop something that only has one chainring at the front instead of something that has two chainrings at the front yes Shimano is the world’s largest component manufacturer um for bicycles it’s primarily about what the customer wants yes and that was certainly the case when the new GX 1-speed 2 x 12 came out the OEM market asked that it would simply be followed is of course very clear Shimano might have already done that at the time but now the cat is out of the bag as to why it took us a bit longer because in terms of its function and the technology of the rear derailleur, it ‘s very similar to the new Di2 rear derailleurs from the mountain bike sector. And the new thing here is the rear derailleur. The left shift/brake lever, the right one has stayed the same. And the really big innovation, I think, is that you can switch it wirelessly. Or , exactly, we’re completely wireless. That means we’ve integrated the battery into the rear derailleur. You’ve already said it partly correctly. If you ride the classic single-gear system, you have the shift lever on the right, the brake/shift lever, and a pure brake lever. But there’s also the option of leaving the shift lever on the right and left and then operating the rear derailleur using virtually all six shift buttons. So that’s one option. They’re also available. Which cassettes are possible now? All the mountain bike cassettes, including XTR, or other new cassettes . You can use the existing 2-speed cassettes that were already on the market, CSM 6100, 7000, 8100, and 9100 bla blaaaba Shimano numbers are crazy or you go for the new mountain bike cassettes which are called something similar but always 8200 9200 in the XDR and XT range you can use those there is always the actual Greppel rear derailleur like we have here now includes the 1051 cassette from the XT range that would be this real Shimano lineup if you want you can also put an XDR chain cassette on it like we have here now if you want to specify the new mountain bike cassette with 945 even with the new launch ring exactly 945 then there is officially no GRX rear derailleur you could combine the whole system with the new XDR or XT rear derailleur and just happened to see here quickly there is a new version of the Willi Rave SLR which is one of the faster gravel bikes out there has now been reissued with a bit more tire clearance a bit more relaxed geometry but an even cooler design it looks like this a little more futuristic a little more aerodynamic an absolute dream bike I think this is the smallest racing bike that I have ever seen Valentino you are nine and you ride a racing bike almost every day did you just say are there many racing bikes in your size not that many which racing bike have you been riding up to now a T-Mobile T-Mobile yeah crazy what there is and from now on you’ll be on the bike or what’s your plan well soon in any case so next Wednesday I’ll get it then you’ll be racing with it too yeah it’s very cool because it has an electric gear system and adult bikes usually have that yes yes and children’s bikes not so much and the bike is the only one that has both disc brakes and electrics yes that’s right that’s a really important factor and do you know how tall you are yes 128 128 crazy it really looks like you are a young adult just with the bike it’s like it was tailored to you only scaled down really cool yes thank you very much Valentino all the best thank you and one of the absolute highlights I think is already clear is this children’s bike that is available as a women’s version or as a girls’ version from L but also from Giant for the boys or girls who are more interested in these colors and Marcelo is here you are You are the category manager at Giant for the youth bikes yes it’s so specialing those small bikes especially in road and gravel sector why is that I think the youth road bikes is receptive because in order to get kids to be able to enjoy road riding which is all about highsed fun you have to have such a degree of control yeah you have to be nimble and high speed so all the details every single one to be dialed in and so for us this was a long journey this was aye project starting from geometry testing to figure out kids writing patterns and their posture what’s the right crank length all of these things and even making the choice to go oversized wheel instead of a heavier gearing these are all design choices that we made based on our understanding of how kids prefer to ride and to enable them to go at speed at full control what would say main difference in geometry between kids bike grown bike kids growth designed in so we had many children hop on to our dynamic cycling fit machine which is available here to capture their body proportions and their preferred angles as they write as they exerting from there we were able to find that growth range so that growth line was partially what dictated a lot of our like seat angles head angles frame reach all of these things and then we layered on top of that handling characteristics that we needed to build in for an oversized wheel ah yeah so these are all elements that came together for just the frame fork cockpit but really what brought this whole thing to life was the brakes yeah in order for kids to be able to ride at speed confidently they need to be know they can control it and be able to slow to stop so we a lot of time working partners finding the rightak modulation curve throughers bikes may even all the bikes electronical shifting one options also makes shifting easier more flike more pry consumers price so we have two specs are correct specs are electronic shifting to get the kids to be able to control the bike change gears without losing control and with that in mind we actually at the high end with carbon wheel it’s right around the 000 range varies from country to country and then the entry more shiftingakingistics under 2000 man grow little bit longer person year one year May even years we do believe this will fit a child for two to years mainly because the way we design the geometry and the the frame lines that we are able to start the child on the platform at a 130 cm tall and ride all the way to 150 and even 155 yeah so it’s a it’s a very broad range frame platform first from the seat tube and and seat post range and if you check it out later on at