in this video we are going to tell you about some of our favorite places in Versailles the best places to see outside of the palace so keep watching bonjour from the beautiful city of Versailles hi my name is Clara and I’m Lola so we are guides at Boutique Tours we run tours in Paris and Versailles award-winning tours around the region most of the time the people that come to Versailles they only visit the palace and the gardens but in this video would like to show you more of the city of Versailles cafes restaurants shops there’s plenty to do the Versailles is a town of over 85,000 inhabitants so it’s really not just the palace there’s this whole town to go explore cute little streets more monuments also related to the construction of Versailles Palace the Revolution and a whole big beautiful park at the back of the palace to explore as well there’s a great atmosphere here you have a market running every day people do live here they go shopping they go meet with their friends at the cafe so it’s very vibrant very lovely so here’s a map of Versail as you can see here you have the palace in the very middle and there’s two beautiful neighborhoods on the side so you have St louis district which is the old town where the nobility used to live and you have a beautiful cathedral as well lots of shops and restaurants and then you have Notraam area so this is where we are at the moment around the local market so these are our two favorites it’s only about 200 meters away from the palace of Asai absolutely so if you just wanted to explore the town outside of the palace it’s really easy to do so there’s a few train stations also you can arrive from you can arrive from this one here Versailles Chateau uh you can also arrive from the station here and like this you would have a nice opportunity to go check out the beautiful towns before heading to the chatau or on the way back so beyond the town of Versailles you also have the amazing park of Versailles called which translates into the little park of Versailles despite this it is over 2,000 acres big so it’s absolutely massive and so this is everything basically west of the chateau or what looks like north on our map and so you can enter into the park either through here which is called the queen’s gate or on some days through the mariner’s gate here demetru so those are your two entrances into the beautiful park of Versailles the Grant Trianu and the Petitrianu which are the two vacation homes for the king and the queen visit them it’s beautiful and the little extra the little hidden spot the hidden gem of Versail is the hamlet of Marat outside uh this is where the queen used to hide at the time and it’s just very unexpected so I highly recommend visit the hamlets so if you’re wondering where to stay in Versailles Versailles is full of options absolutely and Versail is actually a great place to stay if you want to kind of get away from the hustle and bustle of Paris l Trian Palace the Trionon Palace which is a great hotel just on the edge of the park of Versailles four and five star pavilion so really beautiful yeah you have the Grunt so Grontrol is in the palace basically it’s like the fanciest yeah and it’s all furnished with historical furniture uh it really keeps you in the illusion of living like the king and the queen for the GR control do not it is minimum 2K to book a room yeah there’s Lulu which is also another great option and it’s literally right next to the main train station to go visit the palace yeah very convenient other options of course is to book an Airbnb there’s a lot of beautiful apartments where you can get a true French experience you know it’s like old buildings with parquet floor uh the old marble fireplace all the the French charm here we are on Rudo Saturi in the old town of Versailles we’re literally just a stones throw away from the palace yeah it’s a very quaint street this is where all the nobility of Versailles used to live back then you have lots of little cafes restaurants it can be a nice little break after exploring the palace yeah they even have a little bookstore where they sell a lot of children’s books and nice postcards a great stop for gift shopping in the summer especially this is a very good place to hang out after tour in the palace so you can sit on a terrace outside have a little spread a glass of wine an ice cream uh or anything else so in Versa if you’re looking for a very good bakery this is one of them there’s also a pattisree and they have won the annual award of the best pastry in all Paris region so highly recommend having a look inside amazing little pastries macaroons everything [Music] so Versa is full of little hidden squares like this one hidden gardens and now we are in the K center which is like a mini city center like it’s you have a wine shop uh you have little souvenir shop where very nice dui tableclo towels uh and more restaurants and I really love these spots because these used to be you know some of the private mansions and everything for the nobility that wanted to live right up against the palace which is now all these like fun little public area so you know this is a very recent transformation that they did to open up this private courtyard transform it into this cute little center giving it back to the people so nice this is a great little cafe right next to the market of Notraam called the Cafe they make excellent coffees so one of the best things to do in Versailles is to actually go check out the market of Versailles at Marin Notraam Notream Market so we are now in the center of the Marin Notradam so it’s a beautiful market that got an award the most beautiful market in Paris region it’s huge you can easily get lots in here but you have fresh fruits very very good produce good coffee little snacks craps you can actually spend a whole