Join me and my friend John on an epic day ride along the stunning coastline of North East England. 🚴‍♂️🌊

In this cycling adventure, we start from Stanley in County Durham, and make our way through Sunderland, Roker, South Shields, and Newcastle — mixing mountain biking with scenic off-road trails and urban paths. John is riding his brand-new Cube Stereo Hybrid 155 SLX e-bike, while I’m on my trusty mountain bike. It’s a perfect day out for riders who love cycling for fun, fitness, and breathtaking views. Whether you’re into e-bikes or just love laid-back scenic cycling, this one’s for you.

We pass iconic coastal landmarks, ride through the famous Jarrow Pedestrian Tunnel, follow the beautiful River Tyne, and finish with a tough climb back to Stanley. Along the way, John shares his thoughts on electric mountain bikes and why his Cube e-MTB has completely changed the way he rides.

There’s plenty of laughs, stunning views, and even a run-in with a cheeky seagull named “Steven” in Marine Park, who tries to steal our chips! 🐦🍟

Whether you’re into mountain biking, leisure cycling, curious about how e-bikes perform on real-world trails, or just love riding for the joy of it, this video is packed with inspiration, coastal scenery, and good vibes.

  1. Your right about the roads not been safe, I ride the roads and drivers have no time for cyclists. I
Id ride the trails but gates do my head in having to get on and off all the time.

  2. I love my eeb but I hardly ever use it because when I get back after my ride it always feels like I have cheated myself of some fitness and leg strength.

  3. I've got an Orbea Wild EBike and it keeps me riding after having degenerative lower back problems and not being able to put the power down when I rode my acoustic bikes.

  4. great ride again – bit of a blast from the past as when i lived in newcastle in the early 90s – i did a similar loop (but in reverse..) from newcastle to north shields, then the ferry to south shields, then to sunderland, then to fatfield, then to consett, then back home via derwent walk… about 65 miles, but i only had a newcastle A-Z and knew the aprox route, first time i got lost at fatfield and ended up @ finchale abbey! was done in…think i only a pint of milk and a mars bar… but i managed to do the loop a second time a few months later 🙂

don't think there was any specific trail names from sunderland really, just the ones like deerness and derwent walk etc!

I've got an emtb myself – a canyon full sus, bought it back in april 2021 after a gruelling ride up crawleyside bank in freezing conditions on a normal mtb..

  5. Hey,, great ride boys some of my favourite local routes there ,,just seeing as you like the coast route have you ever done the hartlepool one ,,,can either get the train to hartlepool and ride all way back to Sunderland along the cliff tops trail amazing scenery and beaches or you can do it vice versa then join onto the Stockton bike lines

  6. Another one of my regular rides, apart from the Stanley bit as I already live on the coast just south of your route. I was born and grew up in Roker, thanks for giving it the maggie seal of approval 😁👍 (tell John I can get him VIP tickets for the Stadium … 🤣🤣🤣)
Great video Lee and top humour 🚲👌🙂👍
