23:38 Interview with the Auctioneer, Richard
hi everyone and welcome back to another one of our auction reviews we’re back at Hannesmate Museum for Charter Houses’s Courtly Classic Bike Auction and this time we’ve got quite a good mix for you we got some really cheap project bikes we’ve got a little clutch of sports mopeds a couple of rarities in there as well and all the regular bikes from the ‘ 70s through to the naughties that you like to see so we’re going to do the usual thing pick out a few that I find interesting and we’ll watch them go through the auction to see what they get to and of course the important question you keep asking is what is the buyers premium here it is 12 a.5% plus VAT so 15% in total and we’ll add that into the price we show you on screen so let’s stop waffling and get on and have a look at a few bikes if you’re looking for a good way into Z1000 ownership without having to spend mega bucks I think this bike could be a really good opportunity it’s actually an import so it’s technically a KZ1000 but it’s got all those nice bits you like to see on the Z000 which is the the original spoke wheels it’s got the original exhaust mainly not the era of the 4 into four but I still think it looks really nice uh this one was imported in 2018 probably from America if I’m having an educated guess showing just 18,000 mi and is unrestored i think it’s just a really nice looking bike estimate 6 to7,000 pound what’s not like to like really it It says it runs well okay let’s see what the auction they did with it at 6,000 4,000 is bid thank you 4,000 i have at 4,000 bid at 4,000 424548 at 4,8 I have bid now look at 5,000 where is it i’m at £4,800 the Kawasaki KZ £1,4,800 i have bid now at £4,800 and away now at £4,800 last chance away here with us at £4,000 to 4,000 day again that’s just us for the time being well if you want a Harley-Davidson and you don’t want to fling your leg over two tons of Milwaukee metal how about this little Harley-Davidson X90 no I haven’t seen one before either and this came from Harley-Davidson’s tie up with an Italian company called Emachi and they produce various sizes of uh little bikes like this uh eventually Harley decided it wasn’t for them and they sold the factory to Kajja um this one estimated 3 to 4,000 um it seems an awful lot of money for 8 horsepower but hey what do I know if you’ve got a big Harley in the garage maybe you want a little one to go with it next one i did some research on this um because this particular model say it says it’s been restored with lot of new old stock parts i think there must have been a little while ago cuz a little bit of patina over it i’m not saying it’s in bad condition it’s just not it’s certainly not conc uh apparently the nickname for this is the shortster as in sportster shortster yeah okay i get it eventually um I don’t know uh it could be something a little bit of fun for somebody you’re not going to go very quick on it could be a bit of a giggle but let’s see what the biders thought of it we’ll start bit 2,000 2,000 is bid thank you 2,000 i have at £2,000 i have bid now 2,000 i have 224 at 24 now at 2,400 26 on easy life easy life at 26 easy life at 26 i have bid now easy life at £2,600 now try again if you will easy life at £2,600 will submit it as a provisional bid at 2,600 provisional bid is 5044 203 the Yamaha FJ range was the the top end of the Yamaha range back in the 1980s this is sort of second generations it’s the 1200cc version and this one I think would make a cracking basis for a resto uh it’s been stored for 23 years um it’s really tidy but particularly it’s really original it hasn’t got original exhaust it’s got Predator exhaust but they don’t look out of place um everything needs a bit of a tidy and a freshen up but otherwise I think it would be a great start it’s got obviously this non-standard flip up screen were popular back in the day and yeah it’s a bit of a heavy old beast but yeah you could you could have some fun for this or maybe you could just recommission it get it up and running and off you go don’t know let’s see what happened when it went under the hammer 300 is bid thank you 320 340 at 340 bid 360 380 400 420 450 480 thank you 480 it’s on the wall here on the right 480 i think you’re not bidding are you they’re just having a little wavy conversation with themselves over there yeah like that like that sort of big box little box yeah at 480 yep stop um yeah that that it just means put your hands down yeah unless you want to buy at 480 i’ve bid on the far right at 480 i bid now at 480 on the wall here and I said it now five yes you back in again yeah 500 at 20 at 520 on the wall now at 520 at £520 sending the water 5206 right this is one I really like suzuki GT250 obviously a little Ram Air engine this one looks really tidy it’s uh 1975 so back what’s that a end plate so beot and tax exempt i think this is a really nice looking little bike interesting thing I noticed on it it’s got a left hand kickstart which I think