Today Phil and I went to Decathlon on a Challenge to see if we could buy everything that you need to start cycling (minus the bike) for a £200 budget. We go head to head and find some of the best gems that Decathlon have to offer. We really love this place but are in absolutely no way affiliated with Decathlon (but if you’re watching Decathlon, hit me up 👀)

let’s buy some lube so if you want to start cycling there’s a lot more that you need to buy than just a bike I’m back with philli and we’ve got a bit of a challenge we’ve got a budget of £200 and we’re going to have to buy all of the other things that you need to start cycling that’s not a bike obviously we’ve come to the cathlon cuz where else could we get all of that stuff for £200 how you feeling confident there’s a few ways you can go with this we’re going to we’re going to we’re going to be in competition with each other we’re going to do it independently and then we’ll share with you what we find back yourself M I think I’m going to make some terrible decisions I think I’m going to forget something yeah really critical yeah maybe let’s get in and we’ll see how we go on May the best man [Music] win let’s do it obviously we need bottles I’m not going to spend money here two bottles do I match the bottle cage to the bottle $5.99 bottles are $2.99 $179 96 bottles and bottle cages Safety First this is where it begins ready to start how much of the budget we spending on this most of the content is going to me trying on helmets I think I think I’m a medium I’m not a medium just found out I’ve got a massive head this one’s not terrible also I think you can wear it backwards as well we’re done here got to have a helmet I’ve spotted a fle he’s at the cheap end of the helmet oh no look at this HK you better watch out I take it back it doesn’t look quite as good on as it did it had promise it had promise oh no wait a minute I’ve got it here we go that comes off much is it 30 quids got the visor attachment if I do ever need it I’m not sure why I would need it we’re done let’s go look at kit we’re third of the way through the budget so oh wait a minute wait a minute what are we saying does it work I reckon the colors are going together yeah if you’re out in the trails looking like this people respect you $4.99 just a no-brainer that’s definitely going in what is happening here let’s go next important items with pair kit $3.99 feels too cheap though it’s going to do the job though this one I’d need a separate bag or it would have to go in my pocket and it’s too big right I’m going to have a look at bib shorts these are like midlevel $ 39.99 it’s got a good bit of cushion in there which I think is nice they’re a bit shiny these are nicer 10 more it’s a better Shamy as well let SK lights okay got to be USB chargeable in these in these days provisionally be going for this lighter set at $24.99 clothing I’m not buying any cycling specific clothes I cycle to work every day just in my normal clothes and it’s fine oo you’re hard all we want is a rain jacket it’s not terrible she feels quite good it’s not going to be breathable in any way but it’s properly waterproof I need to do some very quick mats this is definitely like an essential we got to build a small tool kit cuz everybody’s got to have one tevers pump multi-tool puncture repair we’re going to call this a lightweight tool kit I’d love to blow the budget on a chbo way bear but not today last piece of the repair puzzle is a pump I want something small so this is probably where I’m at it does feel quite high quality got £87 to spend now I can have some fun look at this it’s electric andette in the front I’m getting distracted right I’ve got an idea I did have my eye on this that’s making your life a lot easier this is not an essential part $39.99 I’m doing it a puncture repair kit and an inner 23 to 32s 3.99$ 2.99 that’s £11 and I want this for all my spares it’s the last one so hopefully Grant hasn’t bought it £44.99 my ti levers I think Grant is going to buy shoes and I think it’s a mistake to buy shoes because if your budget’s only £200 you can only buy very cheap shoes I’m struggling to spend this much money we might be able to buy a luxury item at this rate have I done the right thing here yeah yeah yeah we should buy bib shorts shouldn’t we yeah we going to buy B shorts I think that’s where all the money is going I’m not buying any cycling specific clothes I think this is what I’m buying spending $54.99 but you can’t put a price on a quality pair of BB shirts I sa for a bigger stock range this what they have at this time of year I’ve got five left what can I get this is a f what’s that doing though oh I’ve just had an idea I’ve got nowhere to put my tools5 that’s going to do the job been my last Fiverr put my tools in here and then I don’t my jersey right we’re done let’s review it’s a 5427 I think I’m on 177 let’s buy some lube I hate that that’s going to be the sound bite for the video plant-based lubricant we’re going cheap $4.99 how much have I spent remember we’ve got £550 we could buy a luxury item this is what we’re getting this is our final luxury item some decent quality socks okay so I’ve had an absolute nightmare at the checkout I am I forgot to calculate my bib shorts cuz I had two that I was deciding between and I hadn’t added them in and so it was a little bit of Supermarket Suite right at the end there what a hole look at this had to throw the waterproof jacket out but anyway that was like a that was a nice to have anyway we’ll go through everything when we get home and uh we’ll show you what we’ve got right philli are you ready to reveal what you’ve bought should we start with things that we know we’ve both definitely bought so helmet we got the same helmet I got I got the champagne which is clear CH it’s beige I bought a black one $29.99 it’s not bad for $29.99 is it no you going to keep your visor on does it fit you yeah does fit it fits it feels lovely does it look silly um no black Black’s probably the right choice it does look a little bit mushroom head doesn’t it anyway it’s it’s a good value and it doesn’t look it doesn’t look cheap you can’t argue with that really can you tools what have you got in the tool department that’s what she said did you want multi tool I did buy a multi tool oh I bought a multi tool ooh we’ve gone different so I cheap is cheap yeah okay that is cheap it was 4429 £849 M this is mine mine has just got plastic on the edge and