Hello, everyone. This is Moon Sang Hoon. Tomorrow we’re headed to Cannes. We’re going to Cannes. Wow. We’re off to Cannes, why? To visit the the Cannes Film Market. [BDNS Presents] I feel embarrassed. I’m sick of this. Let’s go with this one. It’s so fun. Isn’t this cute? One thing that I forgot… Buldak sauce. Mm! One thing that seemed off… in that movie… We are looking for a comedy film. Isn’t that Robert De Niro? [BDNS in Cannes] [In early 2025,
we’ve been talking about importing a comedy film] [In search of a good comedy movie, we decided to
go to France, where the Cannes Film Festival is held] [It all began with
no knowledge of film import or distribution] [The project is still in action] [Three months ago…] [Three years ago] This is the key point. Are we really going in this cold? We know importing a film
from the Film Market isn’t easy. It can be tricky. We know the risks. But still… we’re gonna try. It’s easier to make a movie, you just film. But how do you buy an already made movie? By going to the film festival. Go and purchase it at the film festival. Do they sell movies though? There’s a market. They have a separate booth. When we’re at the Film Market… “Uh…” “How much?” “How much?” “Oh… expensive.” “No, no, no, no, expensive…” “Three hundred, no, no, no.” I’m not entirely sure I’m not sure… So a director makes a movie. Yeah. Then is the director the owner of the movie? In a way… But the director… Let’s say you made a bag. You’re a craftsman. You send it to the marketers. It’ll be sold to professionals like… Sales… The sales people will buy it. And then the… ‘Imported by : BDNS.’ “Oh?” “Aren’t they a YouTube channel?” I’m just trying to picture what it’ll be like. Do you know the process? We’ll have to ask around. Hyun Jun! Have you ever bought a movie? Do you know how to import a movie? Isn’t there like a market? [Market: When films are sold]
He knows about the market. There are companies that buy movies at the market. He knows. [Import: Buying a made film]
You import it. And distributing is a whole other thing. [Distributing: Showing it in theaters]
You have to show it in theaters. Like CGV, Megabox, and Lotte Cinema. Why do we need this? It’s because we’re going to import a movie ourselves. And that movie will say ‘Imported by : BDNS.’ We’ll… We’ll need a professional. We’ll set a meeting with a professional. I like the idea of bringing a movie over. Yeah? Is it because you’re eating cake? The cake makes me think more positively. The chocolate theory… Do we have a film major? Yeah, Jun Beom. Bong Jun. Bong Jun! Have you bought a movie before? How do you do that? – You’re a film major!
– You should’ve bought a film by now! Considering the
break-even point and production costs doesn’t it cost a ton? There’ll be affordable ones. We’ll get the cheapest one. Fun and cheap. Are we buying a comedy film? Of course. We’ll get a fun comedy and invite the Bbadoongies. Yeah we could do like – a talk too.
– Yeah. [With help of the film import
and distribution company ‘Green Narae Media] [We’re going to the
Cannes Film Market held in May, 2025] [Meeting with the
film import and distribution company] Since you’re looking for a comedy we’ll narrow things down. You can see this is a total comedy film. It’s an American film. They’ll be coming to sell it they don’t have a premiere,
but they have a screening at the market. I’ve attached the schedule. I’ll organize everything so it’s easier to read. This is tmi, but the movie is only in English so it could be hard to understand. Everyone could be laughing but we might not get why. That’s why comedies are trickier. Because there aren’t any subtitles. Just by looking at the list you gave us there are so many themes we’re into. They’re all so meaningful. Thank you. [Two months ago] [Two years ago] I have some… comedy films I love so much. Like on Netflix there’s “The Hangover”, “White Chicks” “We’re the Millers”, “Ted” “Ace Ventura”, “The Truman Show” and you see the logos of
the production or distributing companies. Dan da da dan. Dan dan dan dan dan da dan da dan da da dan. Like Warner Bros, 20th Century Fox [Unavailable for subtitling] There’s “It’s New.” And in the beginning of “Shaun Of The Dead.” STUDIO CANAL. Like this. Ha ha! Like dan dan dan! You see tons of these. And that’s how the movies begin. I’m fantasizing about this stuff. We could make “Imported by BDNS” and it’ll make me feel so proud. We’re thinking of ha… I’d like to do this kind of stuff. We might not find the right film for us. A film that we like… There might not be one. So in case that happens we’ll first! Make sure to go prepared. I’m really excited. Since this is new territory I’m super nervous. One thing I act by is to face things up front. I haven’t talked about