afternoon here so the market of Notradam in Versailles it’s actually the second biggest market in all of France they say that there has been a market in this area of the town of Versailles ever since the time of Louis the 13th so that’s a king of France who lived in the early and mid7th century so it’s an incredibly old historic place as well it’s great because this market is open almost all week long uh from Tuesday till Sunday and on Sunday Tuesday and Friday you have a full market day so we have food everywhere outside around us the market it’s mostly two areas so the everyday market from Tuesday through Sunday that’s the indoor market in the buildings that are all around us that make up each corner of the square and then on the Tuesday Friday Sunday you get the special full market day so the whole square fills up with vendors at the moment there are cars going through the market but on Sundays the whole area is closed so it’s only for pedestrians you have entire families coming the grandparents the kids running around some people play music in the center it’s it’s really magical and of course in Christmas Christmas time you have the beautiful lights you might see some Christmas lights already set up in the streets since it is in the town of Versailles there’s a lot of locals that come here so it really feels like a fun locals experience also when you’re coming to the market you’re in the line hearing all the French people speaking bantering a bit oh how are the kids going it’s very convivial so Clara what are some of your favorite vendors in the market so I just got this clementine from Grigette so Garyette is a place just behind us it’s a fruits and vegetable store at Versailles and you will taste the best fruits you’ll ever have in your life uh they have even won an award of the best fruit and vegetables vendor of market vendor in all France and then some of my favorites on Tuesday Friday Sunday there’s also a stall specializing in Britany products so Britney is a region of France that I absolutely love it’s where the crepes are it’s where all the good butter and caramel is made uh so you can get some fantastic crepes as you’re walking around yeah of the salted butter caramel that’s the best crap so another good place is a little truck bright red where you can get very good Italian coffee so that’s why I go and then you can walk around the market explore with your coffee in hand i would say Italian coffee is the only thing I will admit to as a French person that they do way better than us many bakeries around the square but favorite bakery is in front of the church not of it’s called gin it’s a blue awning they have the best sandwiches and also pastries a wide selection of pastries and also it’s a beautiful place um it’s where all the families go after the mass on Sunday in Versail typically to get the big cake for the family uh so there’s always a long line but it’s very efficient and finally you can’t talk about a French market without the cheese oh yeah so you need to try some cheese here at the market of Bruce Light there’s so many vendors you can go see our favorite cheese lady Ana right across from the fruit and veggie uh vendor also that we talked about uh and they have amazing cheeses sometimes seasonal as well there’s over thousand different types of cheeses in France so everybody’s got one that they’ll find they like another place that people rarely go to is this beautiful uh park we’re in right now called the Swiss Lake and it’s literally right next to the palace yeah from the Swiss lake you can see the palace very well and you can also see the orange where you have all the beautiful fruit trees displayed in the gardens you see here there’s a lot of grass as well great lawn beautiful view for a nice picnic a glass of wine and the swans of Versailles and the swans of Versailles they all they all live here so if you’ve been on tour with us uh you might remember that from the balcony from the gardens you can see the statue of the 14 at the very back uh of the lake so it’s the 14th on a horse the king hated it so much that he just put this statue as far away as possible so that no one could see it something you can also do here at the lake you go to the market first you grab some food like seafood in the winter and a bottle of champagne or white wine and then you can go sit here technically it’s not allowed to drink alcohol in the public areas in France but there’s a huge tolerance as long as you don’t break your bottles I think we’re okay so at the Swiss Lake there’s actually a triathlon that happens here every year where they run around the this area of the park they also cycle and then they also swim in this Swiss lake which might I remind you is the home of the swans here in Versailles so I don’t know how clean it is so here we are in the heart of the Kier San right next to the Cathedral of St louis so it’s right behind us over here great neighborhoods a beautiful cathedral dedicated to St louis st louis he was like the most faithful king in our history so all the other Louisie that followed were big fans yeah there’s a nice market that happens here and lots of shops more cafes and more restaurants and we’re also standing right next to the king’s vegetable garden the king didn’t only have a farm and a fruit or place but also vegetable he wanted to have control over the production of his food because he wanted to be sure he couldn’t be poisoned so you can actually visit the pot and next to it you have the school of articulture of Versailles it’s a lovely little place to visit there’s hardly anybody in there but you’ve got beautiful views of the top of the cathedral from there and the palace so that was our guide to the best things to see in Versailles outside of the palace so if you want to book a tour with us check out the link just