is quite unusual uh apparently this was ridden to the show it’s been restored by a previous owner um just showing 8,370 mi something that’s nearly 50 years old who knows if that’s right but estimated at just 2 to 3,000 and my gut instinct is I think it will smash through there reason I think that is that these lightweight bikes are getting popular with the older guys and girls of course and I I think that might as a nice option for someone who wants something a bit more lightweight but let’s see what the auctioneer got for it away now 1,500 is bid thank you at 1,500 I have now at 1,500,600,700,700,800 1900 was 2,000 22 online 224 bid reserve is well and truly off some time ago 24 the room bid 26 in the room black cat at 26 28 3,000 32 34 36 with you 35 bid i’ll treat it exactly the same 35 bid 36 with you 36 37 with you 37 come a long way thank you at £3,700 i have bid i’m looking for another 100 where now I’m at £3,700 i have bid now here on the trike at £3,700 and I sell at £3,700 and away thank you is Kawazaki had the GPZ range of 550 750 1100s and Suzuki’s option was the GSX range and the um suffix term used to be E for like unfaired EF for half faired down to here and the EF was the the full faired version this bike is a bad GS750 EF and that’s because it was an import from Canada I think back in uh 2001 i think these fairing lowers are are aftermarket um it does seem a a tidy bike but I don’t know how much love there is for these particular models it’s a bit like the the GPZs i’m not sure that they you really have quite cracked it yet estimate wise it’s 1,500 to two grand yeah I think it might just scrape that it’s good tidy condition it’s got neater exhaust which we know are quality aftermarket ones um but I think it’s going to be tight let’s see what happens as I have bid £1,000 I have bid now 1100200300,300 i have now at £1,300 away now suki GSX 750 at £1,300 the bid is here with us at £1,300 away now at £1,300 away here with us at 1300 it stays with us stays at 1300 there we are italian bikes back in the 80s were always a little bit niche until um Ducatti came along and obviously their world superbike domination and you know they became more mainstream this 1988 Moazi SE 10000 very sort of typical example of their 1000cc bike this one does look in particularly good condition done 70,000 km so what’s that 45,000 mi um nice original bits like the original exhaust and it’s got that very 1980s thing of a 16-in front wheel to give you that really quick steering um I never know really quite where these these sit but this one’s up for no reserves so could be a bit of a bargain if you’re prepared to take a gamble let’s see how it gets on 500 bid bid thank you sir 500 i have 20 where now it’s a no 520 550 Is that a vegan sausage roll 580 600 620 650 650 680 700 720 750 Rub 750 Route 780 800 £ 800 the room bid room at 820 850 880 900 room at 900 standing on my Right 20 by 50 980 against the sausage roll or is it a paste 1,000 is bid online you bid online at 1,000 at £1,000 i have bid at £1,000 it’s on easy live at 1,000 i’m looking for £,100 where now the room is out it’s all on the internet all on easy live on my set,000 now we know trials bikes are really popular at the moment particularly classic ones and Honda are no exception this one’s an XLX250 i’ve done a little bit of research it looks very similar to what we knew as the XL250 in the UK this is a 1984 model but was imported into the UK in 1994 um doesn’t look too bad there’s some interesting goo over the tank not quite sure what’s going on there um it’s never had an MOT um since at least 2005 it’s not on the electronic records i had a look done only 16,000 mi does need some recommissioning there’s a sort of split in the seat and yeah it’s typical trials by really um would you use it as is possibly or could be good basis for full resto well it’s guided at 1,000 to,500 and we know some of these in really good condition can go top money so might be a bit of a bargain so let’s see how we got on 500 is bid 520 550 580 at 580 away now the Honda 250 last chance to away 600 and 20 at 620 bid now 620 650 680 at 680 bid here at 680 looking for 700 now you’re out to the back at 680 away now at 6700 is the bid at 700 at £700 this time the bill is right at the back at 700 the bill is at the back at £700 i submit it as a provisional bid let’s say 100 provisional bid the number on this please bit like the GT50 this Yamaha RD200 is a nice little lightweight two-stroke bike back in 1976 this would have been the rare beast it’s got electric start this one has got a pretty low estimate though it’s only 1,500 to 2,000 i think the big thing that lets it down unfortunately probably is the paintwork you’ve got the back of the tanks in primer so I’m guessing that’s had some kind of repair but otherwise it looks pretty tidy there’s a little bit of patina on things like the exhaust and so on but otherwise yeah sort the paintwork out and you could have yourself quite a nice little bike and I think