my time as an exchange student. I’ll tell you this. When I went to France I didn’t even have a place to stay. Did I know French? No. I just faced it. I thought it’d all work out. Uh… I renewed my passport. I had this green one made in 2015. I made it so I could go be an exchange student. I went to the French embassy to get my visa and I remember doing an interview. Now, it’s been ten years and I’ve renewed my passport. Ten years ago, I was an exchange student and now, I’m going back to France. Wow… It’s been ten years. Ten years have passed. And I’m going to the Cannes Film Market. I feel like… this is all surreal. Wow… It’s like a business trip but it also feels like I’m going for pleasure. One of my favorite songs is “Life is a Journey” by Lee Sang Eun. We’re going to the
Film Market to import a comedy film. If this isn’t a fun trip, what is? Wanna see my neck pillow? I bought a neck pillow. I bought this neck pillow. I was surfing online and saw NAYEON of TWICE say she brings this pillow on her trips. I bought it from Tempur. I’m gonna wear it like this. Or maybe like this? Yeah, this is the right way. I do this. Also. I have an eye mask. I even bought this. Anyway, as I was saying, this is totally new territory it’s a totally new challenge but I feel nervous in a good way. I’ll make sure to prep well. Merci, au revoir. Au revoir. [The day before departure…] Packing for a trip is always exciting. I always want to be well prepared when I go on trips. It isn’t easy, but! This trip is for work. So I’ll have to do good. That’s what I think, so! Let’s start by wearing my sunglasses. Tik tok. Ha, ha, ha, ha! I bought all this. I bought these. For toiletries. So I can take my lotion and toner. I bought all this. And my supplements. I need to take my supplements. I bought this too. Do you want to know something cooler? This is an empty plastic bottle but to clean it I took everything apart I took off everything and put it in baking soda and dish soap and put them in hot water. Then I rinsed everything. It doesn’t smell, it’s all clean. I can put all my lotion,
conditioner, and shampoo. There are travel sized products! But I can put everything in here now. I’ll pump everything in and take these with me and spray, spray, spray. And pat, pat, pat. And squeeze, squeeze, squeeze. Also! I looked up all the long flight tips. I bought these! Chewing toothpaste. The packaging looks so nice. I can share with my friends. I’m leaving tomorrow I should start packing. Oh, and these too. Ha! I bought socks! I wanted to wear these with a pair of shorts. I bought these from SOCKSTAZ. Guess why I bought socks? To wear with these shoes. Hm? I’ll take pictures wearing these. I’ll take pictures with this. Click, click, click, click. Ha! I won’t be able to sleep like this. I have to start packing. I don’t have time! I’ll end up packing all night. I should start packing. Neck pillow! I have to turn the camera off and really start packing. And before I go! I have a song
recommendation to listen on the flight. Would you like to know the song? Okay, okay. It’s a French song. By Lewis Ofman. Now pack! No more dillydallying! Now focus! No, now pack! You’re leaving tomorrow. We have to pack. I want to keep this on. My sunglasses. Ha ha ha! Now I really have to get going. Because I have to pack. I’m sorry. See you! [Flight to France] [Taking on France] [We leave to Cannes, France on May 15th, 2025] He’s blacked out. Where did he get that weird eye thing? What do you think of French cuisine? Good. [Nice, France] We’re in Nice, France. South of France. Baggage Claim. We’ll take a taxi to Cannes. The weather is great. It’s nice and cool, not humid. What should we eat? Can I propose something? Can we… You know how there are
lamb skewer places with menus written in Chinese? If I’m right, there’s a… pizza place with an Arabic menu. I remember the place was really good. It was like eight or nine euros. Let’s go. Let’s go. [Taxi to Cannes] Won’t we be having
breakfast from home most of the time? We’ll get food we can heat up. Oh, and the butter here is great so if we get the right bread, butter, and ham we can make a Jambon-beurre. It’s like we’re going to Gapyeong. It’s beautiful here. We’re in Cannes. We’re at the Cannes Film Market. These days, you don’t
have to be at the Film Market and can make a transaction via e-mails. But this process is what’s meaningful and we felt like
being here ourselves is a better learning experience. At first when he mentioned “Let’s import a movie” I liked the idea but in my case I didn’t know anything about it… I only knew how to watch comedy films on Netflix or Watcha. I didn’t know about the process of importing and how
the sales and distribution works. We were there for a week but it was a hard decision
to go after Sang Hoon’s neck surgery. [Cannes, France] This is the nearest supermarket. Go, go, go. [Check in (with no elevator)] Oh, sorry. Ah… Yes! Agh. I’ll go change. There are a lot of Koreans. There aren’t that many. This is nice. – A seagull.
