I’ve been CYCLING ON DARTMOOR in DEVON! In PART 1 of this 25-mile cycle ride from LUSTLEIGH TO WIDECOMBE and back in a loop via MANATON, I cycle from Lustleigh along the off-road Wray Valley Trail railway path that follows the route of the old Newton Abbot to Moretonhampstead railway line which went via Bovey Tracey and Lustleigh.
See PART TWO where I cycle from Wray Valley Trail (the former Newton Abbot – Bovey Tracey – Moretonhampstead railway line) up onto Dartmoor, then down to Widecombe: https://youtu.be/KPW9HJ-mDcM?si=oYoe0Oj50yeIpew0
See PART THREE where I cycle from Widecombe to Manaton, Trendlebere Down and back to Lustleigh: https://youtu.be/ZWb3cnoeo4A?si=V5RD2ovxrmWioO64

[Music] [Music] good morning everyone I am actually in what must be the prettiest Village in the whole of the country picture postcard Village chocolate box the works this is lle in um dartmore just off the hills of dartmore in Devon and it’s such a lovely Village but first of all I’m going to be cycling along the Old Railway line that is now a cycle path from lley to Morton hampster said one of Dr beijing’s cups of course right let’s go it’s the pub lovely Old Pub oh this Village is gorgeous but straight away we have a climb it’s not good to have a climb right at the beginning of a the rise but LLY isn’t exactly flat and I haven’t been out on my bike since I was at malum last [Music] [Music] week hey doesn’t matter if I end up walking bits of this ride and I’m going to take it easy [Music] on the only other dark Mall bike ride video I’ve done I attempt is to cycle up there it’s virtually vertical right we are heading down to the Old Railway the railway actually goes from Buy Tracy to Morton Hamstead but not all of it is open and last time I videoed anything in dartmore it w it wasn’t open at all not apart from the bit from um Bobby Tracy to par The National Trust [Music] Center the railway line there a sort of gentle incline up to mton Hampstead I’ve only ever done it that way I’ve never done it the reverse it’s just down here somewhere done it a few times over the last year or so but have not ever video it that’s the sales rway Bridge this is where we turn [Music] off the surface is mixed there’s a lot of this gravel [Music] [Music] it’s hard to believe but believe it or not I actually traveled on the old line when it was a little steam engine a little tank with about one coach used to chug up and down the Valley now I wasn’t aware that I was on that train but it was a summer before I was born and my mom was pregnant so in a way I have been on it my dad always said he traveled on the foot plate he got permission and he thought it was fantastic and poor old mama had to sit in the coach 6 months pregnant with [Applause] [Music] me so this is my first day on dmore this time I traveled up from Yorkshire yesterday took 7 hours Road works everywhere the weather is going to been mixed so I brought my walking boots I’ve even brought my recorder and some music a music stand do you believe [Music] [Applause] so we’re heading up to Morton hamstad and then we’ll be following cycle track up to the main D Mall Road and there’s a really tough climb which I may or may not be able to do in one I have done it in one but it’s tough P the miniature pony Center I call it the coat the miniature pony to the front style and then at the top of all the climbs we’ll be heading towards whin along a beautiful Lane so that’s the first section of the ride [Music] as I said this is a a gradual incline pretty much all the way that’s to mton htad [Music] h [Music] I’m staying in the beautiful cotage just over there gorgeous views down this beautiful Valley and this is the first time I’ve managed to get away this year apart from when I went to abedine and did the longest single train journey in the UK to penans in March haven’t been able to get away because of dealing with my mom and the weather too all [Music] hello [Music] than sh [Music] [Music] see [Music] sh [Music] [Music] St [Music] sh [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] oh that tacx surface don’t get too excited it doesn’t last long before we’re back on the gravel [Music] [Music] and we’re still climbing that poor little Tank Engine must have must have produced an awful lot of steam coming up here [Music] [Music] you can still see the Old Railway Station at Bubby Tracy the main road goes past past it along what would have been the H’s Railway line but you can go around the other side and see the old entrance to the station which we did last year [Music] [Music] back on the gravel up here [Music] can still see the old lley station too which is now a [Music] house more time back [Music] [Music] [Music] as a family we have a long Association for this part of the world um used to come up here with with my boyfriend before my husband used to come for regular holidays every year really to a little farm with Cottages which we cycle past before too long and then my husband and I came here when we just met and we came here for a honeymoon and then November believe it or not who does that November on Dore on the honeymoon we do did and then came here when I was pregnant with my son came here when he was a baby toddler and right up to when he was a teenager before we decided to explore different areas [Music] he walks just about every foot path on darkart Mall here it joins the road kind of no it joins the road more closer further on [Music] I came back here not not staying at the farm but staying at where I’m staying at the moment me and my son last year he’s he was 29 then to explore all the old familiar walks foot paths nostalgia [Music] I think this is where we join the road or we cross it they’ve reinstated a couple of bridges think they cross it here [Applause] [Music] no it must be later on when we cross the roads [Music] [Music] this is where we join the Raad well we don’t join it we we go off again as soon as we’ve joined it oh [Music] oh [Music] [Music] sh [Music] [Music] I brought an external hard drive with me from the one that was plugged into my main compeer at home so I could upload all the rides via my laptop which doesn’t have enough um capacity to store loads of videos but it seems to Broken the hard drive that is it was rattling around something is rattling in it and it wasn’t working so don’t know what happened to it in [Music] transit so I ordered a new one off Amazon which is quite good now you can pick it up locally here in the post office in lle where I’m parked I can pick it up from there later today so that’s good news but the bad news is and then found another 2 terabyte hard drive I’ve been looking for all week thought I’d lost and i’ actually packed it in in one of my bags [Music] so I will have six terabytes now to store stuff [Music] on right this is crossing the road they built this little bridge on top of the [Music] old where the old bridge was oh hello [Music] hello some sort of nature reserve here communal something or other commun toy Woodlands that’s it [Music] [Music] oh [Music] [Music] [Music] h [Music] [Music] [Music] we’re nearly at that budley farm where we used to stay when we first stayed there can you believe it cost us £85 for the [Music] week a week in September there’s a shooting range there that they [Music] own my husband’s Uncle used to come here too it’s just up there [Applause] we crossed the road again up here on another of the old well not the old bridge but where the old bridge was on the old piers H [Music] there this Tru doesn’t go to the old Morton hampster station cuz that’s now privately owned H business it goes around the back and it comes out just short of Morton hamstad [Music] I think this is the old H [Music] business the line used to end here of course and then it would shant off back down the valley that looks like Old Railway buildings doesn’t it an Old Railway building right bit a climb up here now little bit [Music] mudy careful there’s nothing coming down [Music] so this is a new track it’s not the old rollway line anymore cuz that would have ended there e [Music] [Music] [Music] we’re coming up behind Morton hamsters which the locals call Morton it’s easier to say tomorrow it’s going to rain apparently really rain but hopefully the only day there might be a few showers on Monday but apart from that the weather outlook looks pretty much okay I know lucky or what but I mustn’t speak too soon these things change overnight so tomorrow I might do a rainy walk in the woods from Castle dve go along the Tain to fingle Bridge and back depends how rainy it is I’ve got a National Trust ticket so I can always take refuge in Castle Drogo [Music] itself I brought a new waterproof housing for the GoPro but I need to test out whether the microphone works with it right this is where we come to the end of the track we go right and we should meet a lane going left at the top of a little climb this is the climb which is the cycle route it’s a cycle route to chagford but we’re not going to chagford [Music] [Music] he