at that kind of uh estimate it’s not going to be a big dent in your bank balance but as we know it’s down to the uh bidders to decide what it’s worth bid00 1100 I have here i’ve left 1,200 on the left now 1,200 at £1,200 away now we’re going to submit it 1300 you bidder 1300 still to be submitted provisional here at£,300 at £1,300 take a 50 if it helps you 50350 the bike is for sale 1,400 and 50 to oblig if you want it 1,400 bid the bike is for sale and will be sold another £1,400 it’s close for me with the glasses at £1,400 i sell at 1,400 good number sir if you’re into your naughties bikes you’ll know exactly what this bike is by looking at those four exhaust pipes yep it’s a MV Augusta F41000 now these are as we know quite a rare bike this one’s from 2006 the F on it has come from I believe the fact that Ferrari were involved in its early engine development i’ve looked online i was going to compare it to like the um the car brands you know is this the Ferrari or the Lamborghini but I’ve looked online and there’s such an argument around this i’m not going to get involved this one has sadly come from a deceased estate uh but is in really good conditions been off the road about four years but only done just over 8,000 miles and it’s just such a lovely bike estimate on it is £8 to 9,000 and I think there’s a steady ongoing demand for these bikes so I think it’s going to do it but of course let’s see what the auctioneer can get for the bike at the end of the day 5,000 is bid at 5,000 i have 5,000 52 558 at 5,08 i have bid now here at £5,800 away now the bid is with us 6,000 is bid thank you £6,000 i have on easy life at £6,000 i take two where now £6,000 we’re going to submit this as a provisional bid it’s still very provisional but we will be submitting it and that’s £6,000 provisional bid is £6,000 it’s 5089 and now in the words of Montipython time for something completely different this is outside my knowledge sphere so I’ll be referring to the notes uh this is a Lamberta from 1960 it’s an LI125 that’s been fitted with an RT195 kit which makes it nearly 200cc it has got an absolutely beautiful paint job it’s um the Hoo band uh inspired beautiful airbrushing uh I assume this is um leopard print on the uh the seat and some of the paintwork obviously those mod accessories with all the lights uh horns blue lights on the front extra red lights on the rear and the ultimate accessory it’s got a trailer which has got a matching paint job and well it’s just something else um where would you value something like this i haven’t got a clue according to the estimate is 6 to7,000 i doubt you could build it for that um who knows let’s see what the auctioneer got for it £4,000 is bid 4,000245 48 5,000 52 55 58 6,000 62 65 68 7,0002 75 Will you 7,0005 7,000 8,000 82 8,0005 bid 8,0008 bid 9,000 William 9,000 92 95 with you 95 98 It’s a big round number 10,000 with you seated at 9,0008 10,000 is big thank you 10,500 20 and a half let me put it that way sounds cheaper 20250 no 20 and a half at this level please sir £20,000 is seated you all come a long way 20 and a half if you will now 20 and a2 bid 21,000 bid 215,000 will you 30,500 will you the bid is here seated second row are 30 and a2 31,000 31,000 seated 315,000 with you is bid 32,000 32,500 win you at £32,000 and I sell it second row seat and you’re all sure last chance and I Now thank you 661 when did you last see one of these a Zuzuki O50 it looks like the love child between a Ray Chopper and the original Suzuki ZR50 sports moped it’s not really my kind of thing but I can see you having a bit of a giggle with it it comes with back 1981 i can remember these back in the day but bl I can’t remember the last seen one this one is unrestored it must be almost one of one cuz you don’t see them nowadays and most of them got abused anyway so have been restored in the meantime it’s got a nice little bit of patina to it runs well apparently estimate 2250 to25,000 you could have a little bit of fun if you want something to run to the pub on a Sunday lunchtime it could be a giggle let’s see what happened away now 1,500,6500,700 1,800,900 at £1,900 away suzuki Chopper here at £1,900 and away now £1,900 away last chance to wait here with us at 1900 street fires I’m afraid are really not my thing i know back in the sort of late 80s early 90s just in 2000s they were a big thing you know take the fairing off hired bars this is not my kind of thing sadly this one is from a deceased estate it was originally GSXR 10000 uh it’s not a UK bike it was imported in 2007 it does need some light recommissioning uh it’s got some very nice touches to be fair the paintwork looks like it’s been airbrushed it looks you know it’s been done very well there’s a signature on it so but all the the rear sets and that sorry it’s just not my thing um it’s estimated at 2 to3,000 problem is with bikes these are very niche they’re so niche aren’t they if it was original I think it might be that kind of money somebody might fall in love