Some journeys they start with a map. Others begin with a feeling. Here in the heart of Slovenia we don’t ride just to move… We ride to feel, to connect, to taste life in its purest form. Every turn of the pedal brings us closer to nature, to each other, to ourselves. This isn’t just a cycling tour… It’s a
story, a moment, a memory in the making. I started this Discover By Bike project to
share the passion and love for the area we have, since it’s really great for cycling. Today we’re going to have lovely tour that goes through the home village of Matej Mohorič. I did basically visit all the continents riding my bike and racing and I’ve
been to many many beautiful places. I think what makes Slovenia special is
that it’s so diverse. I have never been to a better place to train. You have everything,
all terrain – flat roads, quiet roads, long alpine climbs, short hills… It’s a
perfect place to visit if you want to cycle. I remember how guests feel united when we
ride together. They come from different backgrounds. Everyone has a different life
story but when we come to the cycling group, a kind of magic happens when we
all strive for the same goal. It brings out of us inner peace.
Happiness is only real when shared. I think cycling is one of the
ways that we can achieve it. The forest is evolving through
time more than we can think of. Especially cyclists, I understand
that they see many things around, but I think that they need to feel something more. When it’s not the sunniest,
can be great for cyclists: they will feel the spirit of nature,
a drop of rain, that’s really great. Cyclists are the one who have
the option to feel the land. They can also stop and share
a few words with locals. If you don’t talk to people, you miss half the
journey. Then it’s just kilometers—nothing more. We’ll have an option to meet local
farmer who has rich tradition restaurant. I think it’s the only restaurant in
Slovenia without the coffee machine. They serve only like Turkish coffee.
This guy is something special. We used to supply mountain huts with horses. Before, my father did this job, and for the past 12 seasons, it’s been me. Three times a week I went with 7 horses to Kredarica lodge, twice to Planika lodge, and once to Stanič hut. During the summer, it was seasonal work. When you work with joy and then the guests are satisfied… This is when I think the energy goes both ways – the work tires you, but it also fills you up. Food and drink alone aren’t enough. It’s important to take time for the guest. To have a little conversation, to share something. Because we need conversation, to enrich each other. I feel privileged on what part of the
world I was born in. I try to be aware every day each day that this was the luck I have. It’s something I would love to share with others. Discover Slovenia. Discover connection. Discover By Bike.
