Recently, I decided that I wanted a training bike, something that wouldn’t hurt the bank account. That was the plan, at least…
I wasn’t too worried about the weight, especially because I wanted a bike purely for training. So I chose the Repco Superlite. I’ve had a few. From what I can tell, the 1992 Repco Superlite was a rebadged Giant. It’s nothing special, especially compared to high-end frames like Colnago or Pinarello, which made it perfect as a heavier training machine. For those interested, the frame is double-butted Chromoly 4130.
I did a full resto from the ground up. For starters, I repainted it and rebuilt it with a modern SRAM Force groupset (I already had the derailleurs and crankset). Due to low availability and high prices, it was too expensive to buy a set of rim brake eTap shifters. So I ended up making my own. I took a set of SRAM fixie brake levers and scanned them with my 3D scanner. I then modified the design in CAD to fit a set of Blips.
For the wheelset, I had a set of new Velocity rims built with Novatec hubs to run the SRAM XDR cassette.
Overall, I’m happy with it. A few things still need tuning, but it’s pretty much complete. The weight, including pedals and computer, comes in at 11 kg—perfect for hill repeats.
