Alec Creech heard about replacing the boiler at St. Barnabas (the preschool/nursery section) in Gillingham. He decided to ride from St. Barnabas to Kent Fire & Rescue Service at Strood and back to raise funds – £800 was the target. I heard about the ride that was to take place on the 28th of September 2024 and I decided to be a witness.
I got to St. Barnaba at about 8am ahead of Alec and he was surprised to see an unexpected guest waiting to cheer him up. With my Samsung Galaxy A13 and Canon R6 camera, I went ahead to document this event which was a last-minute decision.

[Music] hello Alec yeah yeah can you tell us more about your ride I’m going to be riding Church all the way to the fire station in Street and then back because they want money for the nursery for their heating so making money for that how much have you contributed so far uh about 72 okay so we looking at about how much to support the church about I think it’s about £800 they want okay so you’re looking at 800 and we believe that this ride will support at least an exent in supporting the church um which which part of the church needs support the nursery just around the corner just bit where the Green Gate is there’s a nursery there okay they want the heat into that okay so from here you’ll be riding all the way to stre all the way to stre bar station and then back so how long do you think the ride is going to take from here down to St about an hour and a half an hour and a half and then then you will take some rest at the fire station and then you ride back to the same sport yeah beautiful beautiful okay so um we got a bike here wow this is an awesome bike okay so the ride will start at what time 9:00 we stting 9:00 okay so we have what is the time now 52 oh 52 so I’m starting very soon excellent [Music] he [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] and this is Alec a brother he’s also here to support him and our bike is just down there so how was your experience it was good quicker than what I expected okay how was the traffic was the traffic yeah traffic was fine I got caught twice at traffic lights but apart from that is all right okay you got no no ticket no oh no ticket excellent excellent so we will be starting the ride from here strud far station back to julan so um so what about your experience watching him ride down here to to Street see I I got your l oh you got your l yeah are you here to support him yeah oh beautiful so we’ll be riding back now [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] back from so how was the ride from stre down here busy good okay was there traffic yeah a lot of traffic oh excellent well you enjoy the ride yeah it took you about how many minutes from stre down here oh okay it was great thank you so much for the ride it’s wonderful having you supporting the church in this [Music] the heating is in problems well there isn’t any pardon there isn’t any this is dead oh went not to S it on this year so we’ve got to replace it the winter is here it so we can’t do it now because it preschools in but we have provisionally booked to put it in in half term on the op Break um and we are trusting God the money comes in how much are you it’s 72,000 plus V2 7 and 1 12,000 yes wow [Music] that’s I like that ride was great it was awesome now you may ask what’s the big deal about this well with my left knee I had uh made the accent when I was younger and my left knee completely was damaged and I’ve had a metal plate and bolts and springs put into it to help it so that I can move around and if I don’t exercise or ride or walk or anything it would end up locking and luckily on the wi it didn’t lock oh so you lost what you do I have to just sit there and exercise bring it straighten it and bend it but if I’m on my own I have to do it but if I’m in the house then Ben or actually has to unlock it cuz sometimes it blcks it that bad I can’t even walk I can’t even stand up so yeah I have it so for me ask one more question how much have we to do this so far 100 exactly we it was £92 but we rounded it off as a round figure me Ben and ell ranted it off exactly £100 and I’ve actually go to the minister last Sunday actually handed to her in the church to her in the church last Sunday £100 in an envelope okay and the repairs have started and the repairs have now started last Wednesday well I think they started Monday but when we went up there Wednesday they were putting all the new pip work Wednesday that’s two days ago yeah yeah because she said yeah so they said it takes up to about two weeks to do which is actually right because I know that because I got had on they take cuz they’re not easy putting all the pipes in and Welding them all up and soldering it all and making sure it doesn’t leak and everything else it’s not an easy job wow wow and what you’ve done is very inspiring and I want to say keep it up [Music]
