What are trigger points, and why do they cause so much trouble?
In this video, Pavol from Clinical Massage MK explains what trigger points (aka muscle knots) are, how they can cause headaches, neck pain, and even “sciatica”-like pain down the leg—plus why standard massage or stretching doesn’t always solve the problem.
If you’re stuck in a pain cycle, especially with tension headaches or persistent lower back pain, trigger points might be the missing link.

What are the trigger points and why we are so obsessed with them in a clinic? Uh let’s break it down. Think of trigger points like stubborn muscle nodes. Uh they don’t just cause or create pain when you press on them. But I also can refer a pain in different part of your body. Especially when we see in the clinic when we’re treating the headache most of the time the tension types headache even the migraines sometimes start start with the tension types headaches and those coming from the shoulder especially your upper trap. So if you go and palpate, try to find some tension and when you press on it and hope for a little bit longer, you may feel it goes up your neck and even your head and similar things. Uh what we also see in the clinic when you’re treating lower back pain, especially the sciatica is the trigger points in your hips or glutes can refer pain down your leg even cause the neurological pain like sciatica pins and needles. So most of the time what we treat in the clinic is the sero sciatica which means is not caused by the pinch nerve in your lower back but rather tight hip and glutes and they’re referring the pain down. So if you tried treatment for a headache or sciatica and or some stretches and they didn’t work or even went for a regular massage, the trigger points might be missing the link. And if you would like to see how we can help you in a clinic to treat either headache or sciatica or lower back pain, you can drop us a me message or book an appointment and we happy to help you out.
