Embracing the “spontaneity” of last-minute parkrun tourism, Iona embarked on an adventure without even knowing the destination awaiting her as she bid goodnight on Friday.

But in the morning it was decided, Battlestead Croft parkrun near Buton on Trent was our destination in the grounds of Burton Rugby Football Club. A new parkrun, this was just the 11th running of the event and I’d been warned that it could be a muddy one.

Thankfully, the weather had been kind in the preceding week, leaving the ground firm underfoot. While the threat of mud was minimal, a brisk wind sweeping across the open fields provided an invigoratingly chilly start to our run. A pancake flat course of 3 laps around the perimeter of the Rugby fields with a short excursion to run alongside the canal.

Run complete, you only have to work about 5 steps to the hatch where breakfast is served, where Iona experimented with just how many items you can squeeze into a batch (bread roll for non-Coventrians).

Homeward-bound, we made a pit stop at Heart of the Country, a charming craft centre with a delightful fairy wood to explore. Amidst selecting Mother’s Day presents and cards, we meandered through the enchanting woods, soaking in the tranquillity before resuming our journey homeward, in time to prepare for our running club’s awards night where Iona had dancing planned!

About Ian, Iona and Family
===============================
Each week on this channel Ian (Dad) and Iona share our little adventure experiences, often joined by Ewan (Iona’s older brother) and Ruth (Mum) too.

Our weekends often start with parkrun. Iona is on a non-repeat parkrun tourism streak having now visited over 100 different places since she started parkrunning. But we don’t just do parkun and dash home, we love exploring the area and often use bikes and trains for our travels to keep our carbon footprint low and because it adds to the adventure too. When school holidays arrive, longer adventures are possible with Ewan and Iona both being keen cycle tourists and mountain climbers!

So if you like heading outdoors and your idea of a perfect weekend includes parkrun, climbing a mountain or exploring new places on two wheels then we would love to have you join us on our adventures.

We’d love it if you subscribed so you can follow our journey and hopefully be inspired to get out the door and have your own little adventures. Do like and leave comments on our videos too on questions you might have or ideas for places to explore or adventures to go on.

