So its been a long time dream since the first time i went dh in highschool (maybe 15yr).
During the winter i bought a used giant glory 27.5 for $1500 canadian pesos. Did some work to it and it rode ok to the store.
Finally comes the first day of the year to go downhill, the front brake is now seized so i stole the brakes off my 1yr old trail bike. During the day my chain kept getting jammed in the cranks, then the derailleur exploded… remove the chain and keep going! Next run the derailleur is hanging by the cable, smacking off my spokes… remove that for a few more runs to finish the day, also with the front fork seals leaking beyond my give a shit because im now addicted to dh (and broke)
I gave it some hims and haws, ultimately bit the bullet and ordered all the sram gx dh stuff, as it was the cheapest option to replace everything and it comes on new 10k dh bikes so it must be good! (i would have rathered shimano saint though).
After waiting what felt like forever for parts to arrive and fiddling with it whatever time i had avaliable, waiting for more tools… Its finally ready again!!!!
If you ever have the chance to take a true downhill bike, downhill, jump on it!!! The bike alone gave me the confidence to fly over things and no brain very technical double black diamonds, with no chain… runs id shamelessly walk down with my trail bike (as i have last year)
Im starting a new job where ill have one more day off during the week, just to make sure i can go dh once a week lololol
