We’ve just published a brand new cycling guide on our blog – can I share it with you? 🙂 It’s all about the queen of German cycling routes – the Elbe Cycle Route, Elberadweg!

You're welcome to check it out – and if you don't feel like diving into the full article, here are a few great cycling moments from the Elbe in photos 🙂

During a warm May weekend, we explored one of its most popular sections, riding from Dresden through Meissen, Torgau, Wittenberg, and Dessau-Roßlau, finishing in Magdeburg. Since the Elbe Cycle Route is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, it was also a great chance to take a closer look at how cycling tourism is organized along the river.

One thing that surprised us was how often the route runs on surfaces that would probably not be accepted on newer routes – including cobblestones! They’re decent ones – small, well laid, and totally rideable – but still cobbles. And when those ended, we were often pedaling on concrete pavers, especially along the flood embankments. That’s just part of the charm of this 30-year-old queen – and with routes her age, we tend to be more forgiving. 😉

What really makes Elberadweg so popular, though, is how much there is to see along the way. Dresden alone can easily fill three days. Wittenberg deserves at least a few hours to appreciate its incredible heritage. And then there’s lovely Meissen, the beautiful Dessau-Wörlitz gardens, Torgau, Magdeburg, and many smaller towns in between.

I truly recommend the ride – though I bet many of you have already done it. Did you love it as much as we did? 🙂