the back of the seat post is actually a rider height marking nice thank you thank you so many kids thank you how long have you been riding a racing bike 5 years 34 years something 28 or so you started with such a small bike back then no yes look look around again to open up a whole new topic, we had never really looked into the topic of bags and transporting bikes, wolfi, what do you call that in technical terms, is it still bike packing or is it something else again? We call it bike travel, it’s a topic that has accompanied us since the company was founded in 2008, um, and we built these bike bags and they came out in different shapes and now we have the Roadbike Back Pro, especially for the community with drop bars, which simply gives us the option of packing bikes that have an aero cockpit, integrated cables and are just a bit more technical, we’d like to take a look, why does it have to be packed differently , basically, racing bikes are more fragile than a mountain bike, they are lighter built, they have thinner seat stays, thinner down tube, thinner top, a lighter fork, etc. With these aero cockpits and the integrated cables, the cables are of course shorter, which means that if you want to remove the handlebars, you often have to remove the brakes as well, and we wanted to avoid that, so you can just leave the handlebars as they are. You can also leave the seat post out like this. We call it Bike Fittingproof. You just take off the pedals and the wheels and then you can pack the bike. That means the two wheels are in here. Exactly. We have two bags here that are on the right and left of the main frame. They also protect the main frame. At the back here we see a small temple tube, let’s say, which can be extended to different widths. Well, depending on how wide the bike is, I can place it in different places and then I can say I might want to put it in here too. And that way I can ensure that the rear triangle is protected. Of course, it does cost a bit, the whole thing. a little something but if you’re at the point where you say man, I want to fly somewhere with my bike then I think 10% of the average purchase price of a racing bike for a case like that is okay too, that means €100 or I don’t think you’re riding a racing bike for €1000 but yeah, no, we’re looking at €895 yes, of course, it’s an expensive case but it will accompany you for the rest of your life unless you’re a professional who flies ten times a year then of course it depends on the wear and tear it depends on how an airline deals with it but basically the cases are very durable as you know from our products yes, yes, you’re simply really well known for all these cases it’s great that we were able to take a look inside thank you very much Wolf here and one thing we haven’t even discussed yet is that they have wheels so that they’re easy to maneuver at the airport if you somehow get them out of the S-Bahn or something like that we’ve built in skate wheels so that you can just push the case next to you and there’s no stress and has to struggle somehow or has to carry the thing it’s always important that the things are easy to handle yes, when it gets really hot again then you simply need Optimized tomorrow morning maybe what are you doing here you’re out and about with your trinket tray yes, save up for a trade fair stand and so on anyway got one a lot has happened with you what’s new uh I think the most interesting thing for most people is the Optimized Basic wax cooker fully automatic you have to fill in the right amount of wax 200g and then you can either fully automatically then it beeps when you should put the chain in beeps when you should take the chain out again so really chain wax for dummies ah very good so anyone can do it yes really anyone can but you can also use other wax it’s compatible with different waxes unlike the ultrasonic wax cooker which only works with my wax different viscosity at 90° and so on ah awesome okay please pay attention to the beautiful lid I didn’t skimp because there was no suitable lid and I thought no, without a lid it’s no good either Here with the Optimize logo in it, I ‘ve put a lot of effort into it, it looks really nice, right at the front you can see the heating, heatup, cooldown and you have the different steps, it goes from heatup to waxing to cooldown to ready, it then beeps when you’re waxing, when waxing starts and when you get to ready you can pull the chain out, it’s really done, what does the Gudi 99 cost, cheap, that’s why it’s called Optimal Basic, it doesn’t have the best mileage like the ultrasonic wax cooker, but it’s really super easy, anyone can do it, this Deo Wash and Wax, that’s the new bike cleaner with wax, you first spray the bike, it has a foam nozzle, you can actually wash it better, you aim better, you spray less and the cleaning effect is much, much better if you foam it up beforehand, of course it’s not in the interest of most manufacturers to use less cleaner than more, and then you spray it on, wash it off and go over it with a microfiber cloth, you have a very thin wax film on the bike and it’s there to ensure that less dirt and water and so on sticks to it, so the bike stays cleaner for longer, well, interesting, you’ll have to try it out, so in future the frame will also be waxed, so we’ll soon have wax on the whole bike, oh yes, oh yes, now all that’s missing is the brake cleaner, yes, that would obviously be bad with wax, then it won’t brake as well, you do n’t have to worry about it, the wax is applied so lightly that you won’t have any greasing on the brakes or anything like that, don’t worry, everything has been tested, you’ve also brought us a mega third sensation, yes, you just stole it from me, yes, oh, right, the Chainwear Indicator just happens to be in my bag, let me show you It’s stepless, you can measure the chain wear steplessly, so you do it from the top, so when it’s the open chain, you put it in at the top and then press and you can see how much wear there is and then the gap shows here, there’s an eccentric at the front and then it shows the chain wear and practically here it’s also directly engraved with when you have to replace which drive, for example, a ZFA drive is replaced at 05 10 11, sorry, 12 11 and between 05 and 075 and everything below at 1, a lot of people don’t know