Join me for a breathtaking 30km loop around La Hague, one of Normandy’s wildest and most beautiful peninsulas. From epic views and picturesque ports to charming villages and steep coastal climbs, this hidden gem near Cherbourg is a must-ride for anyone cycling in northern France.
This ride is part of my ongoing Normandy Cycling series, showcasing some of the region’s most scenic, surprising, and story-rich roads. Some sections even feature in our guided multi-day tour from Saint-Malo to Caen, timed to coincide with the D-Day landings each June.
Expect:
🚴♂️ Windmill climbs & wild coastlines
🌊 The lighthouse at Goury
🌿 Quiet country lanes & coastal headwinds
☢️ A detour past the infamous nuclear plant (camera off!)
🎥 Real talk, real roads — no gimmicks.

Hey how you doing i’m in Cherbourg today about
to catch the ferry across to England and I thought I’d get a little sneaky ride in around the
Cherborg Peninsula. This ride is a bit of a gem i’m in a little port called Omonville in northern Normandy and I’m just about to do a 30k
ride around the coast it’s a bit windy it’s been raining but at the moment
the sky is blue with a bit of cloud wow first 5 kilometers along
the coast. Epic coastline i’ve made it to the top and I’m stepping
into an old windmill. Steep steps i can see why they put a windmill here very very windy let’s go to the top see what we
can see wow that’s a view what a view do a 360 I’m heading down towards that lighthouse over
there and then heading back over past the uh what over there is the nuclear factory
so we’ll go the other side of that then come back around and finish by that house
over there so 7k done headwind and bumpy By the way if you love discovering
France by bike from gravel and bike packing to coastal escapes epic
road climbs and hidden villages hit subscribe there’s plenty more French
cycling adventures coming your way we have half a K to a little
village called Auderville and then we’re going on to Goury cap de la Hague We are in Goury i guess this is the most
northern point of Normandy that way will be the Atlantic and over that way will
be the English Channel this is Goury it’s a dead end so I’m going to have
to retrace my steps back up the hill Man catch the view in the back there
the lighthouse is over there somewhere that’s another quite a big climb out
just catching my breath we are off to the Baie d’Ecalgrain and the Nez de Jobourg. if you’re enjoying this ride around La
Hague I also cycle the D-Day landing route just down the coast or you can head
southeast for a scenic bike tour through Britany there’s so much more coming
as we keep exploring France by bike. Well I made it to the top 2 and a half k
that’s a steep little climb through lots of beautiful little villages sure few of the
houses were for sale very nice not sure how much they are but they’re not as expensive as
you think top of the climb and now I’ve got the wind behind me which I am very thankful
for and I have 11k to get back to the van undulating road and oh we’re just coming up to
the nuclear factory so I better switch off my camera Sections of this ride are on our tour of
Normandy let’s go from San Marlo in Britany just on the edge of Britany and Normandy until
Caen our hometown over 4 days dates usually correspond with the D-Day landings in June
check out our website for more information. last 3K back to the van just going along the edge
of the coast can’t really see the coast cuz of all the bushes and stuff so the total loop’s been
30k big chunk of it along the seafront along the coast and then there’s a section that I had
to do past the nuclear power station which not allowed to video came out of town called Beaumont
took a left and now I’m heading back down to base once again I got a headwind but at
least I’m going downhill at the moment ! so that’s the ride 30 km around one of the most
beautiful corners of Normandy with some tough climbs headwinds and hidden bays and villages
along the way if you want to know more about this route or the wider Normandy tour just drop
a message below happy to help thanks for riding along if you’re planning your own French cycling
adventure check out one of these next there’s a whole playlist waiting for you don’t forget