with it you know nice accessories wavy discs and all those kind of things but don’t know let’s see what happened when it went under the hammer is bit £1,000 i have now thank you 1,000 away 1,100 1 1200 thank you 1,200 bid at 1,200 nice looking bike at 1200 1300 easy£1300 easy life at £1,300 away now easy live at £1,300 I have bid now easy live at £1300 any further advance we’ll submit it as a provisional bid at £1,31300 it’s 5012 now this is a bit of a rare beast but I really like it it’s a fun little thing it’s a Honda Dream 50 now this was uh sort of inspired by Honda’s original race bike the RC 110 these were only produced a couple of years around about 1997 it’s got a screaming little four-stroke dual overhead cam engine which puts out a whopping 5.6 horsepower at 10 12,000 RPM apparently running and going little bit of between here and there but nothing too dramatic but really when are you going to see another one estimated 1,500 to 2 1/2 again I don’t think that’s too bad for something that’s quite rare and it’s alongside the Harley and I think this was the one that I would have out of the two but of course let’s see what the bid is decided it was worth bid thank you 1,000 i have at 1,00200 at £1,200 away now at £1,200 i have it away now at 1,200 i have 1,300 1,400 at 1,400 away now at £1,400 away now the dream here 1,500 at 1,500 on easy at 1,500 the reserve is off the bike is for sale the dream is making a real dream here at 1,500 pound away now at £1,500 and I will sell it now the dream it goes i selling away the dream at 1,500 the Honda CBR1000 was their sort of super bike of the day the big brother to the really popular of course CBR 600 for me I don’t think it ever really cut to mustard as what it was up up against particularly GPZ 900R that was always popular back in the day um that jelly mold look never for me really translated to the big brother this one’s 1988 uh last on the road back in 2001 47,000 mi and as you can see it’s a bit unloved you’ve got the the rear sets are bits of metal from various sources and various bikes those exhausts uh would be more at home on a 60s Triumph Bonavville the fairings in bits there’s a few panels down here but they’re really not in good condition there we know plastics are always a problem really for me it’s a parts bike or it could be a really really brave restoration who knows but let’s see how it gets on when it goes to auction at 130 right over the back 140 online at £140 150 thank you 150 room at 150 internet other portal trying to come in there still the room at 150 uh in 160 160.com 170 room 170 room 180 180 on easy life easy life of 180 easy life of 1801 190.com 190.com the room is out of 190.com at £190 now lost 200 on easy 200 easy 200 00 20 to apply to where now easy life don’t be too quick please at £200 I have bids on easy life at 200 that means you got to work it out 200 bid well done 200 I have bid on easy life and I sell how I sell 5015 well that’s wrapped up all the lots that we want to look at today and as ever Richard has very kindly agreed to join us for a bit of a post auction chat where are you sitting I’m sitting in the hot seat can have a go with your hammer Well you can have a go with a gavvel oh gavel now are you left or right-handed what do you write with right so you hold the gavl in the left yeah not like that no no you hold it with your hand you hold it in there otherwise like that that’s it what I just bought the reason being if you write with your right next time you watch Next time you watch Matthews’s they they they they hold the gavl in the right hand they put the they sell it put the gavvel down pick the pen up then put the pen down and pick the gavvel up oh you’re professional i find it slightly frustrating so if you’re right-handed hold the gavvel like that and then you you’re straight your straight away so the question I’m sure they’re going to ask you is that’s a gabble but you hammer the It is a gavvel i mean yeah but you hammer It goes under the hammer that way it’s the hammer price ah okay it’s the hammer price maybe Maybe it should be Would you like if I called it the the gavvel price but let’s not let’s not complicate it too much he want very few people get to see I know and you got like you look across your empire really don’t you like a like an emperor let’s move on quickly so we’ll talk about the sale first um again it’s very typical at the moment bit of a mixed bag but one stunning you know vehicle that went through which I must admit I’ll be honest I only caught last minute yesterday i thought that might be interesting and then we all sat there and the bidding you saw I have sped that up considerably just to get to the end cuz it was an epic wasn’t it it was a uh it was a session yes uh it’s a session I particularly enjoyed um it was obviously two people were having it whatever and when that happens and rarely does that happen at auction you because quite often you know if you’ve got a Kawasaki Z 900 you don’t buy that for 10 