Hello everyone. Welcome back to the channel. Hope you’re all well. I’ve got a very cool upgrade for you today. Not necessarily a performance upgrade, although it might add a little bit of front end grip. No, this is a security upgrade. Now, I’ve been quite uh mindful about security, should we say, for quite a while now as I’ve been upgrading my bike. I’ve been as I’ve been going along. And the guys over at Wheelkeep reached out to me and asked me if I would like to try their new uh security device for my bike. Uh had a look at the product, did a bit of research on it. It’s been in development for six years now. It’s had many iterations of the product. It’s nearing the final version. And the final version is out for release in September. So I’ve got the prototype before that one, I believe. So very excited. So basically what it is, it’s a device that goes into your fork here. It basically replaces your top cap uh and you install it with the tools that come with it. It has a mobile app that goes on your phone as you’d expect. It’s remarkably light as well. So basically this little device goes into your fork. Uh you’ve got a cap on the top top to charge it there which lasts about 3 months the battery. So with the app you can track your phone. It’s got built-in GPS, Bluetooth, and cellular connectivity. Now, you don’t need a SIM card for this cuz the SIM card is built in. So, you can get some cheap Chinese security devices where you have to buy a SIM card, take the device out every time you want to charge it. Absolute f. So, basically, this installs into your bike and you fit it and you forget it. Apart from when you need to charge it, the app tells you when it needs charging as well, cuz I’ve already downloaded the app. I’ve done a little bit of testing on it so far. Also, there’s a good discount you can get if you want one of these cuz I think this could be game changing. Basically, like I said, it’s uh very close to release now. I can’t believe how solid it is. It’s made of polyomide and glass fiber. Uh but yeah, it’s absolutely rock solid. So also as well because it’s invisible in your top tube not top tube sorry the fork basically uh it’s hard to know it’s there. So if you imagine you get these apple tags that people install in the seat post or wherever it may be it’s easy for a thief to remove that. So this goes into you move the star nut down. The star nut gets pushed down into the tube and then that screws into your star nut cuz this is now your top cap. And then there’s a bolt that goes under the bottom of the fork for extra security that goes star nut’s going to go here. And then another bolt. So for a thief to get rid of that, you’re talking drills and all sorts of like destructive procedures if they were to eat. First of all, they’d have to know about it. And then it’s like, how are you getting that out? If you’re nicking a bike, you’re not going to have drills and be doing all sorts with you, are you? So basically, as soon as you you know your bike’s on the move, your phone gets alerted. I’ve heard the notifications cuz I’ve had them cuz I track this coming from the Netherlands, [Music] uh, which is where it was sent from. So, yeah, I I can confirm it does work and the notifications are very loud. Uh, there’s lots of updates to the app coming apparently as well. So yeah, exciting times and it could be gamechanging for the future of bike security. Now obviously I’ve been testing a 10 grand bike recently. It’s it’s mindblowing how expensive they are and they are a huge target in the UK like bikes cuz obviously if someone gets a bit lapsy at a trail center or like in town wherever do you know what I mean? Thieves are really keen on these bikes and not surprisingly uh because obviously the you can just ride off on them basically. So this essentially wouldn’t stop your bike getting stolen. This is more the recovery side of things. So basically you can track it and it’s already available in Germany is one of the countries. The UK to follow is basically part of the subscription within the app. The uh basic subscription includes the tracking. So that’s your SIM card payment worldwide. No matter where you are in the world, this works on a global network provider. So yeah, in the UK, wherever it may be. And the premium subscription will include insurance for the bike and also recovery of your bike as well. So that be through the police force. So if you imagine someone, even if you had like a cheap Chinese tracker, someone nicks your bike, how are you going to get it back? Are you going to go and knock on some criminal’s house and get it back? I I don’t know about that unless you’ve got a posy of people with you. I I certainly wouldn’t fancy it anyway. But obviously uh with this it gets recovered for you, which is uh for me that’s quite gamechanging in itself. So yeah, let’s have a further look at what’s in the box. There we go. I love the box. It reminds me of kind of when you open an iPhone. Really nice, really nice touch. There it is. So, actually what I’m going to do, I’m going to weigh it and see exactly how much it weighs because obviously anyone weight conscious. He’s obviously thinking, “Oh, I don’t want extra weight on me bike, but it’s in a good place. Extra front front end grip.” So, let’s weigh it. Right. So, let’s see how heavy this bad boy is. So, we got 79 g. That’s fantastic. Let’s put the bolt on, which is going to go on the bottom of it. 80 g. Excellent. Really good. That’s not going to add too much weight. And obviously that’s 80 g of extra front end grip anyway. Fantastic. And obviously with the tradeoff, you’ve got GPS built in, worldwide network without having to change your SIM card, uh recovery, insurance, uh 3 month battery life, so you don’t have to keep uninstalling it like you would an Air Tag or any other sort of similar small cheap device. Uh that’s really good. and you can install it and forget about it apart from the uh charging which will your phone will remind you once every 3 months. So it kind of does all the thinking for you which is what you want and the security alerts are very loud on your phone as well which is exactly what you want. Okay. So, also we’ve got the uh the special little key that goes on top. So, when you’re screwing it down into the uh startup, unless someone’s got got a 3D printer, they’re going to struggle uh getting it off. Do you know what I mean? So, yeah, that’s really well thought of. Charging cable. And then these tools uh are what come with it. Obviously, they’ll probably come a bit different on the final version, but uh basically that goes over your fork. You knock this down with a hammer so it matches that. Once those two are aligned, your star nut is then low enough for that then to fit in and be your top cap. So this new security device is your top cap. Fantastic. And then once that’s installed from there, you’ll put one of your little bolts in there and you’ll screw that down so it’s got security from the bottom as well. Now, what thief’s going to know to take your wheel off, then get find one of these things? It’s just not happening. Uh, and the only way to get rid of the security is to destroy the whole front end of the bike by screwing the fork off or drilling it or hacksawing it off, whatever, angle grinder. It’s just not happening, is it? So, it just massively, massively increases your peace of mind that it’s going to get recovered by the recovery services that are built into the app. police force, however that works out in the UK. It’s already set up in Germany. More info to come on that. Please feel free to reach out to Wheelkeep as well for any more info. I’ll include all the links in the description with all the uh FAQs, all that sort of stuff cuz there’s lots to it. Uh like I said, it’s been in development for six years. And uh what a cool little product. I’m look forward looking forward to do some more long-term testing on it.
