It's important to look at the criteria for the survey – the thing that really made Paris stand out in this survey is that they have car free streets around their schools which Amsterdam did poorly on. I was also surprised and slightly suspicious of the statistic used which says Amsterdam has more roads than Paris. but I've not looked into that figure further. At the end of the day though it's important to keep pushing to improve cycling infrastructure!

I mean in Paris itβs barely possible to cycle, especially in the city center.

Because anecdotal it doesnβt look right, also it sounds like a comparison apples to oranges, Amsterdam is about ~900k people, while Paris (just Paris) is something about 3mln, with suburbs tending to how muchβ¦ ten? π
What utter nonsense. I live in Paris. And whats more I have lived in Amsterdam and Copenhagen and i can say from first hand experience that Paris is not bicycle friendly. Not to adults and not to children. Yes there has been significant improvement in cycling infrastructure. But there is also a blatant disregard for cyclists and for cycling lanes. During the Olympics a cycle lane was removed to make way for a VIP car and taxi lane. Vehicles are often parked in cycle lanes. The lanes are discontinuous with hazards like large concrete blocks placed in the lanes. No Iβm sorry to report that Paris has a very long way to go before it can truly be considered cycling friendly. Amsterdam and Copenhagen are just in a different league.
I cycled to Paris last year. I went for a long ride around the city and the country side. I have to say that some parts of the city has very good cycling infrastructure. It was delightful to ride around the city. However, on the major tourist attractions it was a nightmare. Not because the cycling infrastructure is bad, it's because or the sheer amount of people/pedestrians in those areas. Not to mention the French drivers that are well known for their driving style. My next adventure is to cycle to Amisterdan so perhaps I will be able to compare both cities.