grand there’s going to be another one somewhere for nine or 11 you know you will find another um it was quite an amazing Lamberta the paint job was stunning um I’ve pushed it around actually it’s incredibly heavy and very unstable i mean you know you’re kind of sort of doing this on it but the person uh who’s bought it uh I think from from an American museum um his instructions were buy it that was it and that was it now they must have a very good client relationship because if I said to you “Go and buy me this,” and you said “Rich I bought it i spent £32,000 on it.” I would hit the floor i would say I know I said buy it but I didn’t mean buy it buy it just buy it for eight grand um and it was it was quite quite a long way it did sort of help hold the tension of the room that one didn’t it and did he got a deservedly round of applause at the end well I I’m I’m sure ultimately it was down to my amazing and modest auctioneering skills and talking of those skills being in the hot seat what what obviously there’s a big screen behind us which um shows the the the bike for sale and the current bid and so on but we’ve got cameras here we’ve got laptops what goes on here Richard uh I mean it’s it’s this is a hive of activity mhm i often feel like the the news reader quite often I’m I I I get quite hot and I quite just take my shoes off but you and I never know if I’ve got matching socks on that but of course you can’t see that it’s all very mysterious so yeah so we’ve got the two cameras um those two cameras actually feed four internet portals and all the bids flash up on here uh also up on here I’ve got the lot numbers I’ve got the image of the bikes I’ve got the descriptions I’ve got the current bids I’ve got the asking bids all all the information so if I actually forget what I’m doing you’ve got a prompt i I’ I’ve got a a little polite reminder but of course my this is my fourth decade in auctioneering professionally you like to get it right and the other thing is which I know you remind people online is that it’s not eBay don’t try and do the last minute diving you need to get your bid in because you do you’re going to put the hammer down at some point and it’s got to come down and often you know I’ll show the camera i’ll talk to the camera because we’re all human beings although I can’t although you can’t talk back which is quite the way I like it but talking to the camera and I’ll show the gavvel and you know it’s going to go down because there’s nothing worse than bringing the gavvel down it goes bang and then the bid comes in sometimes as I bring the gavvel down and I can’t stop my hand and the bid comes in it’s a split-second decision and I can put it back up again but if it comes down to me the gavl goes down and clearly the bid uh the gavl comes down and clearly the bid is late then it is late and I can’t I can’t do anything about it and that there was an interesting question yesterday when we were chatting somebody come along and asked what the delay was between like in the room and what’s here and you said there’s just about a second if that it it depends on your own speed of internet so I mean 1 second is actually quite a long time 1 second is that and then the bid comes in but when you’re watching it online at home you’re seeing me talking you hear me talking you bid when you think is in real time but you’re a second behind yeah so we have to give everyone a little bit of a chance hence why we had the uh the 4hour soap opera of selling the scooter um just you know nice and easy nice and steady we’ve got to give everyone a chance we don’t favor anyone in the room to the internet and we don’t favor the internet over anyone in the room and of course in addition to that we have people who leave absentee commission bids i like to leave £4,000 at lot 292 the Kawasaki or whatever it is so there’s a there’s a lot of auction stuff up here so there’s a lot going on okay time for your plug what you got coming up so big classic car sale nearly 60 cars from big collection of minis always very popular they’re not you know plenty of spares uh lots of MGTC’s TFs the older TFs um MG MGC’s Roadsters you name it we’ve got it in there and that’s the 26th of June back here at Hannes Museum back here at Hayes Museum brilliant thank you as ever Richard for taking the time out to talk to us i know you’re busy and you guys at home I really hope you’ve enjoyed it i know the last video we did on this was very successful and hopefully this one has been too and as ever if you’ve enjoyed it please hit that like and subscribe buttons it’ll be really appreciated until next time

Wow, £32 for the lambretta, amazing, great video mate really interesting to see what these classic bikes make
Gavel guy top bloke , love to see him push a Harley round the show room
One thing you never see, is the chopper style FSIE, like that OR. My mate had one, which I thought was seriously gay 😅
I'd have paid a grand for that Moto Guzzi just to be able to look at it every day.
