It is a true state-of-the-art control center. This is to collect all the data in real time from all the runners. It’s moving. It attacks. WITHIN this peloton We came back at 1 minute 16 Barguil, Bardet. We saw the DSM team which was active. There is a current of the DSM team ahead. Jacobsen? Yes, it’s definitely Romain Bardet. With support in front, we remind you, with Frank van den Broek who has been in front since the opening breakaway. And in relay for Romain Bardet, we remember him, who is doing his last Tour de France, Romain Bardet, who experienced great, great joys on the Tour de France. He regained 50 seconds, soon on the peloton, almost a minute. Large lactic effort over a relatively short effort. And we remind you, the last 26 kilometers are downhill. So in reality, I almost want to say, there are 23 kilometers of racing left. It’s good to overtake the Giro and Tour Romain Bardet, he had a great Giro as we remember, top 10 of the last GIRO at the heart of this Tour of Italy 2024. And here he will join his teammate, Frank van den Broek. Who got up, we understood that well. Here is Ryan Gibbons, it’s true that the South African champion who will perhaps be able to switch. No, a little whim from Ryan Gibbons. He wanted to, but no. Its toxin. We’re going to attack. We attack the Montemaggio Coast, it is not easy either. He has already returned, Romain Bardet. There are four in the lead. And it’s a new problem for Valentin Madouas and Abrahamsen, because with them there are two teammates. Yes, there, it’s Romain Bardet who will do the foot of the climb and who will stall, I want to say. We see it. Look at his meter, he’s going to start what, as they say. And if he has support, so much the better. And if he has no one, he will continue his effort. How long will Frank van den Broek, his teammate, last? We agree, it is not up to Madouas and Abrahamsen to do the work. They are two from the same team. No, no.
Then even there, there we are, we have just recovered a Romain Bardet who is a better climber, who has just left the peloton, who has references, who has freshness. So it’s clearly his turn to ride. And besides, the first to show some signs is Abrahamsen. Come on, another 1.4 kilometers for the Breton. Bib 95, Valentin Madouas to hold on to Frank Van den Broek’s pace. Bib 187, in front of its leader, Romain Bardet. Bib 181. Big, big climb because we’re taking back time from the peloton. He He is in pain. It’s going to be hard to get two points. Be careful, they are going to leave, the two teammates from the DSM. Hard for Valentin Madouas. He’s letting go of the polka dot jersey. Valentin Madouas. He won’t score any points. There are only two riders who will score points at the top in a kilometer two. It will be good. Jonas Abrahamsen, who should wear this first white jersey with red polka dots. He is suffering. And then Romain who said to his teammate: Let’s go, let’s go. He nodded at her. He understood Romain Barbet when he encouraged Valentin Madouas. Go ahead, hang in there. It’s not common, it happens. Two boys from the same team. Yes. Then, a certain person who had calculated with Frank van den Broek who got up. later to wait for his leader. There, now, we have the feeling that it is Bardet who is waiting a little, obviously, for van den Broek, because the road is long, so there must be at least two of them. There is definitely real suspense. So yes, the leading duo will lose time in the finale. Romain Bardet, fresher than van den Broeke. Van den Broeke, he will perhaps have difficulty doing big relays as fast as the Frenchman. Behind, teams who are going to organize themselves. Come on, there’s a match. There is a match. We didn’t lose anything for a kilometer. Thirty-six seconds, Jacky. The same gap over the last kilometer, the leading duo has lost absolutely nothing. We see them there, in the background, the peloton. launched on the heels of Romain Bardet and Franck van den Broeke thirty-five seconds 4.7 kilometers from the finish line. It’s going to be tense. We listen. Maybe it worked better there. Or not, the DSM team radio. We encourage the boys, obviously. Com on com on it’s perfect, it’s going to go well. It’s just incredible, we encourage them. Obviously, those are a lot of very positive words for Romain Bardet and for Frank van den Broeke. He’s still there, the Dutchman. No more management now. As I said, we are in the last six, seven minutes of effort and we no longer have to calculate. We remind you, even if earlier we lost 5 seconds per kilometer, that’s a kilometer and a half, or even 2 kilometers. It’s crazy. That the gap is the same. We saw 55 seconds, then 50, 45. Quite quickly. And we stay at 35 seconds. Perhaps, Steve, the profile you defined earlier benefits the two men in the lead with these small turns. Another 1.5 km. We remind you, 2,500 meters from the finish, we will have turns, we will have right angles, U-turns. Not much, but it is to the advantage of the two leading men. We felt there was fire. There is fire. And so we brought out the heavy artillery with the brand new Portuguese champion, Rui Costa. And still Jorgenson at work. Maybe we’ll see Tom Skuijns, who even