Thinking about booking your next mountain bike holiday but not sure where to go? I’ve ridden all three of these iconic destinations – Morzine, Finale Ligure, and Ride Southern Spain – and in this video, I break down the key differences to help you decide.
With 16 years of MTB trips under my belt, I cover everything from trails and terrain to weather, travel, cost, guiding, and accommodation. Whether you’re after alpine bike park laps, beachside enduro, or year-round sunshine and switchbacks – this guide is here to save you hours of research.
Stick around to the end to find out which destination surprised me the most… and which one I’d book again tomorrow.
Let me know in the comments which destination you’re leaning toward, or if you’ve ridden any of these yourself. I’d love to hear your take.

i’ve been chasing mountain bike holidays for the last 16 years and if you’re wondering where to book next this video is the one for you morine Southern Spain Finale Lagura three of Europe’s biggest mountain bike destinations but which one comes out on top i’m breaking it all down travel trails accommodation weather cost and vibe no fluff just the facts you need to pick your next trip stick around because the winner just might surprise you [Music] [Music] [Music] so yeah let’s get the boring stuff out the way um this ride southern Spain is a flight into Malaga and we’re about 3 hours on the flight for me so flight into Malaga and then a transfer was about an hour and a half nearly two hours something like that so yeah compare that to Mozy moz is about an hour and a half from Geneva so you got flight to Geneva maybe slightly shorter for most people coming from the UK and uh Nice airport is probably somewhere in between uh if you’re flying out for Finale uh yeah ride southern Spain in its very nature is guided holiday um we’re uplifted in vans um and you know they’ve got trails which are quite close to the uh to the villa and if you watch any of the other edits that I put out from this area you’ll get a real good feel for what the riding’s like um but yeah it’s uh guided lift assisted the guides are fantastic really great riders give you the opportunity to make sure everyone in the group gets looked after gets to ride kind of tracks that they wanted to ride so yeah that’s great fun morzine obviously is the one which is different in its nature with finale being about guided lift assisted though there have been people that go to finale guide themselves using trail forks um so but yeah that’s generally again it’s guided riding um if you’re wanting to get the the absolute best out of the trip Mosine is the one that’s very different in that you’ve effectively got a collection of bike parks uh all linked together with chair lifts so it’s very much a ski style chairlift holiday so what I’ve found with Moy in in particular is look it’s very bike parky so there are off piece trails which are hard technical tracks uh which I have ridden in the past but it was such a long time ago I can’t really comment on them and not a huge variety of them as well so but the bike park stuff for me is it’s great i mean you’ve got again I’ve got edits up from Mosine have a look at those i’ve had great absolutely fantastic holidays there had a great old time uh it is very bike park so you know you’ve got to be really comfortable and happy riding BMS um got to be really comfortable riding the BMS jumps stuff like that otherwise you’re probably gonna find it’s not really your cup of tea if you’re searching for more enduro natural trails then really you know it’s Lanneron Ride Southern Spain or it would be Finale which has some fantastic tracks wait all right and a little breather so the tracks here what I would say most about this holiday in comparison to the other ones discussed is it feels like a real adventure we’ve gone we’ve covered so much ground in terms of finding different riding areas so many different styles of trails so in one day we were riding you know a single track through forests moving on into kind of like some alpine tile territory and then on a downhill track for the rest of the afternoon with some big sands too big for me but a lot of fun had a great old time all right Jack you in a bush mate yeah such great variety here feels like a proper adventure great fun with the guides when it comes to accommodation each destination has its own vibe mosine offers something for every budget from host and self-gated apartments to fully catered chalet with bike friendly features if you choose wisely the town’s buzzing night life is a bonus for some but not all places offer secure storage or space to work on your bike atlas Ride Company runs a solid mosene package including breakfast five evening meals and a lift pass for around £679 but it doesn’t include transfers or guiding so you’re on your own when it comes to navigating the trails for now Lagura leans more towards the laid-back Italian coastal experience you’ll find a good mix of accommodation options in town but the Atlas Ride Company package includes a fully catered villa near the beach guided riding uplifts and airport transfers for £1,290 ride Southern Spain strips things back in the best way possible it’s all about high mountain adventure and home comforts the villa comes with a stunning pool incredible views and a few rescued dogs they even have a donkey called Coco the vibe is very relaxed it’s self-catered with a great breakfast included and from May to July 2025 prices are currently discounted to just £745 including [Music] transfers so yeah the trail’s very natural here um difficulty levels pretty definitely high um it’s not it’s Look I’m a very average rider and these trails are accessible to someone who’s comfortable on fairly tech UK trails they’re definitely going to be different to what you’re used to riding uh loose surface switchbacks things like that but they’re definitely ridable and it’s certainly great fun because they’re so different to whatever it is that you’re normally used to riding so um Morine I’d say levelwise ability level wise are very similar to uh very similar to the tracks at uh Bale and I would say obviously Mosine has area has everything with it being a bike park has