*Vulnerable* is a cycle of six movements – tracing a path through fragility, disillusionment, and repetition toward resilience and grace.
I wrote it during the pandemic, for a project on the theme of vulnerability.
It was premiered on a hot summer evening in St. Maria Stuttgart –
at a time when the word “vulnerable” had taken on an entirely new meaning.
The pandemic had stripped away our certainties – physically, socially, and emotionally.
Each movement reflects a psychological stage:
resistance, stagnation, tension, collapse, stillness, and finally: a turning point.
A re-entry into motion. A fragile form of strength.
The work leaves space for improvisation – asking the players to respond, not just perform.
That response, for me, became part of the piece.

*Vulnerable* ist ein sechsteiliger Zyklus –
ein Weg durch seelische Verletzung, Erschöpfung und Erstarrung hin zu neuer Bewegung und Würde.
Entstanden ist das Werk während der Pandemie –
für ein Kunstprojekt zum Thema Verletzlichkeit.
Die Uraufführung fand an einem glühend heißen Sommerabend in der Kirche St. Maria Stuttgart statt –
in einer Zeit, in der das Wort „Verletzlichkeit“ eine neue Tiefe bekam.
Die Pandemie hatte Sicherheiten aufgelöst – körperlich, sozial, seelisch.
Jeder Satz greift eine psychologische Schicht auf:
Abwehr, Stillstand, Spannung, Rückzug, Leere – und schließlich: ein Aufbruch.
Ein zarter Impuls, wieder zu leben.
Das Werk lässt Raum für Improvisation –
die Musiker:innen sind aufgefordert, nicht nur zu spielen, sondern zu antworten.
Diese Antwort wurde für mich Teil der Komposition.
