A short mountain bike ride around Ribblehead and the Cam High Road in the Yorkshire Dales.
Taken from my guidebook https://www.amazon.co.uk/Mountain-Biking-Yorkshire-Dales-Cicerone/dp/1852846763
foreign Yorkshire Dales I’m a Ribble head I’ve got the fired up behind me I’m heading on the road north towards in the direction of anyway this is gear stones and uh this used to be a location where the big cattle fairs in the days of cattle Drovers Scotland should meet here and there’d be a bit of a first I mean selling on cattle the end of the ride I’ll be coming back down there so hopefully I’ll get a bit of a nice Tailwind coming back there yeah foreign nice it’s anyway along this wall come off the tarmac farm truck there used to be a finger post saying by the way up this way but our post is no longer here coming on up here still climbing okay by the size of its Kestrel step behind the hillside this so far towards a finger post there we go right along the mall that way yeah it’s casual hovering above in front of people sorry of course there’s a few of them and then heading in this direction if you’re going up that hill shortly from newbie head pass up there and then basically that’s the cam I felt be coming down that finish looking at Direction so it’s only a good surface tracklist five areas where you get a bit buggy in winter but uh half hard surface for a lot of it foreign and this is the top uh the head basically of Denton Valley so if you go down there it’s dentdale and the valley the village of Dent is halfway along there everything takes you on towards um yeah and by the ways that go up there and then down down makes a nice interesting descent and also goes the Contours around the hillside so I’m gonna go that way today to newbie Head Pass and then up there’s a brighter way I was putting um about 15 years ago or something it goes up the hill to the camp High Road and that is where we’ve come from there’s a Broadway going up that hill that’s actually part of the pen end right away so if you can follow that all the way to um Kirby Stephen going north I’m actually going this way it’s an overhead pass I’m picking up the Penang by the way as it goes all that way that was nicely in it but it’s nearly laid bit of time okay very nice so pit sort about Penang by the way says cold keld gate that’s right and so there might be some motorbikes looking about thank you zingleber down there shrouded in clouds fairly low cloud-based today foreign again so we’ve turned Northeast [Applause] steep a slug up here getting everything just keep going in it okay just seize the touch continue into a wind my way up this hill [Applause] it’s come from that way definitely reached Cloud height we’re gonna go for this gate to the SEC it’s nice how we stay at Woodland Trust some steak’s been hammered in here there’s gonna be some trees Planters which would be nice mistakes here defense posts you might fence off the path and potentially keep the grazers out if the pantry is here it’s a guess that’s what you’re doing it’s a bit Bleak in this car it seems like the uh seasons of switch this week come from uh summer towards them and uh last two weeks good morning sunshine seems to be uh the end of the summer so we’ll see what next few weeks brings okay there’s lovely views it’s circular currently 570 meters above sea level in the cloud and down this way now headed southerly Direction hopefully that wind will give me a bit of a push now [Applause] [Music] and I’m by the way poster cheers thank you [Applause] [Applause] foreign by the way the Green Valley in front to the left is riversdale this is the river Ribble goes down there let’s see there’s a signpost here probably by the way come Woodlands heading down that forestry road which is actually although it doesn’t look particularly inspiring riding is quite a useful link up to the bird away over that side of the Woods that’s not always been there unfortunately within the last 10 years uh we’ve got plenty of permission to turn this into a forestry Access Road well this is a historic um Roman Road and Georgian Turnpike Road what’s the history in this it’s been completely smoothed over and gravel gravelized going through a better ways it’s not very good work it seems to have lost its historical character for me still stunning setting moving oh there’s another cash flow off to my left amongst these crows Nationals out many other Birds of Prey I can Harry is in the culture whales unfortunately it’s used to uh well execution forward Viaduct is just coming into view that’s all right carrying on just move off a little bit of space station is in front and here we come in bike cheers guys thank you corner the wind was pushing me towards the edge of that corner I’ll win but it’s a bit uh dodgy that bit it’s got bridge in here and that’s Bridget never used to be here but in when the uh obviously works Societies in this world that’s where we’ve come from it’s the cam High Road left the summage right to the end of the ride really but someone to the day is cheddar salad and Mayo so looking forward to this yeah that is good quite a short ride today so I didn’t really need it on the way around but good to finish with a butty at the end but we’re turning to the car now a nice short ride good for the legs and lungs just what I needed to build Fitness again that technique better climbing in that one ride probably enjoyed it well thanks for watching and we’ll catch you next time

I just saw this ride…very enjoyable to be in the soft saddle! Fond memories of this area from my time there (I worked at The Dukes Playhouse in Lancaster) in the early 80's…I will check to the other videos…Not a rider, age 70 but thinking seriously of a trekking e bike…what is your bike? Also, a favourite book, now out of print, "Between Ribble and Lune" by David Pownall….such a special land…and people.
Nice vid mate 👍
Where did you find the weather for this? 😠Love to hear the motivation, Ian. Well done for coming back!

Hi Ian, I've recently discovered your videos and getting some good ideas from you as I'm based in your area with the Lakes and Dales on either side. A lot of good stuff!
Hi Ian. Great vid/trail.
Would you share the GPX file?
You have some great tails I’d like to try.
Kind regards Karl
Did I see you below the aqueduct last week at Lancaster?