– It’s huge. [My younger self]
Seagull! They’re not even scared. I think it’s a pizza place. But this isn’t the place – you mentioned, right?
– It isn’t. Shall we look at the menu? I think a place with more people could be better. What about here? Let’s go. [First dinner] We’ll get four draft beers. I’ll get the seafood linguine. Wanna start with snail? Snail, garlic, and parsley. – We have to try, since we’re here.
– Yeah. Four chilled draft beers. I drink too fast. The carbonara looks good. The portions are big. Yeah. Because it’s 40,000 won. It’s 26 euros… I’ll start with the snails. Hello! – Oh, hello!
– Oh. We have to get the badge. Yeah. We’ll meet up tomorrow before 8:30 a.m. We’ll find them and go to the screening at 12:00 p.m. You have time to eat and rest until then. – See you tomorrow.
– See you tomorrow! Green Narae Media has been helping us and they’re a film importing company. When it came to the badges they helped us with the entrance and getting us into the screenings. She stopped by to check on our plans she’s our… coordinator and tour guide in France she’s also our advisor. And we’re extra glad to see her abroad. I wasn’t able to express it as much though. Let’s have a walk around after dinner. Sounds good. [Walking around the Cannes Film Festival] It says “Cannes” there. How cool. Agh! I’m sorry. Wait, Robert De Niro. That was Robert De Niro (it wasn’t). Ah! Hey! This is the red carpet! Oh, there’s… There’s WTFILMS. Oh, it’s where the meetings are held. Wow… We should film a Moon Sang video here. Did we bring the props? – No.
– Ah… This is the red carpet. I’ll just take a selfie. Today we had a 22-hour-long trip to Cannes. This is the main hall… Isn’t that Robert De Niro (it’s not)? Isn’t that a famous person? I’m sorry, I don’t know. This is the main spot. Where the cast of “Parasite” stood. This is that place. We’ll come back tomorrow. – “Where are you from?”
– “I’m from Korea.” I’m gonna say “I’m a YouTuber.” Starting at 8 a.m. tomorrow… We’ll start with meetings and get our badges. I heard those were called screenings. It’s sort of like a premiere. See you tomorrow. [Day two] We’re getting our badges. I want to buy postcards… This is so… hard not to buy. And the keychains. Those are hard not to buy. These are so pretty. Are we having coffee? Sounds good. We need those croissants… They look too good. We can get crumbs everywhere and aggressively eat them. You know? We can shove the whole thing. Four double espressos? Hai. Four doubles. Thank you. What’s a double? Two shots. Because one shot is too small. Even the pigeons look nice here. Excuse me. Four croissants. Hello. Double. It’s still so small. Double. And double. [Breakfast] Have a nice day. Thank you. Thank you very much. How long have you been coming here? – I think this is my tenth time.
– Wow. You have crumbs on your mouth. I do? Is it a lot? “Did you have a good breakfast?” “Yes.” We’re getting our badges at the kiosk. That person is already wearing merch. I want to film this process. All you have to do is scan this at the kiosk. – Scan your QR code.
– Okay. Wow. I got it. Sit. You can see we got our badges. Can I have a picture? Nice. We got our badges now! Now let’s get some groceries. No, we’re going
towards the official screening hall… Oh. Ha ha. The sky looks so nice. Does it? You look legit with the badge on. Do I look legit? The badge makes it look so official. [Cannes Film Market] Oh, Japan. Oh, so this is where the meetings and interviews are held. [The Film Market had booths
from sales companies to sell their films] I’m only saying this now, but I feel like I should step it up. Let’s head to area A. Oh, “The Van.” Is this kind of like a road movie? It’s a father-daughter bonding movie. They used to not be so close? His ex-wife lives with the daughter. Wanna head down? No one is wearing shorts. Is it impolite to wear shorts? It might not be the dress code. Oh, someone is wearing shorts. I thought shorts were impolite, and then I found someone in shorts, but it’s only the fat people. – Au revoir.