that, then you take a sprocket gauge, yes, that’s for aluminum, that’s not available anymore, chains are hybrid and so on, so it’s a nice chain gauge, mega, how much does it cost, 2999, cool, but that’s an investment and then you have it for different bikes exactly and the other gauges are then either go-no-go, so it either fits or doesn’t fit, but you have no feeling do I have to Maybe swap it in a month or do I have to swap it tomorrow ? Yes, yes, I am always amazed at how much your product range is growing. At some point I won’t be able to keep track of it all anymore. Or you really do need your own exhibition stand as big as Shimano’s here, which we’re currently filming at. Much bigger. So that will be available for Ram at some point. They’ll be launching pre-waxed chains for Ram soon, the flat-top models and so on. It took a bit longer than expected, but there’s still a lot to come. Do you do it with Connex, or what do you do with Connex? They stay for Shimano, but with the flat-top chains you can’t fit a, let’s say, Shimano-style chain. That’s why we have to use the original SRAM chain. Ah, okay, yes, you buy that from Sam, exactly. And then you have to degrease it. But we’ll have new degreaser soon, too. It’s not a solution, or hopefully not solvent-based anymore, but something else. It doesn’t stink anymore, it’s very pleasant and cool. Yes, you really have entrepreneurial talent, simply combined with a fine sense of what you can do on a bike. can really optimize I’m trying my best awesome awesome yeah I’m glad I’m glad that things are going well for you all the best do you now have an affiliate code for our viewers who say they absolutely need one of your optimize products an affiliate code we have Felix 10 10% as always and there’s the new loyalty points program friends that of course doesn’t count for the first purchase but through loyalty then only on the next purchase but with that you save the equivalent of 5% on the next purchase a 25 € order value can be redeemed straight away it’s like Payback oh yes even better at some point a pan will come in or something like that pot set cool but yes so Felix 10 when you order save 10% and also help us here as a small channel so that we can cover the Eurobike thank you Felix for making it possible and thank you if you also want to support the channel yes really good fair to you Felix thank you thank you too ciao ciao ciao when this video comes out we’re going on a big old crossing in four days with roughly the same setup just not in that pretty red max you’re from Seigleid nice that If you could pull yourself in front of the camera, you are known for building white bags, building very light bags, but now there are also what do you call the color, we call Segelight Red, bright red, it was always an accent on our bags and now the bags are coming in this red in the limited edition, it starts at the beginning of August and there are really limited numbers, so you have to be quick if you want them, can you give us a quick summary, what features do you have that are only available from you, how much does it cost and where does Clight actually come from, four questions at once, sorry, I’ll start from the back, we come from Bavaria, from Kiemsee, exactly, we have the mountains and lakes right in the area, so perfect terrain to test the bags, what makes it special, I think it was the second one, I didn’t even ask, but it would be interesting, yes, something similar, We are particularly light and aerodynamic. Yes, that’s the basics. Ultra light. We have the lightest bags on the market. You won’t find any other aerodynamic bags like this one at the front. An aerobag on the front which simply has an aerodynamic advantage and then, down to the last detail, it’s very well thought out to meet the needs of bikepackers. For example, a Toptu Back which opens to the back with a magnetic closure, giving you plenty of access. You can see what’s in the bag while you’re riding. You can just leave it open and when you’ve taken something out, you close it again and it locks securely. One feature is the stable hold, which is particularly good with us. For example, you know it from a lot of saddle bags that wobble back and forth, which is really annoying. With us, it’s very stable. We have a carbon stay and a tension system which clamps it very tightly to the saddle and therefore nothing wobbles. You’ll notice that all of the bags have one or two features which are more well thought out than you’re used to. The Arschrakete is also approved for carbon seat posts. Or exactly, yes. definitely and also fits very well on aero seat posts even very wide ones fit on it how many liters capacity does it have is the large one or the small one that’s the large one the 12.9 l and then we also have the small saddle bag over there with an 8 l volume yes exactly basically all our bags are always available in black and white white is also something special for our bags I think white is really practical especially when they ‘ve been in use for a while they’re no longer completely white but a bit sand colored or depending on where you’ve been riding for example as a trucker I also rode with the Cyclite with that bag of course it was really full of mud afterwards but two or three times with a sponge it was almost white again but just checking during the ride what bars I actually have with me what food I actually have left or clothes in there in general is so much more practical than if it ‘s just a black hole that everything sinks into and you can’t even open the thing want and you don’t even know what you’re carrying around with it clever to do it in white yes there are several advantages it doesn’t heat up so much so if you ‘re out and about in Spain in the summer the Snickers don’t melt so quickly you can find it quicker and it’s also more visible for drivers for example it has several functional advantages and just looks good there are already a lot of tail lights on the market but a lot is happening and Supernova has just developed something really clever and we’re talking to David about it david how are things going felix wonderful it’s great to have you here yes you just mentioned there are a lot of tail lights it took a bit longer for us but now it’s here and today I would like to introduce you to our Redstream series yes very