The Monsal Trail is a traffic-free route for walkers, runners, cyclists, horse riders and wheelchair users through spectacular limestone dales with incredible views from places like the iconic Headstone Viaduct (as often seen from Monsal Head).

With an easy access free car park, this place is a dream to visit. There’s bike hire if you don’t have your own. The trail is a dis-used train track but now a public trail path for walking, biking, running etc.

It’s not circular so you have to come back on yourself, which is fine. The best bit is going in the huge tunnel which you’ll see near the end. The kids loved it. No hills, just a smooth flat path to follow. Coffee/food shops at intervals so you won’t go hungry. The kids loved it!!
