Squashed insects aside, a perfect day for a ride through the Wiltshire countryside to the quiet village of Aldbourne — once the temporary home of Easy Company, 101st Airborne Division, before they parachuted into Normandy on D-Day. Made famous by the excellent TV series, ‘Band of Brothers’ – if you haven’t seen it, it’s well worth a watch.

  2. Thanks Nige. You’re right….I’ve just looked at the video again and that bug does look like it’s flying in front of my helmet. Hilarious! 😂😂😂

  3. Great post mate, beautiful village, quintessentially British with amazing history, I like many was obsessed with Band of brothers, I grew up in East Sussex in the centre of the training grounds that were used in prep for Overlord, & my hobby as a young teen was metal detecting, oh the things we found haha..I saw the spirit of Easy company was flying with you on the camera, Could you hear a little shout of Currahee in your right ear 😅

  4. I grew up in Salisbury, lived here most of my life (apart from 20 years in Shaftesbury between 1994-2014, but it's not too far away!) and have ridden/driven across Salisbury Plain countless times over the years – and I think I've only ever once seen a tank using a tank crossing 😂