much so you already have a lot of tail lights that are operated with an e-bike for example or can be operated with a dynamo but this is the first thing that can be operated with a battery why is it so important and why is it so special battery tail lights are very universal we can install them on an EMTB on a normal MTB we can install it on the city bike so it’s very universally applicable and especially now in the area of gravel yes biking what shouldn’t be missing is the Settleback we have talked to the bag manufacturers and many bag manufacturers offer this slot also called daisy chains yes and we have now used them to attach a light really securely I’ll show you how we unscrew it here this is an aluminum holder that we mount between the daisy chains yes we recommend taking as many daisy chains as possible it is enough to open a screw here push it through and close it and the rear light then works the installation is via Garmin screw cap and now I would like to come straight to the highlight Yes, of course, it’s a battery-powered rear light. We get very good runtimes, but this mounting position on saddle bags, as mentioned, was always difficult. Now we can simply clip it in and without tools. Depending on the orientation of the saddle bag, is it more horizontal like this bag? Do we align it or does it point upwards? So we can then adjust the whole thing without tools. How do I charge the whole thing with USB-C? USB-C is now standard. There’s a 5-year Supernova guarantee on this too. The housing and the mount are made entirely of aluminum. In order to bring another robust rear light onto the market, how long is the runtime now when it flashes like here, for example, exactly this mode that we can see now. That’s a real 100 hours. Wow, yes, recharging isn’t a top concern. You don’t even have to turn the light off when you’re on a long tour and sleeping. And what about the flashing anyway, because it’s not VZO-compliant the way it flashes here, or is it only VZO-compliant? Is there any loophole that you found? Exactly, there is flashing. You have to differentiate again. Permanent flashing is not allowed in Germany. Flashing for a brake light function is allowed because it is short-lived. Yes, yes, and that’s why this rear light has a brake light function and it has an emergency brake light function when we press the brake harder and what we are seeing here right now is the different modes being played through. There will also be an international version with different light levels and here, as I said, we read about the light time of up to 100 hours. The STVZO version. Permanent rear light. Permanent rear light. Echo and then the brake light. That’s 12 hours of light time. Yes, exactly. How much does it cost? At a price of €129, it’s still reasonable when you consider how much technology is in there. Yes, thank you very much, David. That is, that is absolutely award-worthy. I wish you the best of luck tonight at the awards ceremony. Yes, thank you very much. So far, I think we have seen significantly more innovations and interesting new developments than in previous years and here, too, there is an area that I find really exciting and that now also interests me. e.g. remembers the Beoked that will take place again in Dresden in the fall because this is the handmade section here and here we have Passoni a very interesting company that is now being introduced to us with the Stefano stefano commes tai sorry bad English so I just saw frame and it looks really how combine carbon fiber titanium how can you do that how do you make it holds up the strength producers okay so the the Vinci uh it was a bike made for the 30th anniversary of Passon only in limited numbers only 30 units after realizing that demand was really high we decided to make it available for the public and this is actually a really nice um piece because you have carbon in this section and you have carbon titanium in other sections carbo titanium oh that’s crazy I’ve never seen that before carbon wees the carbon here is wrapped so you can still do a made to measure frame and this upper part is glued inside the tubes of titanium the reason of is to make hover light titanium bike that is the thing of pedaling titanium bike but lighter and when you ride it will feel like a titanium bike or will it feel like a carbon bike it will feel like a titanium bike in terms of comfort because titanium is really flexible carbon compatible the best of bs looks absolutely spectacular absolutely fantastic work glad we ran into you something really special you don’t see much of those bikes bike unfortun thank you yeah handmade are show our J may [laughter] thank you so much ciao yes and so far my highlight is definitely the Orbea really can you give us a little tour of it because you definitely know more about it than we do unfortunately we haven’t found any Orbea employee who wants to say something to us about it on camera but you seem to be very knowledgeable about the topic Very competent is a matter of opinion but I would say I know a few things yes I know at least that we have 45 mm tire clearance here which is a bit less compared to the adventure bike but still allows a bit of leeway so they have brought out two different gravel bikes at the same time the pure race version ah yes that is the race version and the other variant is the bike packing adventure exactly is the adventure is the adventure bike yes but both are actually very sleek so both ride forward as I said the only difference is that we have narrower tires here although 45 is not really narrow yes um and be Red on the other 50 tire ah nice yes and exactly let’s take a look do you know how much all this stuff costs no I don’t know with Red it probably won’t be that cheap but the entry-level prices would be interesting the shape of the fork on the adventure version that is also interesting have you ridden OBA before no I’ve never ridden myself I think why the forks are different I think only This is why you can simply add a bit more weight here and the whole thing is built a bit stiffer, yes, that’s right, you also have more bolt-ons at the front, which is also really exciting, and there are two different rim heights on these Oquo, how do you call it Oquo, I would say, yes, it’s Orbea’s own brand, it’s produced in the Basque Country, that’s