Sandford Orcas was once considered to be the most haunted house in England. We visited it, as a family, in the 1970s and were shown round by the, then, tenant, Colonel Francis Claridge, who leased the manor between 1965 and 1979. My dad even thought he spotted a ghost!
However, it’s now believed by some that the ghost stories and hauntings may have been fake – a means of attracting paying visitors to tour the house. … Or were they??!!
