[Music] hey everyone and welcome back to the channel and today I’m going to take a deep dive into the brand new Canyon All-Road bike what’s just come out probably one of the best affordable bikes what has just come out on the market and I thought I’ll talk through it show you what it’s got on it tell you my thoughts on it and at the end I’ll tell you if it’s worth buying and if you are thinking about buying one hopefully I can help i have had a Canyon for 18 months a Canyon Endurance so I’ve done plenty of videos on it so I do know quite a lot about the Canyon now and hopefully I can help you out if you are making that decision about buying one so let’s have a look and see what the bike comes and let’s have a look at the bike itself so the new Canyon all-road bike comes with the Shimano Q’s group set you get a 5034 uh on the front and 1139 cassette on the back which I think is fantastic and gives you the full range where you’ve got a faster gear uh if you are on the road or if you’re going off trail or going up hills you’ve got that 39 at the back to give you that uh top gear easy gear to get you up them climbs so yeah I’m really impressed to see what the cues is like because I’ve only ever seen it on the mountain bikes we’ve not really seen it on the gravel bikes drop bar bikes so this is probably one of the first ones I’ve seen where the Q’s uh drop bar uh group set is on and I’m really looking forward to uh seeing what this is like yeah and obviously the brakes are also Shimano Q’s and uh they’re hydraulic so for the price point getting hydraulic brakes on this sort of bike is absolutely fantastic i’ve always highly recommended trying a bike with hydraulic brakes they’re not as fussy as you think to maintain they last a long time and they’re really easy enough to bleed and uh if you ever need to do that but it’s rarely you have to do if you’re going to be servicing your bike every 12 18 months the bike shops will do that for you anyway and you won’t feel any difference and the quality of the hydraulic brakes you get are so far superior to uh mechanical so I’m really glad that they’ve put the uh hydraulic brakes on this bike so the wheels on the bike are Alex rims now I’ve not heard of these wheels before but when I’ve looked into them they are really good meant to be really good uh wheel or round wheels uh they are uh tubeless ready but the problem is they put Schwabby G1 tires on it which aren’t uh tubeless ready but I suppose if you’re going to go tubeless I’d probably get the bike anyway and just try it tube first see how you feel and then once you get used to the bike and then you when you come around to having to change the tires and get some tubeless tires and set up tubeless i’ve done tubeless uh videos that I set up uh in the past so check them out if you want to any help in setting up tubeless but yeah that’s the only downside I can see so far is that Schwabby G1 uh comp uh CAD guards are not tubeless ready tires but the the wheels are so that’s one good thing because the wheels are probably the most expense so at least you know if you got some tubeless uh tires you can go tubeless both wheels uh through axles uh 12 100 and then on the back 12 uh 142 so yeah that’s just standard through axle and uh yeah absolutely brilliant so the the endurance all all round bike is an aluminum frame uh but I think at the uh the weight it is it’s still quite a light bike and basically because it’s an all-road bike it’s quite good that it’s got mounts for your your racks and uh mounts for fenders or mud guards as we call them in the UK so if you are wanting to put all that on use it as a commuting bike in bad weather and stuff you know that you can put your bags on there and put mud guards on uh yeah the frame looks really fantastic it comes in two colors silver or purple so yeah really good so the frame also is semi uh internal cabling uh bar coming out of the uh top tube and then going to your handlebars other than that it all goes through the uh down tube down to uh your cassette and your uh crank but uh yeah it does look still nice i mean I would prefer all the wires to be in the cockpit but then that’s when you have the problem of when you want to maintain it it does become a pain in the bum if you need to change your uh seals and that in your in your uh handlebars so yeah it is I suppose a compromise you can get but I still think the bike does look really good yeah so the front fork is uh full carbon so that’s really good and what I like about this bike you can get a 740 tire on it maximum so you can get a really good gravel tire on there or an all-road tire but also if you want it to be road you can get a road tire on there yeah the other components are uh standard canyon uh handlebars uh seat post but it does have a Stella Royal seat on it which does look really good and I’ve uh I have tried a Stella Royal seat before and they are really good seats so that’s really good that they’ve put a decent seat on there but this is where after talking about all that and you’re thinking “Wow all that stuff you got on it you think it would be a lot of money.” But to be fair this comes in at £999 or £949 yeah I think that is at a perfect price point especially if you are doing cycle or work and uh what you get for this bike the huge group set the uh carbon fork uh the seat the whole look of the bike and the whole quality of the build just I think that price is absolute a fantastic price for an all-road bike and they’ve Canyon have probably put it there cuz they know it probably be a good market for people to buy i mean if you look on the website at the minute it’s only been out less than a week and the bike’s fully sold out at the minute so you’re going to have to uh if you are thinking about buying one of these bikes you’re probably going to have to get on the waiting list because they are very popular at the minute so after me going through the bike there itself let’s go through some of the pros and cons basically let’s start with the pros first for me is the Shimano Q’s group set i mean it’s an absolute looks an absolute i’ve heard brilliant things about the Shimano Q’s group set like I said before it’s took over the ClariS uh Thiaga and Sora and basically it’s the first time I’ve seen it on a drop bar bike at the minute i’ve seen on the mountain bikes but I’ve not seen on a drop bar until uh Canyon have brought this bike out and we’re probably going to see it a lot more on bikes and what I like about Canyon is they’ve basically put the full Shimano groups on it they haven’t skimped on parts put cheaper uh cassettes on or chains and stuff like that and basically what I like about this cuz it’s an all-road bike is you’ve got a 50 uh high uh crank and obviously 11 on the back so that’s obviously if you are on the road you’re not going to spin out as much you’ve got that higher gear to get yourself up to quite a good speed but you also have that 39 on the back where basically if you do go off