good morning we’re at a rugby club but not to do rugby what are we here for a park room it’s a fairly new parkrun can you remember where we are cuz I’ve gone completely BL yeah a random park run that’s on the outskirts of Bingham on the well very it’s more on the outskirts of Burton Trent here’s a quick check on the phone the wonderful 5K app to find out where we are battle dead craft it’s quite bad when you can’t even remember what the park run is we did make a rather last minute decision you didn’t even know what parkr we were doing when you went to bed last night I had to get up at 7 o’ and see what I was doing welcome to batt CR park run event number 11 can we give a warm welcome to everyone joining us apart from for the first time and any tourists think you got quite a lot of tourists morning 3 2 one go thank you R show we are off on ble stick CR Park we were warned when we posted that we were coming here on the park group that it might be rather muddy Under Foot but apparently it’s nowhere near as bad as it was last week it’s claggy but we’re certainly not wading in mud it’s a misty musty morning this morning for park run and the wind is definitely chilly well we’ve done the laugh of the ropy field area and then we cross over a de bridge and over into another little field at the side of that by the canal now we got a lovely bit of very short section by the canal the geese are sing and some lovely Canal boats more PR to that you could come more here pop over the way do the park run and then pop back to your boat for breakfast we’re just coming up to towards the end of our first lap and now we do so the fastest runner is coming through on their fast mate well that’s a mile ticked off just before we get to the end of our first lap which means I only wants a sweet what you got for warm off you go then there is just one little section of T mark on this park run which is as you cross the entrance to the car park which comes with another little warning if you do come and do this park run and want to make a quick getaway make sure you don’t park in the inner car park cuz you have to wait until Park on finish before you can leave and if you’re wearing spikes cuz it’s the rest of the run is a muddy field run you might want to think again cuz you have got to run across that little bit of tarmac normally as you’re running along here you have some lovely views across the fields this morning it’s a bit Misty so the views probably aren’t quite as extensive as they should [Music] be there are some nice big puddles out on the course this morning but you don’t have to go through them there’s plenty of dry track to make your way around them make waterproof socks are definitely not needed this morning and I decided to keep my feet completely warm and dried by avoiding the pedals this little Trail through here four-wheel drive track apparently you do have to watch out if there are any early morning fishermen out to start their fishing day or maybe finishing a night’s fishing they could be coming along here it’s pretty rare but it’s is that you have to watch out [Music] for [Music] what are you wearing this morning aanna my bedes my bades these ones are my bades cuz I am part of these cool and you’re wearing your 100 one are you yeah proud 100 completer yeah I need my 250 one soon soon dud couple of years worth yet not quite if I did it every week I probably would get this over two years 50 a year just over yeah and you’ve got that’s 100 and you’re on 122 so far and so you need 130 you’re not even quite halfway yet very close two more to do and you’ll be halfway after today two more after today oh yeah cuz I think this is my 123rd yeah well done right let’s go running wait one two three yeah you go these ones the Rugby Club that we’re running at has actually been around since 1870 though these buildings have definitely not been around here that long I think this whole area here is in new estate and so on in fact my Saab didn’t even think I was driving on a road as I arrived here this morning but as well as some very nice facilities here what I do love is the Twisted trees by the side of the trail just up here some lovely shapes by the stream of the trees just here in fact the one’s all black inside almost looks like it’s been struck by lightning or something like that in the process of being struck down every now something is going on my en is trying to tell me the reason she’s not going too fast this morning is because she needs to save energy in her legs we’ve got to running club Awards night tonight and I is down for some boogie in she says dance time later we shall see but we’re almost at the Finish now finish line is in sight has to be said this is a lovely Flat Park one and certainly in the Summer where it’s nice and dry underfoot it should be a nice fast course to enjoy it Fierce time into the Finish now for Iona she’s going for it this time we turn left rather than carrying on around in front of the lap and the Finish Line with the cafe will be in sight cheers thank you how’s that park run good nice and flat yeah not too muddy no nice and dry still yeah you need to go get coat that you left over the other side of the park one stay there yeah I knew that is that why have I got to go get it I don’t right so we’re going to get scan first Sean you have sneaked inside the BBY Hut for our breakfast haven’t we owner the breakfast batches are actually served outside to hatch but it was a bit chilly and windy out there wasn’t it so we sneaked inside how’s your batch what did you do with it first of all you went for sausage then you spotted there was well you spotted yeah then we spotted that there was an um Brown hash brown that’s right um so we added that then we saw there was an an egg so we added the egg then we saw that there was mushrooms so we added the mushroom which failed so they went all the over of over the place and then we put it in one thing and it looks and then I added ketchup because everyone needs ketchup and then it looks very crambled but you it tastes good yeah enjoy what do we reckon to the breakfast end rating five definite five had to five batches [Music] it well on our journey home from Park we’ve come to explore the heart of the Country Craft Center and explor some the little gift shops here in s s some really nice things haven’t we Iona yeah for Mommy tomorrow why what’s special tomorrow Mother’s Day do we need to get sleep nice for mommy do we okay should we keep Rising yeah can we take a photo please at Heart of the country they’ve also got a Fairy Woods and pigs we are wondering whether the pigs fly or or or quite what the combination of pigs and fairies might be like but we’re having a little explore of the Fairy [Music] Woods [Music] we have the Go Mobile today you are you that is truer than true there is no one alive who is youer than you Dr [Music] Zeus [Music] you’re going to Mush it mush it mush it well we’ve had a nice little Adventure on the way back from Park hav’t we exploring the Fairy Woods and the Craft Center your hand stinging though from where you accidentally poured some hot water out it after breakfast wasn’t it or is it before breakfast but really hurts really hurts but what do you think to this little Woodland I like it and you found a lovely little dead hide in there Piggies and we seen the pigs as well we piggies no flying Piggies unless they do it during the night during the night the pigs fly piggy flying I going to go over you those pigs it has to be said look rather fat for flying we have some dancing still to do tonight don’t we Dancy Dancy Dancy you’re going to Boogie on Dan with the Massy ladies on the Dance Floor aren’t you and my teddy bear and your teddy bear is coming with you as well or Gerald so we’ll see you on the little Adventure soon [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] bye

  1. Love this event! Trail shoes always worth taking just in case! A stunning event nonetheless! So much more than just "a 5k round the rugby pitches" as you quite clearly show here πŸ™ŒπŸ’ͺ great video as always guys!

  2. What a remarkable young girl. She embraces the madness, goes to Parkrun, has a run and barely complained, if at all. Bless her!!! Wonderful attitude! You must be very proud ❀