what it looks like, it definitely looks really cool, very fast and again, what I like is recognizable in the silhouette, cool, I’m looking forward to your video, have fun, thanks, yes, and it gets exciting, one highlight follows the next and we’re now going to the Simplon stand, we’ll meet Jan, the product manager who’s behind the Grid, hi Jan, well, your stand looks really interesting, there’s some new stuff that we’ll take a look at straight away, but a gravel bike that I’ve had my eye on for a long time, or not, God willing, in my sights, yes, the Grid, exactly, the Grid is our all-round carbon gravel bike, on the market since last year, we’re positioning ourselves as a bit of an all-round adventure, you can do anything with it, even be sporty, I think it’s currently the case with gravel It’s currently the trend that things are divided into different categories. Well, I don’t know if that’s the right approach. For us, gravel actually stands for inclusion. Or rather, you want a bike that everyone can have fun on, and not this strict separation like you have in the racing bike sector, for example. We think that depending on how you put the components together, and we at Simp are also known for the fact that you can customize your bike somehow, because you can build the bike exactly how you like it. Cool, yes, and the keyword inclusion: how much does the fun with the Rival cost? With the Rival, we start at 4499, it starts at 3499 for the M model, exactly. We have some cool features included, a storage box in the down tube. You also get a multi-tool in the storage box as standard. You can put a CO2 cartridge in there. There’s a holder for an Airtch. There’s also a pocket in the down tube, so you’re basically prepared for any breakdown. Yes, great. We already know about storage boxes. Ra, we’ve actually seen a few, but nothing with the Airteag placeholder, that’s clever, that’s really nice, here in the model as we have it now, the optional lighting system is even installed with it, so that you have a Dunamo and the front and rear lights in a cool clamp designed by us, simply that you have a cool integrated rear light and perhaps also interesting for bikepacking, so that you always have light with you, I’m really enthusiastic about the TQ motor, it’s really cool, the HPR40 is installed here too, or no, we didn’t install the HPR40, okay but also a great motor we deliberately decided against the HP40 here also the topic of a bit of inclusion broader target group HPR60 ah exciting so the more powerful of the mountain bikers yes exactly but we deliberately throttled its power also to increase the range because of course when you have more power you need more power but of course we wanted to maintain the range because we are relying on the 290 watt hour battery which is also usually combined with the 40 motor yes because our goal with the bike was actually we wanted to make a sporty e-gravel bike which still offers you the necessary reserves or um it is just intended that you don’t always have to ride the bike with support but when you need it and especially when it gets steeper you still have the powerful motor which with the 60 Newton meters will maybe get you up the last incline yes and of course the 290 watt hour battery deliberately because the second big goal was to create a bike which is as close as possible to a biobike in terms of price I think It’s actually quite competitive on the market . We’re starting with the GRX 600, which is a classic offering. But for 59.49 you can also get the new Rival 13-speed electric and then also directly connected to the main battery , so you don’t have to charge any more batteries. Anyone who has been on the road a lot will know that charging batteries is always an issue, even with racing bikes, and we deliberately decided against it. Brilliant and with a dropper post, it’s a really nice all-rounder bike and if it comes with a similar geometry to the one over there, the geometry is almost identical, so the stack to reach is relatively upright and comfortable. I mean, if you want it to be sporty, you just leave out the spacers under the handlebars, then it usually looks even cooler. We have a big difference with this bike. We’ve already gone to 45 mm tires in the series, but the bike can also take up to 50 mm tires. And what I always find really exciting is that the bikes are actually getting a lot lighter now. The bike here weighs in with the top spec. 12.7 kg and that is a lot lighter for an e-gravel bike than the gravel bikes that have been around in recent years with e-support let’s see what else we can find and who have we met the protagonists from Wienerverkehr Eva and Sebastian good morning how are you good morning hello yes we’re doing great and now we’re standing here at the Avinox stand the motor that we already tested in the AMFLOW and as we know AmFlow was actually a mountain bike which was mainly supposed to show what the motor can do a year later we’re at the same stand and Avinox has managed to convince seven manufacturers to build bikes that now have the system in them including here in the Rotwild there we can see for example a solution where the battery can be removed from the side so unlike the other bikes six of the seven bikes are full suspension bikes which also differ significantly in their respective seat angles so that actually makes a wide selection of different Avinox bikes possible we have cool brands like Forbidden we have Unno we even have Megamo and but also yes besides Commencal also Velo Deville which has presented a very interesting aluminum bike which is more intended for urban use. Now we’ll see if the Avinox system with 1000 watts and I think 100 Newton meters, which is one of the most powerful motor systems on the market, would also be suitable as a city bike. Here we have fourth gear and I’ll just see how quickly I can get to 25 km/h if I pedal hard and go. OK, 25, crazy, that was pretty fast I’d say. Above all, it feels even faster than with a Fuli, for example, because all the power you put into your bike doesn’t sink into the shock absorber or anything like that, but is converted into propulsion in this hard aluminum frame straight away . Crazy, I couldn’t have imagined that we would have the Avinox System also in the city bike but Velo de Will makes it possible and the