Hey guys, I have a new bike with a RockShox Judy Silver fork. But after every ride when the fork is compressed, there is a thin ring of oil that forms around the bottom of the stanchion where the seal is.
The oil is only on the right side stanchion and not at all on the left.
It isn’t really a substantial amount, and the oil doesn’t ever form into a pool or drip down the fork, but it is a little puddle ring that comes off on my fingers if I touch it.
I wipe down the seal areas on both stanchions after every ride, but the ring is still coming back after every ride. I’ve had the fork almost a week now?
I took it in to the shop where I bought it from today and they insisted that it was normal for a new fork to squeeze out a bit of oil. When I explained that it was only forming on the right stanchion the mechanic said that was because the right side has more oil in it?
He said that even if he replaced the seal on the stanchion, that it would still be leaking a little bit of fresh oil out.
“you need to keep riding it, it’s brand new,” is pretty much what he said.
Am I being bullshitted or is this safe to just keep riding and not worry about? I’m hoping it will eventually stop forming the ring of oil after enough rides, but I don’t want to completely leak out all the oil and then fry my fork.
Advice?
