I have an REI ADV 2.3 which has a 40t GRX front chainring. I want to try going down to a 38t because I live in the PNW and some of the gravel routes I'm doing have pretty steep climbs.

A couple questions.

  1. How do I know what BCD my current chainring is? I'm not sure whether to get a 104 or 110 Wolf Tooth 38t chainring.

  2. Do I have to remove the cranks to do this, or can I just remove the chainring and slip it off the crank arm?

  3. Are there any specialized tools I need to remove the chainring? It looks like a 5mm hex fits into the bolts on the back.

  4. What is the torque spec on these? I have a wrench that goes up to 12 nm.

Are there any specific guides or videos for swapping 1x GRX chainrings I should follow? Almost all the videos I've found are for 2x setups. Thanks!
