so welcome to today’s episode we’re on the monster trail today eight and a half I think it is eight and a half miles of uh pure cycle Bliss it’s an Old Railway line I think it’s the London to Manchester line the Midland line which probably ceased in what 1968 I think it would be uh but yeah it’s it’s now I think it’s National cycle way so I did see a route number but I didn’t quite make it I went past it too quick I’ll drop it on the screen now if uh I’m sure plenty of you have already ridden this wonderful little journey right let’s crack on and get through some of these tunnels [Music] [Music] [Music] Nice Bridge so when I took the bike into giant who Jimmy to look at I knew there was going to be problems I knew it was bottom bracket I knew it was a cassette and it was a chain uh so yeah he’s replaced them for me re-greased the rest of the bike silver surface I think it ought to be so yeah it is brand new lots of people today should have done it this morning really a bit of a headwind going out so that can only mean good thing so on the way back [Music] thank you I never know who’s uh the Canyon’s been delayed by a month which is unfortunate because I was going to take it to Spain we’re off to Spain in April so now I’m gonna have to hire a bike still no loss should still be good fun I must say though it is quite nice to see so many people out and about [Music] [Applause] it’s a bit dark in there and it I should really have robber lights we’ve only got the rear one on today I haven’t got some more of these oh the light at the end of the tunnel there we go that’s the first one it will be an absolute crime not to stop here and have a look see this is where I’ve got every fake on my GoPro equipment because I’m hanging over a big truck and it’s going to be at least 10-15 minutes before I can go fetch it foreign [Music] it’s amazing it really is you you go like 200 feet and it’s just like wow landscape love it I really do love it [Applause] [Music] foreign with most things at the beginning and the end it’s busy with pedestrians Walkers dog walkers children cyclists and all sorts but so in the middle but it’s empty because it’s just too far to walk from I suppose but yeah these tunnels are fantastic we’ve got another one coming up right here as well this one is a lesson tunnel oh look someone’s got lights on certainly makes a change Christmas [Music] it’s fascinating isn’t it the tunnels and the train stations along this route it’s in a town sort of spring up with it as well the industry going back imagine to the 19th century [Music] I mean obviously 1968 I think it closed the line I wonder why really let’s meet up [Music] [Music] just one of the many sites you will see [Music] Sony is a long way down [Music] no I’ve done abstain before I’m not gonna do it again I think she made it I can’t quite see around the bridge unless she’s just dangling at the bottom I don’t know I’m guessing she made it because he’s pulling the Rope back up you tour tunnel it’s much nicer smoother running as well although you can’t see absolutely nothing on this sir on this camera I think I’ve took it a horse although the end of the time was there yeah beep beep we’ve got another tunnel straight away afterwards Fantastic look at this so this one is uh chi tool number two tunnel a little bit smaller of course no lights in this one I’ve lost count how many tunnels that is five maybe five times I’m not sure there’s only another one look I’ve already I’ve lost count with the tunnels now six Now isn’t it with this one ah here we go Russia cutting tunnel [Music] yeah I feel my uh my Strava entry is going to be extremely slow I don’t care I really don’t care it’s been absolutely delightful riding this rock I think it’s absolutely awesome some people get annoyed with the pedestrians especially if you’re in a hurry but uh I’m in no particular rush today so it’s been absolutely fantastic I love seeing people out walking I think it’s families great and um there’s lots of cyclists as well which is awesome thank you very much for viewing today if you do like what you see please do drop me a like drop me a comment if you’ve uh if you’ve read in this trailer as well any of your favorite parts of it or any memories from it yeah drop drop me in the comments they’ll be good to read and uh yeah hit the Subscribe button if you haven’t already I will see you in the next video bye-bye

  1. Did that trail last year. I followed it on for a couple of miles after it ends at the top. Still the best part was going back down. Keep em coming and see you soon

  2. Excellent ride Tom, nice surface through the tunnels, different to the tunnels near me Oxendon and Kelmarsh they are absolutely full of potholes. Enjoy your week

  3. Did this trail in 2020 – at the height of the pandemic. Still lots of people walking and cycling as able to 'exercise and social distance'. It was summer and we got caught in a thunderstorm – it was raining 'stair-rods' by the view over the bridge near the start of your video. Still a fantastic ride and experience.

  4. Brought back memories. I backpacked this route in July 1974. Don't recall seeing a soul. Just a ballast track bed and no lights in the debris strewn tunnels.

  5. I had a Giant Mountain bike, rebuilt it with hydraulic brakes and new tyres, stripped the forks and rebuilt them, found it as heavy as , hard bike to ride (26" wheels btw). Now got a Specialized Rockhopper Elite, miles better!! Walked a bit of this trail, below it is really nice, drop down after RushupTunnel, great vid btw!! loved it!
