Get Into Cycling Cheat Sheet
This was a really challenging video to make only a couple of minutes long, there are so many variables, budgets, and starting points that trying to make a guide that works for everyone is basically impossible. So this is very much aimed at someone who’s looking to take cycling a bit more seriously.
I did think about adding second-hand bikes, but a lot of people in the UK have access to the Cycle to Work scheme, which gives you 25–40% off through a government voucher. If you can get that, then something like the bike in the video is a great shout. If not, then I’d 100% recommend checking eBay or Facebook Marketplace for a second-hand bike.
For reference, the female version of the Giant bike is called the Liv Devote.
I’m not gonna pretend that £1,000+ on a bike is doable for everyone—I really wish there were better, cheaper options. The Cycle to Work discount can make a big difference, but I totally get that it’s still out of reach for some.
But if you do have the money and you’re just wondering if it’s worth it—I honestly can’t recommend investing in cycling enough. It completely changed my life, and it might just do the same for you!
I think I might also make a longer YouTube video to dive into some of this more.

I wouldn‘t get the decathöon bike. Better get the Canyon Endurace 7 (for a bit more) or the Endurace 6 (for less). I worked as a bike mechanic at decathlon and a lot of their frames have reeeeally bad quality control…
What do us in America do instead of Decathlon products?
Solid bike. But how would you upgrade the brakes. Doesn’t make much sense I think
I would never ever recommend decathlon shorts for women. I had them as my first shorts and it was an extreme painful experience that almost turned me off from cycling. Get a decent one from maap or lecol or even borrow from a friend/ secondhand. But never a decathlon option. Jerseys are OK on the other hand. Also bottles do not matter, just get any bottle, preferably a free one from any cycling event.
Good vid about baking <3
After suffering from many injuries I would suggest to get a bike fit first, then buy a second hand bike, if you don't know your body well first there's a high chance that you will injured yourself at some point.
I think that it is very hard for a newcomer to spend almost 1000£ a a new hobbie just like that
Lol for shorts/bibs/jersey advice goes like "just buy whatever bc you will never find the perfect kit on the 1st try anyway"
Also buying $1500 bikes when the full carbon 2025 Cube Attain costs just 1700
Shoes are something I would never buy 2nd hand 🤮
This is so so helpful as a student going into cycling! I got my bike on marketplace but things like a helmet I want to get firsthand and on a budget 🙂
And here I am on a €135,- giant tcr. 2×10 ultegra. Was a steal even for a used bike. New tires, cables, brake pads and a handlebar. Rides just fine. 😉
disc brakes is completely unnessecary
Buy the bike is the easy part..using it its actually better
What's a beyk
Bought my 2nd hand BULLS 600 race pro for 300 euro’s 2 weeks ago and its been amazing for me. I only changed the tires from vitoria rubinho to vitoria speed but i really didn’t have to. Have already done 250 kilometers on it. As a new cyclist i would really recoment just buying a bike around this price if you would like to get in to the sport.
Same as trek emonda
.pretty good lol can allways upgrade .but most cyclists are not fit enough for a really good bike. We are all working on it lol 🍺🚴🍺
His last line… investment?!?! What if you don’t like cycling? A simpler bike with rim brakes will cost half as much or less on marketplace, and will lose less value upon purchase than a new bike. Also, to a newbie, disk brakes can be frightening how strong and quick they are. Bottom line, nobody should try any new activity without an advisor of some sort that doesn’t have a financial incentive in your purchases. And more importantly a friend who can protect you from the silly equipment judgments of the others, which is to say, check your motivation to get involved in the first place.
What people who arn’t into cycling don’t understand is that it’s not the bike itself that cost. It’s all the stuff around it.
My Canyon Endurace with shimano 105 from 2015 was less than €1000 new. It has now 33000 km but is in great condition and I would get €450 for it easily. That’s €53 per year. Parts, service, maintenence, clothing etc has cost me many times that. But a good thing with cycling is that you can get decent stuff within a broad buget span. It’s just that we who get hooked must buy and test more stuff 😂
How do I know when I buy bike pants? If they're for women or therefore men. Salesman says doesn't matter😮
I would look to the China based companies for a bike and accessories if I were starting over as a young racer. EBAY is great, too.
La rc520 una gran bici! Consigliatissima!