knows Cicconne, and work for Mads Pedersen. We haven’t done everything. He didn’t fight Mads Spedersen in the different climbs 14 seconds at two kilometers now. 14 seconds, two terminals. You’re talking about seven seconds per kilometer. And then, at least, it’s true that sometimes, when you’re at the end of a grand tour, when you have two riders in front, you calculate a little. But here, they are on the same team. Obviously, the agreement will be perfect. Come on, guys. They are 12 seconds, 1.8 kilometers away. He’s done, Romain. He turned around. He is less strong than his teammate in this final. It stings, obviously. It hurts, it hurts a lot. He was superior, obviously, the Frenchman, on the last two hills of the course. But there, on the flat, it is enormous. van den Broeke a little respite, it goes down somewhat, not for long, just about ten meters. Lots of bullets coming behind. There are only ten seconds left. And then behind, look, it’s exploding. There are quite a few runners who are exploding. If there are ten seconds under the red flame, it can do it. For those at the top of the head, there are two left in front. Together again. it will go back behind, before the long final straight, 1.4 kilometers. Come on, we’re going to have two lefts, two lefts, there, just after the red flame. And behind, we have the fire, we have to launch very, very early. It’s still Rui Costa in second position , be careful not to make a mistake on this first left. Are they going to be eaten? Is the image going to be terrible in a few moments for Romain Bardet, the red flame? A new one on the left. With Romain Bardet and Frank van den Broeke it will do it. It lasts more than 5 hours on the bike. And this finale was pilot. For the arrival in Rémini, first step. There are 1 to seconds under the Red Flame, it will do it! Above all, there is a yellow jersey. A Go for perhaps the first of Romain Bardet’s career with this finale. We turn around. No, don’t hold back. With this peloton, the Lidl-Tracks. You have to go here. The front camera. It’s good. It will do it. Rui Costa who throws behind with Betiol in the wheel. But it’s too late. van den Broeke, copy. van den Broeke, copy. until the end Which takes Romain Bardet, its leader, as in an armchair. Romain Bardet for perhaps a first career yellow jersey for his last Tour de France. He has already won three stages in the Tour de France the last time, which was seven years ago. Come on, last 200 meters, it’s in the sprint that the Frenchman will finish for bravo it’s incredible, the look, the smile also from Romain Bardet. Stage victory 50 meters, 40 meters, 30 meters. Romain Bardet who wins this first stage of the Tour de France. First yellow jersey with Pogacar who perhaps came to take fourth place. Romain Bardet, victorious and yellow jersey of the Tour de France. What number he left, we remind you, 50 kilometers from the finish. Then, a van den Broeke who will have got up. No, no. What teamwork! Yes, we can congratulate ourselves. Today was a masterclass. You had to have the legs. Congratulations. Frankly, you couldn’t have imagined a more beautiful scenario today. Yes, it was crazy. It just goes to show that in cycling, there are still unexpected moments that happen. It was sublime. We attacked the tour with a great state of mind. This is the first time I smile before the start of a Tour de France. Not making the general takes a huge amount of pressure off me. I am finally myself and running without thinking. It was fabulous because I had the instinct. I didn’t really know the course, but I had the instinct. I saw a lot of people suffering and I felt really good. I knew we had Franck who was very strong up front. I said: Come on, anyway, I have nothing to lose. At worst, I lose 20 minutes and it’s over. I said: Let’s go. And then afterwards, Franck was super strong. I think it also re-motivated him that I came in front. Normally, we both tried to stay. Honestly, he deserves it as much as I do because he pulled me to the plate at the end. He is truly a great talent. I don’t have the words, I don’t yet realize what was happening. Because we had to stand up to the furious person behind. It was crazy, with the wind in my face, they were hitting me at 46, 47 an hour. Twice twice, it was hellish. Amazing, honestly, amazing storyline. I would never have allowed myself to dream of such a scenario. With a yellow jersey, soon on your shoulders, it’s crazy for your last Tour de France. Yes, I think it’s really… It’s always been one of my career goals and Honestly, I had mourned a little bit because I was often too close to be let go. I had really mourned. But at the same time, today, I really targeted the stage. I really wanted to go all out. My first goal was to escape. It’s the next shot that leaves with Franck, so that was good. And then, just didn’t think about it. I think every time I’ve followed my instinct on a bike, it’s worked out pretty well. It is precisely because you have changed your state of mind that you will perhaps be able to free yourself more, differently? Completely. I think I hope to finally discover, even if late, my true nature. Thank you Romain, well done.