probably a few less tools one look of things did you get a spare tube spare inner tube of course it’s essential what did you get I mean we’re obviously going to have the same so yeah a 23 to 32 yeah I mean Tire leavers 3 one yeah yeah we got those I did not get a Pon repair kit because I hate the ones with the glue I would buy the park tools selfadhesive things instead of those and I did actually want to have them in my budget but I’ve spent 9938 so I don’t I don’t have a punch repair kit I got a new tube though you got so who cares I have one I have two more pieces for my tool kit you have to have a pump surely the same the same I silver I went black I considered you could spend $3.99 but it felt rubbish and it didn’t come with a bracket should you want to attach it to your bike well it’s not technically a tool but it’s how I’m going to house all of my tools yeah me too oh yeah what have you got tool bottle I’ve got this scaffy little that’s nice there was the last one oh okay it was quite expensive it was 4.99 oh what s m okay I think I would go this how many bottle cages do you have well that’s the thing isn’t it this what do you think of this it’s budget isn’t it yeah but it’s going to hold your tools some of your tools yeah I don’t mind it all right to Department done um kind of can I add something else you can I bought some lube I did not buy any lube it was £349 which is good value for yeah that is good value but you know what this could um this could stop your bik being noisy so I B some Loop yeah that’s fair hydration yeah what are you talking I need a to for my to bottle we’ve got exactly the same cheap Stu so really good snug fit shout out to the cathon cardboard packaging with a bit of cardboard string as well to hold it in instead of a cable tie which offsets all the plastic that you bought in the bottle cage on the bottle you’re not throwing that away straight away yeah it’s true it’s a soft nozzle I have one more thing in in the realm of bike accessories it’s a bike light or a set of bike lights I also a set of bike lights is it the same oh no not quite it’s not talk to me about your choice oh so you’ve gone for the St 510 I’ve gone for the 920 yours is premium clearly yeah 300 lumens my front light is yeah mine’s only 80 and then my rear one’s 25 lumens it’s in F yeah I just liked how this looks good it’s Sleek oh yeah there we go look how much did that set cost you you spent money on that that’s great look at that that’s quite impressive really what about the back one oh there it is if that’s it m is rubbish a turn in the shot that’s got have more options it’s not that’s a bad choice though look at mine look at that that is look at M it’s one solitary LED for wow okay um let’s see I’ve got options I got flash I don’t have a why don’t they even Flash these these lights are terrible how much was yours mine was I think I believe it was $29.99 that is great cuz mine was $24.99 and these are rubbish yeah okay yeah I didn’t research lights enough I panicked all I’ve got left is clothing yeah same all right let’s go let’s go be shorts you must have bought be shorts what have you bought what model I spent $54.99 mine are um like lightly warmer but I didn’t realize that until just now but they didn’t have these ones in my size cuz you got here before me clearly y These are nice though actually aren’t they nice yeah I don’t have any thermal bib shorts still don’t bib shorts are like an essential if you if you bought a new bike or whatever you need to have bib shorts It’s C oh gosh what obviously I go at sunglasses good for when it’s sunny they look really good as well but also it keeps the wind and like flies and all of that off your face um I didn’t buy any you didn’t I thought if it was sunny I would just squint I’ve got one more thing I got two more things okay you go fres then I bought P socks did you buy any socks no I thought people have socks already I bought I bought a jersey and I actually splashed out a little bit on this jersey it’s a van Riso I thought it goes really well with my BB shorts like and then my sunglasses I’ve got a whole black l and a beige helmet the reason I went with it it’s nice to have pockets obviously you can just wear a t-shirt on a ride but it’s nice nice to have pockets this has got a zip pocket and another side pocket it’s breathable you’re going to feel comfortable if you’re sweating and you’re out on a ride for a long time I didn’t get a jzz I was I thought t-shirt I did quite a lot of t-shirt rides this year just gravel riding and I found it quite good this my last amount of money I bought a vein jacket not an expensive one no no no no it doesn’t look expensive is it breathable no not is it waterproof probably not yeah yeah that’s what it’s got on its side look at that okay it’s very waterproof that’s why it’s not breathable I mean it doesn’t look cycling specific to me it just looks like a waterproof wrong let me talk you through it cycling specific features it’s got a rear pocket but if it rains I’m laughing it’s actually um I actually tried it on in the shop uh it fitted me wonderfully should we try our out fet [Applause] on any final thoughts should bought a jersey yours looks all right yeah I’m kind of I’m happy with this neck down this is a good outfit we we have realized that bib shorts um at the cathlon are not sized as other brands so we both have gone small which we do in Rafa map Universal colors these are too small so size up jersey though this jersey feels good I feel waterproof um we hope you enjoyed that video um we are going to do a little bit more testing with the cathon kit in the future so um stick around make sure you subscribed if you want to see that but thanks for watching we really hope you’ve enjoyed this one pH it has stopped raining now you can take your jacket off oh okay we will catch you in the next one cheers [Music] h

  1. Loving the sound of thermal bib shorts, bib shorts and leg warmers are the way to go can you, name make and model of them so I can look them up, thanks great video

  2. For jerseys, jackets, and other clothes (apart from bike shorts), at decathlon if you just go around the corner to the running gear section, there is a like a 5x wider range of choices for like half the cost, and the quality is just as good or better.

  3. The triban rc500 is such an underrated bike. It was my first bike and I still use it as a daily driver, still perfect condition( i only change the chain annually)