bike here with this equipment even costs 3999 € right and should also be the cheapest Rab with an Avinox motor at the moment and a brand that is really more present than almost any other at the moment is Factor you did a good job there Markus we have three really nice bikes here the Ostro Gravel yes the Ostro and the Monster exactly so you can see you have three different directions directions that you probably follow here the colors also look special do we have anything that we want to highlight well of course what is in the middle here um the um Ostro that is a limited edition limited edition means Factor brings out three or four models a year that are only available to order over a special period because they say it is supposed to be limited the dealers have the chance to strike um and then there is an order window for over a month and as you can see they have brought out another really cool color where you know okay there are 20 of them in Germany there are so so It’s strictly limited, yes, exactly. So if we were to pre-order 300, of course, but we’re checking which dealer wants it. Will it be successful or not? And then you’ll have something really special. That’s really nice. Where does Factor actually come from ? It’s an English company, I think. Factor has been around for a very long time. They’ve also produced high-end products for other brands. Then at some point they said: “Hey, let’s start our own brand because we know how it’s done. We know how it works.” And then they basically got started. The company was founded in England. They have their own production facility. They’re now working on getting a paint shop because they also have Prisma Studio. You can basically design your own bike, wait 90 to 120 days, and then you really have a part the way you want it. And then, for example, in the Monster range, is there a direction that then moves towards the cheaper side, or does the geometry simply change? Choice of color and I don’t know the seating position , well the goal of the Monster is a lot of people say it was Factor, I think the style is cool, I like it but my wallet doesn’t allow it or I just don’t want it, I don’t want to spend that much money on a bike and that’s why Fektor is now moving from the high-end range further down and saying hey we’re making someone who likes racing, who likes training on the bike, but who has a bike that you can do everything with, that means it’s not quite as aerodynamic as an Ostro, you have gimmicks like a trunk lid here, yeah, the geometry isn’t quite as aggressive, you can get it but if you slam it at the front you can of course also set it up to be super sporty, we have something called slamming, slamming means you go right to the bottom, ah yeah, cool that’s a cool word that comes straight into the vocabulary the further you go down the further you go forward, so in the racing area it’s all about aerodynamics, you have to like the position and be able to ride, right because if you measure yourself and go to the aerodynamics then it’s simply about keeping your head out of the wind you have to keep it down and you can set it up more relaxed depending on what you’re doing with the bike cool and you can always tell from the size of the stand how well the company is doing or how serious they are about presenting their innovations and TQ also has a huge stand it seems to be getting bigger every year and the engine range has also become significantly larger two new engines were presented by TQ today we’ve already made a video about the Canyon Endur with the TQ HPR40 and that’s also on this gravel bike and we’ll also see the version that’s a bit more powerful but first to Daniel Daniel good morning how are you hi hello good good nice to have you here yeah great that we’re here your stand seems to get bigger every year and now you’ve presented two motors at the same time how does that work yes we ask ourselves that sometimes too but we had to fill the stand somehow and then we thought what do you do why not easy so you have the TQ HPR40 and the HP60 exactly what’s the difference the HP60 is basically the successor to the HP50 that’s the HR50 with an upgrade in torque and power and a few other fine tunings that we can still come up with and the HR40 is a completely new motor that we developed from scratch completely specifically for road and gravel bikes what does a road or gravel bike motor have to do differently than a mountain bike motor or maybe a commuting motor well the HR50 has already landed in some gravel bikes and road bikes and we noticed that the market was still a bit the feedback was yes it’s really cool but a bit lighter would be great I don’t actually need that much power and with the HR40 we really wanted to take it to the extreme we really thought about how do we get the weight as low as possible how do we get the resistance as low as possible take the integration to the extreme the noise really is a whole lot quieter than the HR50 simply everything that you need for a road bike or a gravel bike consistently implemented how are things now with your launch partners you have Canyon here you have BMC you have Ridley on the other hand there are also many other well-known manufacturers it’s already a huge portfolio that you have built up here are there more to come there are more to come yes there are still many existing customers who have been using the HR50 so far and are now also very interested in the HPR40 and HPR60 they are gradually joining in of course I think it’s a good sign for us that we are gaining customers and not losing them and yes, it’s different with many others right well if you look a bit unfortunately yes but I think those are also partly the customers who come to us I want to Not complaining, but no, we put a lot of effort into maintaining long-term partnerships. With the HPR40, we’ve now launched a completely new product that appeals to a completely new category of brands. We were able to convince Ridley, for example . We’re very proud of our customers and we attach a lot of importance to maintaining close partnerships. It’s definitely a really cool bike. If we look over at the mountain bikes, the HPR60, the Propain caught my eye from a distance. It’s a bike that makes my heart beat a little faster. You can’t see that an e-mountain bike has a thick down tube and