– Au revoir. We had a look around the market. We came back as soon as we woke up. We only had coffee. It was a successful trip. We’ll go back to Carrefour (supermarket) to get groceries and water. We’ll regroup and come back out with our bags. Business could be starting today. And like our coordinator said the market has been open for a while so a lot of the films are a done deal. This feels so real now. We’ll ask if there’s a film we’re interested in Let’s go ask. Can you speak English? Of course. English isn’t their first language either so it doesn’t matter if it isn’t perfect English. Let me make an official announcement. From now on I’m shutting down my tourist mindset. I’m here for work. I’m done touring now. Now it’s time for work. Wow look over there! That’s so cool! [The Emart of France, Carrefour Market] This is the baguette. I want this. You know this is good. Should we get burrata or ricotta? Both. Let’s get some crackers too. I hope this is yogurt. A carton of eggs. How about some oranges? Lasagna! Pork. Chorizo. We’ll eat the sausage if we get it. What do you think
about a can of beer before the movie? Yeah, no. We’re here for work. Let’s just get this for now. Right, they have a lot of rosé here. Let’s get a bottle of rosé. Where are the wines? I’m such a tourist. I’m looking at everything. Even the bleach looks pretty. That’s the kebab place. How about some kebab? When’s the next screening? We have to get there by 11:30 a.m. The theater is super close. We have an hour. I know I said I won’t act like a tourist anymore. But I’m acting like a total tourist. And doing all the touristy things. It feels great. We’re going to get some kebab to-go. The place I thought was a kebab place wasn’t it. How about we opt for sandwiches instead? We can get some from the bakery. That sounds like a better choice. Wow. Two of these and two of these. This looks really good. We got one of each. This is jambon, jambon emmental sausage emmental, and then a chicken sandwich. We got four kinds. Wow, look at this. What do we do with these? They’re so cute. Baguette… I need to buy one. Man, I’m here for work… We have to get to the theater by 11:30 a.m. We have to eat and regroup then get back out. We’ll be like the film critic Lee Dong Jin and take notes in the dark. This is the cheese place. Wow… We’ll get one of each. No more being a tourist, no, no, no. [Break time] Mm. The cheese is amazing. What knid of cheese is this? The one I had on the plane was good too. I can’t stop thinking about it. How does this only
have pickles and it’s this good? The first film we’re seeing is the one we’re thinking of importing. [First screening] This is our first work-related plan. Our bellies are full with sandwiches. We’re at the Olympia Theater. When you see people laughing “What? What did they say?” Don’t hesitate to ask. We have to understand the film. Shall we head in? We can’t film inside. – Let’s head in.
– Let’s go. Thank you. [After the first screening] I only got half of the film. Was it fun? – Hm…
– Not really? What about you? Well… It was okay. What about you? Do you think subtitles would’ve made it better? I think so. [After the second screening] They’re doing something before it comes out. We just saw another film. It was okay. But we have to decide whether we’re going to really import this film. Wasn’t it fun though? Would you watch the whole thing on the plane? I… don’t think so. Hm… [After the third screening] That’s the one. It’s so fun. It was so fun! Let’s go with this one. It’s such a… big story, so I was surprised. Wasn’t it fun? But it’s the perfect theme. Yeah, it has all the things we were looking for. Jun Beom and I were laughing out loud. Yeah, I heard you. It’s so fun. But in your professional opinion do you think it’ll do well in Korea? I really enjoyed it. But as you can see,
there aren’t that many people here. That means it’s not a popular film… But it matches what you’re looking for so well. If our team can work with this film maybe, we can make more synergy…. It was incredible. We saw three films. I’ve never watched so many films in a row. It’s rare for me too. We’d watch a film and then only have a bathroom break. Yeah. [We decided to look
at the Film Market to find a comedy film] How about we go here? It’s “The Old Woman With The Knife.” Did you see? [“Cheongnyeon Hwang Du Yeol”]
It’s Hwang Du Yeol. Should we ask? You know Japanese. Let’s ask. Ah, excuse me. [When we saw what looks like a fun movie] [We’d go to the booth for a meeting] So, we are looking for a comedy film. Ah. There’s our e-mail. This one? Yes. Kaiju Guy is “Kaiju” is a monster film. Like Godzilla. Yeah, I think so too. The main character is a YouTuber. This is a baseball film called “I am baseball.” It’s a baseball film made
by people who don’t know baseball. Wanna ask about “Eternal Playground?” I’m interested in this film, “Eternal Playground.” – So you’re from South Korea?