road or you do want to climb up some steep climb especially with me in the Lake District basically you have that got that really high gear to get you up there and obviously the lower gear at the 34 at the front to get you around any sort of places you want to go so I’m really impressed that they’ve put this group set on this bike and I think if you are looking for an all- road bike that’s probably the perfect group set you could have so one another pros I like about the bike is that if you are going to go bike packing and stuff this probably could be an ideal bike for it uh you’ve basically got all the uh points the mount points you’ve got the bag mount on the top you’ve got the fender mounts you can get the rack on the back if you want to put uh bigger bags on and yes this would be easily a really good bike if you want to go bike packing so another pro I like I actually like the look of the bike i think the bike looks absolutely stunning uh I do like canyons anyway you know I’m a canyon fan but I think this bike does really look good especially in the silver i’m not so uh the purple doesn’t really do it for me but I think the silver one is absolutely fantastic and I think also in only in the UK and Europe you’re getting the two colors i think in the US you’re only getting the silver but I’d probably go with the silver anyway i think it is a lot nicer so some of the cons on the bike even though Canyon has a fantastic range of sizing starting from 2X small to 2X large basically on the 2X small the smallest handlebar what it comes with is a 400 so if you want looking for a smaller in width uh that’s basically quite a wide angle for a small person to have their arms out and you could be riding like this if you have got a smaller arm length and a smaller person so yeah that is one of the bigger the negatives and a lot of people are saying that online that they could done could have been happier with a smaller handlebar range but yeah it’s not too much problem for me but if you are think if you are a small person you are thinking about getting one that could be something you want to try and have a look at new and see if a 400 would be good for you so another con a con I suppose if you are thinking about wanting a bike where you want it to be on the road quite a lot you might find that with the extra wide tires and it’s probably more set up as a off-road bike when you first get it with the gear ch with the gears being a 501 and up to a 39 uh group set like I said I like that because where I live I’ve got plenty of hills and it’s perfect but if you are on the flat roads you might find that it might not be as fast for you but it’s easy enough you could just put a faster tire on and you probably have no problem with it but like I said I think it’d be perfectly fine if you are wanting to be road gravel or off-road or cycle trails anything like that i think it’s perfect for and I don’t think you find too much of a problem with it being more or less set up more for gravel than road so obviously because it’s an aluminum frame and basically it’s not carbon you’re going to find that it’s not going to be super light i mean the bike comes in at 10.72 kg so yeah it’s not crazy light it’s not crazy heavy i mean I’ve had a bike before uh you probably seen it on the channel a Cannondale gravel bike and that was 10.59 I think it was kilograms i had no problem with that i thought it was still quite light but you might find that this bike if you especially if you’re coming from carbon you might find that this bike might be a little bit heavy but I still think you’ll be totally fine with it if you are looking at buying it as like a first bike all-road bike or a commuting bike yeah and just uh an idea if you are thinking about wanting to make the bike a little bit lighter i mean look at the Icon wheels I’ve just reviewed you could buy them for around 700 pound they’ll probably give you a big weight saving and then you could put like a lighter tire on a road tire if you want a lighter tire and you probably could get it well under the uh 10 kg mark easily enough if you just wanted to spend a little bit more to improve the bike and uh that’s one good thing about buying cheaper bikes like this you can always improve them you can always put better group sets on better tires better seats change the handlebars whatever you want to do obviously you you don’t want to pay that cost initially especially if £949 is your budget but you can do that in the future if you want to do that so me personally I think if you are wanting to get into gravel cycling I think this could be a good start uh bike the gear ratios are really good the tires you can get up to a 40 tire on them and yeah it’ll be a good solid aluminum frame so it give you that stability when you’re going around them grally sort of uh tricky uh corners and yeah I think if you want to start taking up a bit of gravel a bit of off-road I think this bike cuz of the price could be a perfect one for you so just before I finish I want to go through basically the sizings of the bikes one big question I always get asked about my Canyons is because you can’t go and try them on and you’re buying them online is which is the best size for you and on the Canyon website the size guide what you can do is usually bang on but I’ll just put up here the uh dramaties and dimensions of the uh all-road bike and as you can see here I’ll just go over basically you’ve got all the sizes here you’ve got your body height in centimeters for all the uh range you got the seat height so that’s the maximum and minimum seat heights each size will do you’ve got the tube length the top tube you got the head tube you got the head tube angle you got the seat tube angle you got the chain stay size you got the wheelbar size you got your stack you have your reach you have your stand over height you have your bottom bracket offset you have your stack then you have your effective stack and then you have your effective reach now I wouldn’t go too much into that usually what I’d look at I’d look at the seat tube length and the top tube length they’re the two of the biggest things I’d look at and if you are if you already have a bike and basically uh you know you know that’s a perfect size for you I’d highly recommend measuring the top tube and the seat post tube and then going off whatever that is going try and figure out what sizes are on the Canyon website what I’ve just shown you so yeah I thought it was good to show you the sizing cuz that is one of the biggest questions I always get asked about Canyon bikes but yeah like I said this was just the first look at this bike i I love Canyon bikes and uh you know I’ve got the Endurance CF8 and basically if you need any help if you are thinking about buying one of these bikes put it in the question and put it in the comments and basically I will try and help you out and uh yeah thanks for watching and hopefully I’ll see you on the next one thanks for watching
