The town is located near the Zugspitze, Germany’s highest mountain, which can be reached by cogwheel train and cable car at a height of 2,962 meters.

I was stationed there (U.S. Army) for 3+ years in the 1980s. My daughter was born there. I lived in the Breitenau housing area with a wonderful view of Zugspitze. I climbed it (starting at Partnach Klamm) twice with mountaineering groups. Loved it there!