a lot of power under the hood. How much power is slumbering under the hood? The new HR60 has 350 watts, which is another 50 watts more than the HPR50 and a full 60 Newton meters, as the name suggests. There’s also an upgrade of 20%. noticeably more power, the 580 watt-hour battery also fits in the down tube and that is the perfect combination for really long rides and lots of altitude. I was just trying to decipher the freewheel thing in the rear wheel while you were talking about it. What is that? That is a little teaser. We are working very closely and very well with Shimano and are now in the final stages of the freewheel topic. We are also testing it very intensively and will be bringing it to market soon. We also have freewheel integration with Shimano. This means that our motor and the gearshift at the back are connected and communicate and you can basically change gears even on hills without pedaling. That is really cool. It will definitely work automatically at some point if you can basically switch the pre-stage to automatic. That is also What we’re looking at right now is freeshift, which is a huge advantage, especially in the performance area. Sometimes there are sections where you have to ride standing up, where you can’t sit and pedal , but you still want to change gears, and that’s now really easy with freeshift. Yes, and Riese and Müller also has an absolutely huge exhibition stand, in keeping with the name, but what I find pretty impressive is a very, very small bike from Riese and Müller, the Carry 2 in the city version. Among other things, it has this box that you can simply fold out and then you have plenty of space for your shopping, but also for dogs. There’s a practical zip that you can simply open to the side and then your dog can jump in and out. I think it’s pretty cute. The bike has off-road tires, which means you can really rip it over hill and dale. The big update is n’t just the coral color, but above all it has the new Bosch PX motor, which has undergone a performance update compared to the CX, if I’ve understood correctly, which instead of 85 newm of torque 90 newm of torque can be called up, which is of course always good. More power in the city also means less power that you have to put into a wheel. Yes, exciting bike. I would be happy to try it out. What do you think of mini cargo bikes? I think they are really cute and I can imagine that they ride really well with the relatively short wheelbase compared to the huge long johns. We’ll try it out sometime. The weather is great now, 32°C. You can really enjoy your vacation in Frankfurt. Dream bikes behind you and the new GRX 12-speed here on the Orbea Terra. I don’t think it’s the race version, but the adventure version that the GCN moderator presented to us this morning with the storage box. But what will be really interesting here is to test it out for yourself. How will the 12-speed gearshift work? I’m particularly interested in the gearshift speed. Yes, that is really interesting. It’s pretty cool, how quickly you can shift through the gears, especially at slow speeds, which is the most annoying when the chain takes a long time to move over the cassette, for example when stopping or When you start moving again it’s really, really fast, much faster than now, for example with the bike I have now with the 2 x 12. I’m also thinking about whether it might not be cooler to convert from a GX to a einm1. Hardly any topic is discussed as passionately as the sit bone distance at SQLAB and Ulli is the absolute expert in that. Ulli, I ask you every year what kind of saddle I should get. You even adjusted my saddle correctly at the Red Race recently, thanks for that, and then I was able to get through it. But now you have a new racing bike saddle. Many things at once. Hello, first of all, hello , how was your first day at the trade fair? Almost over. Yes, it was really cool. A lot more people there than expected. Everyone was panicking and the trade fair stand here was full the whole time. Well, I think it’s really remarkable that you’re still having the same, the same big stand as in previous years. You seem to be doing well and you also have a new logo. Things are really going well here, not just well, but well. What’s new here? your hand we have a new 612R so a new performance racing bike saddle yes it is basically a further development of our old 612R it has a similar shape a bit sportier a bit more aggressive cut we will only bring it out with carbon rails in four widths and we have something completely new and innovative we always measure the sit bones and then the ideal seat width and saddle width but we have now thought we will change the dip again yes and in connection with the saddle width so the wider the saddle is the wider the dip is also a bit so the saddle will be even wider much more individual how do I know my dip um if you measure your sit bone width which is now for example 12 cm for you you know I can see that with my Brandomplex is good or bad um that is completely individual and has no rating okay thanks um and then we add another 1 cm for the sitting position that means you would ride a 13 cm cullap saddle which just happens to be exactly this width and so we basically have now the bone is in this and this position and at the same time enough contact surface to position the bone stably ah yes and at the same time to create the greatest possible relief and this dip also ensures that less material is used then it will probably be a bit lighter or in principle yes because nothing is ever lighter than a hole so but hole saddles are in principle really difficult there are lots of hole saddles you don’t like so Escalap has no holes because there is a reason why we don’t build a hole but a dip for example very very high pressure peaks on the edges of the saddle the Punched paper, um, that’s why we build the dip, to avoid these pressure peaks and simply the dip that is completely sufficient to relieve nerves, exactly and of course, if you think about it on the rim, you sit in a really sporty way, the hips are rotated really far forward, but we need a good hold to simply put the best power onto the pedal and at the same time we can then provide the greatest relief by bringing the hips even further forward to generate an even better, more aerodynamic sitting