the Lambretta with sidecar/trailer not only had the mural of The Who [all members were actually recognizable – not common on most spray jobs] BUT had Keith Moon and John Entwhistles Autographs – both of whom are dead, so 36.8k is not surprising
The bike I was interested in was the Scott Squirrel behind the first Kwaker, but you didn't show it. I would be more interested in C15's, B40's, Tiger Cubs, Arrows, Crusader's and any Velo's, and the 1000 Guzzi looked ok too, but not Japs
32k for a scooter!! Not for me
Some strange stuff on sale there. Just goes to show that old and rare doesn't mean valuable.
30 grand for a bloody hairdryer! More money than sense when there were many more better bikes 😮
Nice work Oscar, was nice seeing you stood next to that Harley and looking like you wanted to be bidding even though being too short to ride it
Very cool thanks.
Great to be there and see the bikes up close good day at the aution
£37000 pure madness
Smashes its estimate! No apostrophe!
Apparently my wife and her sister had a pair of OM50’s, one Black, one White, odd looking things, so are the bikes 😖
32k for that horrid thing. I love me scooters but for god's sake. That's one of the ugliest models that they ever did. Tacky, there's some fools around
Absolut fookin quality…fast show, meets Alan Carr….❤😂….wow loved it………some decent old school bikes 🏍…massive respect 🙏
That Lambretta was a crazy price.
Loved the Honda dream 50.
Very enjoyable, thank you! (I liked the critique of the Mathewsons' technique at the end.) I daren't visit one of those auctions, or my ISA would be wiped out!
70s is the golden era of Japanese 2 strokes.
They made horrible changes to the design of the 70s bikes in the 80s lots of plastic and bad paint jobs you cannot beat a rd350 air cooled😅😅😅
Great video Oscar, i very much enjoyed the interview with Richard Bromell. I must point out a fact that you were not to know when you made the video that the little Harley Davidson X90 mini bike did not sell as it did not meet its reserve. A bit of trivia about this mini bike is that it was made between 1973 and 1975 , less than 1600 were sold and it was designed to be folded up to fit in the boot of a car. It had a marine fuel cap so the fuel did not escape when it was on its side. The particular X90 you were looking at was kept for 30 years in the private collection of Warrs Harley Davidson , London Englands longest running Harley Davidson dealership.
Lambretta must have had a kilo of "marching powder" in the cubby "ole 🤣 thing looked like it had been magnetised and dragged through a fkn scrapyard 🤣
The GT was a good purchase..
Who has had their heart set on one of these 1960 custom Lambretta scooters?
It's an LSD nightmare in my eyes.
One could have a cherry CBX for this kind of money.
Madness for that scooter, especially sad as theres a painting of the Who with pedo Towsend on there. Juhaptergee
Nice video Oscar. , did he mention the book 🤣👍🛵🏍
£32K for a scooter??!!….they should have their money confiscated!!
Des milliers d'entreprises ferment, il faut sauver les meubles.
Patina ❓ don't you mean rust. 😮
Crikey, what a price for that scooter.
The seller must've been over the (Keith) Moon…
The dream 50 was a good buy, unusually for one of those you could see it had been used and not kept as an ornament.
I just watched a Pom, surrounded by Pommy bikes, at an Auction-house in England
Show me Jap cr@p and euro trash…….
FARK !
£1500 Honda Dream 50 seemed like the best catch there.
32 grand for a custom hair dryer bonkers
british bikes are on the floor, 2 years agog 4 to 4.5 grand. this year they are down to 2 to 2,5 for the same bike.
Thank you for the time and effort. Great info. Didn"t know this auction was on and I live only 2 miles from Haynes. What a plonker.
Enjoyed that!
