5 Beautiful Places to Visit from Cardiff, Capital of Wales

1️⃣ Penarth Pier.

I love this little spot and it’s beautiful throughout the seasons.

You can either catch the train from Cardiff Central and walk the 10 minutes from Penarth station or drive and hope for the best when it comes to parking.

When I’m feeling particularly masochistic, I cycle (the journey across the barrage is scenic and stunning but the steep hill at the other end is enough to put hairs on your chest.)

2️⃣ Castell Coch

It looks like a medieval fairytale but was actually built in the 19th century by a Victorian eccentric with a flair for fantasy. Think turrets, murals, and Gothic drama.

3️⃣ Caerleon

Step into Roman Britain with an amphitheatre, baths and barracks that are reasonably well preserved (though admittedly, not as impressive as the Colosseum in Rome…)

4️⃣ Dyffryn Gardens – Just a short drive west, these National Trust gardens stretch for over 55 acres with fountains, hidden sculptures, and seasonal blooms. c.

5️⃣ Southerndown (Dunraven Bay) – Clifftop walks, dramatic rock formations, and golden beach scenes that have featured in everything from Doctor Who to His Dark Materials.

Any more to add? Let me know!

things no one tells you about Wales this elegant old school seaside spot may look like the kind of place for fish and chips and a stroll and it is but there’s more going on beneath the surface as Cardiff became the biggest cold port in the world in the late 19th century this place blossomed as the wealthy moved nearby building houses along Millionaires Row the pier itself opened in 1898 and survived wartime bombings wild storms and a rather dramatic fire and today it still stands strong with an art deco pavilion vintage cinema and possibly the world’s smallest sweet shop author Rald Dah came here for his holidays so the next time you come across the witches just think perhaps the magic began here find out where it is and more beautiful and unusual things to do in Wales in the caption