– Yes. You got four different screenings. Thank you, and have a good day. Okay, thank you. I should’ve worn a button-down. I should change. I look too much like a tourist. Let’s go look inside. [Merch shop (must-go)]
The socks are cute. Let’s get something. Can I have a keychain? One more, please. Wow, it’s 10 euros, how expensive. It’s 15,000 won. Let’s stop saying it’s expensive. I should take control. Ah. This… We can get several of these Cannes pencils and give them as gifts. This looks nice too. Did you buy that too? Yeah, to carry everything. Looks nice. Oh, thanks. I saw a cool-looking
person buy it, so I did too. Want to see something cooler? It’s double-sided. No, it’s not. Thanks so much for today. Where do we go now? To eat. It feels like a long day. It actually was. It was a full day. Want to go look? This is insane… Oh man. You can get this for Marae. Look at this… Agh! This is so cute. Ya ha ha! How about some kebab then? Do you want kebab? This is what I wanted. Mm! [Day three] I’ll adjust it. A surprise guest! We’re more excited
to see Koreans when we’re abroad. We’ll be meeting someone here. Where we are is the booth of the Korean Film Council. Do you see the beach? We’ll be filming here. I’m pretty nervous. Trying to host a show here…. It feels amazing. Ah! Oh, hello. – Great to see you.
– Hello. – Great to meet you.
– Likewise. [BDNS Presents] [Special guest, Actress Kim Min Ha]
This is Min Ha. Hello. This is actress Kim Min Ha. Hello! It’s even better seeing you here. Great to see you. This angle kind of
feels like “Forever Waiting For You.” You could come over next time… I’d love to! Thank you. We heard you only have today off. Yeah. What do you do after this? Uh… I don’t have anything planned. But I woke up this morning and read at the beach over there. And came here after having some ice cream. Did you wake up early? Around 8:00 a.m.? I spent the best morning. I woke up and it was time for the baseball game in Korea so I streamed it in the morning. We bought some ready-to-eat food yesterday so I heated one up. Then I slept some more and woke up. That sounds amazing! It was the best. What do you do on off-days in Korea? When you don’t have work. I’m such a homebody. I sleep as much as I want, and when I wake up I read the newspaper. – You read the newspaper?
– Yeah. – It its physical form?
– Yeah, the actual paper. You get them delivered in the morning? Yeah. Do you read the whole thing? I do! How long does it take you? Around 20 to 30 minutes. Has it been part of your routine for a long time? It’s been a few years. How did you start? I felt like… I didn’t know about what was going on in the world. It was hard reading the news on the internet because it’d just skim through it. I felt like I should know better so that’s when I started. Did you apply for a bike? They give you bikes? Back in the day, they did. That’s so huge. Because bicycles… Korea has a high demand. Because they get stolen all the time. Ah! When someone steals your bike you can apply for one if you’re subscribed it’s like a full-circle business. Because
the newspaper companies get more subscribers… It’s just a thought. I heard you went to a lot of
film festivals when you were in college? I did. Was there a particular reason? Because I was majoring in acting. So I naturally heard about film festivals. But even though I was into films I mostly went to have fun with friends. True. When you’re on set and see about 100 people go silent when someone yells, “Action!” And get busy when someone says, “Cut!” It’s fascinating, almost like an orchestra. That’s the experience I had on set. Film festivals are about appreciating
all the hard work that goes into making films. There are also so many volunteers. There are. For me, it was my first time going to
the Busan Film Festival with a movie last year. It’s so different when
you’re there with your own work. It’s so… It made me realize
why people wanted to go so much… I bought these shades specifically for this trip. I bought them to wear on this trip. Even my loafers. It’s my first time wearing these. It goes well with the French vibes. – You think so?
– Socks and loafers. Thanks so much! Socks with loafers! Thanks for noticing. I want to ask you so many things about your work because I love your work. Can we do that where… I think it was during fashion week in France GD was walking by and Cho Seho popped out amongst the press and goes, “Ji Yong!” When do you arrive at the red carpet? Tomorrow! Around 6:00 p.m.? I think that’s when it starts. Could we recreate that and shout… Yeah! And cheer for you? Of course! It’d make me feel supported. I’m worried no one will take pictures of me. “Oh! Min Ha is the best!” “You’re gorgeous!” Can we? [Stay tuned for part two]
We couldn’t find a tux that fits me. So I couldn’t get in. [I GOT MY TUX FIRST
BUT FORGOT TICKETING “EXIT 8” PLEASE] [Please contact
