A short video featuring Andrew Hunniford speaking about what makes the Bicycle Cafe special to London, Ontario. This video was shown at the 41st annual Business Achievement Awards ceremony held on Sept 25, 2024 by the London Chamber of Commerce.
so the London Bicycle Cafe likes to think of
itself as a Southwestern Ontario’s transportation service provider for active Transportation
we focus on very practical tactical things or solutions that people can incorporate into the
lives they’re going to do all of the things a motor vehicle is going to do but in a sustainable
and affordable way that’s beneficial for the user and then the community being a kid in riding
a bicycle can make you feel adult and it can give you a lot of freedom and maturity which
is interesting because then being an adult and riding a bicycle can often bring you back or make
you nostalgic for those feelings that you had in in childhood as somebody that’s always grown
up in London I can tell you that I had a lot more freedom in my youth especially utilizing a
bicycle I was able to Traverse large areas of my entire higher neighborhood fairly unhindered by
larger roads or higher traffic volumes or higher speeds or larger vehicles and that’s something
I think that we can definitely start to work back to war so now approximately only 2% of the
trips taken within the city of London are done by bicycle we’d like to increase that to 5% and
then 10 and then 15 and then 25 because people do want to choose these things they just need to be
helped and encouraged and incentivized to do it we offer a lot of nonprofits and Community groups
and organizations our space our resources in our time um so that they can grow and then continue
to meet encourage new londoners in our shared goal of active transportation and sustainability
my business partner Ander mcclenahan and I have a similar philosophy and he had phrased it as to
you grow where you’re planted I love London it has a lot to offer and I’ve been able to to prosper
within London myself um so I feel I owe a debt to London to continue to encourage this community
and grow it so other people can prosper like I was given the opportunity to hear so that’s why we’ve
chosen this Lane to kind of make a stand and then support that aspect of London and try to make
it a better place to live um for years to come