everything from green runs down to up to sort of double black diamond bike park you know super big jumps etc and also pointing out as I have done on other edits that riding all this on a 150 mil 160 front travel trail bike that’s been downhillified to a degree my bike choice is probably more fatiguing for sure yeah so the bike parks of Mosine obviously you’ve got greens and blues it’s a little bit more beginner friendly if you’re thinking about doing an MTV trip straight away into you know early on in your mountain biking career uh this definitely requires a bit more ability as does Final [Applause] [Music] [Music] If you’re chasing year round riding the weather matters and each destination has its sweet spot morzine is a summer only playground with lift access running from mid June to early September you get alpine heat in the day but storms can roll in fast and when they do the lifts often shut down leaving trails muddy and in some cases almost unraable file Lagura and Ride Southern Spain are more flexible year round options making them great shoulder season options both enjoy mild winters early springs and long autumns but it’s worth noting that Atlas Ride Company don’t run their packages in Finale Lagura in the winter months ride southern Spain is an all year option avoiding July and August when the heat is too [Applause] [Music] [Applause] much so which one comes out on top morine is ideal for families or groups with mixed abilities there’s a huge trail network and everything’s set up well for bikers but if I’m honest after many visits I do find it now a little bit sy there’s an overuse of flow and burns and the off piece can feel a little intimidating especially when the poor weather turns in finale Lagora is full-on enduro experience long descents proper tech and that big mountain to beach energy it’s raw fast and full of character but Ride Southern Spain is my winner the adventure the trails the villa and the relaxed holiday vibe just hit different after five full days of guided riding I came home energized not wrecked it felt like a real holiday with amazing riding not just a riding trip i’ve been lucky enough to do MTB holidays for over 16 years now and these trips still light a fire in me let me know in the comments where would you go or better yet where should I head next hit like if this helped you decide and subscribe if you want honest MTB holiday content with no fluff see you out there

Great edit and super helpful! My vote is Spain, it’s the one I’ve not tried yet and I’m keen to build up to riding this level.. 🤟🏻
The vibe, pool and animals help ❤😂
You should try Andorra for some splendid Singletrack. I did it 2 years ago, and was amazing.
Of to Spain in October. Can't flipping wait 🎉
Can't fault your reasoning, RSSpain looks fab. Lots of other places I'd consider too. I have trouble enough deciding on my weekly day trip and UK multiday trips. We're really spoilt for choice!
Another great edit and very informative. I was incredibly lucky enough to go riding in Madeira last October. I wouldn't even consider myself as an intermediate rider, I'm definitely below average as far as my riding abilities go, but it was awesome. It was guided by Freeride Madeira. Still get a buzz now when I think about it.
We did Bulgaria in October last year, in the Bansko region, it had everything you need at very reasonable prices, highly recommend. Great informative video John, thanks so much👏
All three are great areas. I’m overdue a trip.
Great video mate I concur with your morzine summary 100% ..my first trip in 2001 on GT LTS then we went back 23 and 24 the last trip was miserable the worst weather in that region for years nearly died on a red in chatel it was carnage an expensive trip for very little ride time..for me now finale ligure is top of the list mainly as i can take my own e bike on the plane and rent a specialized battery out there the set up looks ace mountain to see il take that over any berm fest all day long kerp up the mint content 😀
Fantastic video ! We’re looking at Spain next year !!! September time
Austria.
Spain in the winter, Finale in spring ,Pds in the summer😎
Morzine was great… definitely fancy RSS next and then maybe Madeira 🤔 mates are going to finale in sept but don't think my trail bike would cut it!
Which part of Spain ? Marbella, Malaga? — Have you ridden Basque and Ainsa as well?
I highly recommend MTB Verbier (Erik). Did that last year in July.
This year we are going with Ride The Alps in Samoens.
I have to agree with you on Morzine. I personally didn't like the Morzine BP too much as it's all about jumps and big berms. It's good, but not my type good. Our family still had great time on long blues, but there's something lacking and connection between some villages was poor (with smaller kids)
Great video, I'm currently living out in malaga and desperately want to ride these amazing trails I keep seeing on YouTube. My problem is, it seems I have to book through a holiday agency? I'm already here with my bike, I just need an uplift service, is there anything you can recommend?
Really enjoyed this video 🤘. I've been living in Granada for the last year and have ridden those southern Spain trails often, so I get what you mean. For another epic Spain riding location for you to check out (better riding than Malaga/Granada in my opinion) is in Tremp in northern eastern Spain (near the Pyrenees). Best riding I've ever done and enough trails to not ride the same one twice in a trip.
Hi John. Looking into a RSS trip for next year possibly. Just wondering what the food arrangements are please?
Been lucky enough to have just had 10 weeks in the Alpujarras, brilliant riding. Also done 2 BasqueMTB trips in the past there backcountry Pyrenees trips also incredible riding and an excellent operator.
I would recommended Anisa and Tremp. Need up lift. I was there in April and it blow me away. Northern Spain.
Hi, have you ever ridden at Llandegla mtb trail centre?!
Did my first trip (and first time on a full sus) was to Finale. Great place, but not for newbies. Broken shoulder day 3! The beach area was full of walking wounded! I'm tempted as I improve to check out Spain. Slovenia looks good too – maybe review that next?
