26" tracklocross frankenstein build

Super duper fun 😀

Tried to spend as little money as i could getting it out onto some singletrack, she runs beautifully.

Had a hard time deciding on a tracklocross frame so when i saw this 1986 stumpjumper frame with horizontal dropouts, i knew i had to make it work for me.

Finding a used 26" wheelset with track threads for a low price is almost impossible, so i found a 26" rear wheel with a disc brake hub and mounted my cog to the rotor mount and flipped the wheel over.

Currently running 46×18 but i have 20 and 16 toothed cogs that i swap out with from time to time.

I think i got really lucky with my chainline, only had to strip the three chainrings off my deore crankset and move the origin8 46tooth onto the surface behind where the largest chainring goes. I did have to grind some of the chainring nuts down as they stuck out a lot from the screw and didnt want to lock the chainring in. I am a machinist though so that was very quick work.

The frame's wheelbase is extra long (peep the grand canyon between my rear tire and seat tube), and the headtube angle is pretty slack, even for a retro mtb so the frame actually feels right at home on singletrack and dirt.

Front brake cus i'd rather shit in my hands and clap, than go down dirt singletrack at 15mph+ brakeless

Let me know if you guys have any questions 😀