position on the rim and here is a real gem from RS Development, that’s Rolf Singelberger, the person behind it, a Swiss developer who used to work at BMC and is now also there as a consultant, Rolf, do you want to say something about your advice in front of the camera, you’ve probably already told us everything, no, I’m just starting, it would be great if you could say a couple of days because it’s crazy, it’s the craziest bike that we’ve just seen at the trade fair, okay, everything, oh, everything is made in Germany, you have to say, developed in Switzerland and manufactured in Germany, it’s so much cheaper in Germany than in the Switzerland or what I think is still a bit cheaper in Germany, yes and cable ducts, they are wound, yes, so they are machine- made, reproducible, with inner cores, 3D printed , yes, the whole thing is glued, so here it’s actually about, we’re drawing the technology from the Rambau, we’re showing a very specific fork, you can’t see much from the outside, but I can tell you more about the inner workings, it’s called a tuned mass damper, yes, that means, that’s the technology, it’s not ours, the technology is, is, yes, it’s available on the market, that means it used to be used in Formula 1, today it’s used in GP, yes, it’s now used in downhill in our, in our industry, yes, and has it always been hidden in Formula 1, or no, no, no, so yes, Formula, GP, GP motorcycles have it on the back like this, you can see it straight away, downhill bikes have it on the double crown fork, on the side or in the head tube, yes, but the key point here is, is, highest efficiency To have it, you need to mount the thing where it receives the impact, yes, and you can see how the mass damper moves, yes, and it absorbs the vibrations and eliminates them, yes, does it eliminate them completely or do you just slow them down, yes, so simple, yes, in the best case, completely, yes, but it’s a simple mechanical component, no no, no rubbing, no wear, no noise, no electronics, so simple and also closed, so no dirt gets in, yes , yes, closed, yes, you could make it even more subtle if you put a third cartridge on top or a third actually the longer the better yes that’s clear yes yes then all the best with that yes good show bye thanks for explaining yes it’s also cool what’s also really interesting is to look behind the scenes and see how brands are actually distributed who is behind the distribution and here we are at the Components stand and there’s a brand new brand which alongside the classics like Factor is now also represented by PC namely Blackhe and the owner of Blackhe Zag is standing next to me now zag how are you hello de and what plan with spotting products like people understand brand works better average cycling enthusiast while brands are trying to sell you sedan Yeah f1 car we make bikes that are they work better for 90% of the cycling enthusiasts out there this is the road titanium we have three models road allroad gravel and we make them in titanium and aluminum the idea is that the titanium and the aluminum they’re the exact same design geometry uh and features so just different price points the titanium is uh really beautiful and clean and simple personally I like to make a design better by removing things versus by adding things so what you’ll notice is that it overall has a pretty modern aesthetic similar to a carbon design but it’s the aluminum tubing and industrial application so we still show the welds around the the top tube it’s hard to see but it actually ovalizes at the front so it has a really nice uh really nice symmetry around but the I think the details are what’s important a lot of people can look at art and they say that it’s beautiful but they don’t really know why yeah and it’s the artist who can tell you “Oh well it’s the colors it’s the proportions it’s the method.” And that’s what I think is that stands out about our bikes, it’s all of the kind of individual gaps that are equal distances, it’s the tube shaping and it’s the overall proportion that really makes the bike stand out as beautiful, so in total, we will see all six models in the online shop, also in dealers like Frankfurt , no, but you can find the latest dealer list on blackheartbikecode.com. Thanks so much for the introduction, yeah, thanks so much, we do have an event on Wednesday night, so not this Wednesday. And at the Smith stand, we discovered three funny things. Firstly, new colours, for example, designs from the Archive collection that have been slumbering in their archives are being revived, and then there’s a fresh, modern, 80s look on the glasses, or these colourful sunglasses that are tinted in such a way that the tint isn’t on the lenses but has been injected between the lenses, and what I’m wearing right now is n’t really just racing glasses, but Super light glasses for a lifestyle. I don’t even notice that I’m wearing them. Not only do they look incredibly fresh, but they also provide good protection for my eyes, not just from sunlight but also from stones. So now I’m in luck. I’ve also picked up a bike computer from Vahu, which I’ll also report on in the coming videos. Eurobike is over for us. Now it’s time to edit. I found it much more interesting today than last year. We stumbled across some innovative and exciting things that I hadn’t even considered. It’s good that the trade fair is still there. It’s far from gone. And I hope that even though the really big names were sorely missed this year, like Cannondale, Specialized, Trek and SRAM, who are no longer exhibiting, yes, this trade fair is still important. Not only because we meet other faces in the industry there and can exchange ideas, not just talk business-wise but also meet people. Today was a lot of fun again. It was a good time, a very exhausting time. What did you like best? Please let me know. in Comments know and are these long videos actually more useful to you than short, compact videos because it’s much less work we might do that next year yes, many thanks to Holger for filming this blockbuster and if you want we’ll see each other in one of the next videos and yes now we’re off to cross the Alps I’m up for it see you then ciao

Also, rundum gelungenes Video, tolle fesselnde Unterhaltung… Perfektion pur.
Danke für Deine/Eure Arbeit. Freuen uns auf den Alpencross. 👍💪🤘👌
