Episode 44 – 2 friends, 2 Brompton folding bikes:
Heading to Toronto by train Friends, we’re off on a new adventure. Chouchou is in the trailer. Now, let’s put the wheels on and head to Marie-Luce’s whom you know from the video on the little train of the North. Hello! (Episode 41: Micro adventure in Quebec with the Vincita Big Nash Rack Bag) yes, it’s my friend Marie-Luce. Hi, nice to meet you everyone! I think we’re ready to go. I’m a little hot Here we go. Chouchou Chubby Chouchou Lady Chouchou Archie Let’s go, we’re off for 30 minutes of cycling. Subscribe Friends, I’m going uphill, as usual, I always take out the camera at the right time. On your right, you have traffic jams at the foot of Mount Royal. It’s 4:30 p.m. on your left, you have people chilling at Jeanne-Mance Park. Isn’t that cute! Come on, come on, come on! Come on! I have to move my ass and my head Always riding light. Hi! Wasn’t that too intense? It’s okay, it was the sport of the day. Lady, Marie’s new bike for this new adventure I’m going to try to wear blue shoes that will match. It’s beautiful. 7-star Brompton folding lesson for Marie-Luce 1st step we press here, here. So be careful! Yes, yes, to get this wheel underneath. Ah ok, so here, I press and I lift. There you go! Wow Great! You can unscrew that. Look, you You see, you have the little hook and the little hook,
it’s going to go here wait which hook? Here Ah yes, ok so it has to lift up actually. Normally there, you lift it and you put it here? Yeah. Once you’ve put the wheel on, you can lower the saddle,
that will lock it. Great! There you go! And then you have the second attachment And him, you can, either you accompany him, or you give him, he has to go there. In fact, he will It will close by itself? Yes. In fact, you press and you lift Oh my God! There you go! Let’s go home, Lady! Here we go! Oh what is it? What burst? Shit Are we far from the station? It’s my tire that burst Shit So that’s really the best! No, but it burst! It hasn’t even deflated. But that’s what makes me feel weird and I’m thinking that there might be something with the tire. Okay, I’m going to do the intro now. Good morning, friends. I wanted to do the intro later, but it will be now. We are me and my friend Marie-Luce Hello We are on an adventure. We are off to spend a weekend in Toronto and Niagara with the Brompton Archie and Lady Framboise. And there, I was going down the avenue to get to the station and well, my inner tube just exploded on Archie. so since 2020, here’s the first bad luck. It’s not bad, honestly, in four years. Right now, we’re going to take the train, so it’s not a problem. But then, when we get to Toronto,
it’s going to be more of a problem. But there’s no problem. But there’s no problem. There are only solutions. Now we arrive at the station, we’re going to take the little train. And we’re going to say to ourselves, yes,
everything’s going to be fine. The bikes are packed. And we’re going to line up. Good morning, friends. We’re on the train. We’re on the first train to Ottawa. We’re changing afterward for another train, heading for Toronto. And we thought about why something bad happened to us this morning with the tire, which hasn’t happened to Archie in four years. It’s because it’s Friday the 13th. and so maybe there will be other adventures,
we’re not going to be bored. We never get bored. Well, what is it in the end it’s not very serious. We are in the new carriages of Via Rail, the Canadian train company and in fact it’s brand new. We put the bike at the other end of the carriage and in fact there is a lot of space in the train the little coffee that arrives like in the plane but yes it’s so good And we were saying besides that it’s better when he comes with the coffee like that, instead of getting up to go to the bar car like in France because, it means that you have to take your things every time when you are alone, whereas here they come to you and that’s great like in Spain too. We like that. We get chocolate again. Now, we just left the island of Montreal It took us 40 minutes to get off the island. We’re in the middle of the fields with the sunrise It’s magnificent. So, the toilets? Well, I’m going to make a little assessment everything went well. But I didn’t go into the super modern toilets. Wait, I’m going to see how they’re designed for the disabled. Oh, a bedroom. It’s incredible! Bedroom bathroom it’s at least a three-room apartment here. How many bikes can you fit in there? At least 8 10 Bromptons. Friends, we’re in the Ottawa station, which is, well, very modern, very modern. You can see that there aren’t many travelers, you can see that there aren’t many trains that pass
through this station. It’s not dilapidated at all. It’s spotless, great. You could lick the floor, it’s so clean. Well, here we are at the little cafe and we have an hour’s wait, we’re still eating and we’re still eating sugar to keep going because it’s going to be a long day. Our next train is in an hour for Toronto anyway, it’s not complicated, here, we’re not afraid of getting lost or not finding the right platform because there are only four and they’re all on the ground floor, it’s not like in Madrid where you have to go up,
down and you get lost. Here, there are four four platforms and you’re already on the platform. and there are two destinations there are two destinations, we don’t go very far. It’s a beautiful building, eh. It’s well lit. Tell us all about the experience of the restrooms
at the Ottawa station, so a very good experience, still very clean. Yes, that’s it, honestly here, everything is often very clean. even the toilets on the train, I don’t really like train toilets sometimes and there, I’ll sleep there, I’ll put a mattress here, you can spend your whole trip in it. Friends, we’re on the train, heading for Toronto. We’re comfortable. We have little outlets here, a little charging station, we have little vomit bags We have suppositories. I took suppositories in my toiletry bag. If we’re ever sick, we have suppositories. For me, suppositories sometimes save my life, you know everything, you know, let’s say you’re sick, you have indigestion, you can’t swallow anything. Well, since I discovered suppositories it’s life, I swear if you go with me, a little suppository and hop there, a little suppository on the train and we’re off again. Well, we’re in the countryside, we’re in the little ones we’re in the little trees, the little fir trees, it’s cute. There are small curtains, I didn’t demonstrate, there is a small iron rod, a metal rod and so it makes it easier to pull the curtain but since I like to have the light I’m going to move it but it’s very practical, it avoids pulling it all at once. We arrive in Toronto at 2 p.m. if the train is on time obviously. Anything is possible on this day. It’s Friday the 13th The day started very very well. I say, I open the chocolate bar I don’t give a damn. Nuts and a square of chocolate, it’s the best. The long-awaited moment has arrived sandwiches carefully prepared by Marie-Luce a sandwitch veggie pâté veggie pâté is very popular in Canada. Salad, cheese, tomatoes. Well I want to say bon appétit! Bon appétit to you friends. Look friends so this is the small tire damage it’s there. In fact, it’s here. Voilà let’s go! Honestly, it’s nice, I’d say it’s 25 degrees, even more. It’s perfect but I didn’t take my short we have sunscreen, we have suppositories we have everything we need. We just arrived at the apartment we found. In fact, we didn’t the apartment it’s an exchange, we’re trying HomeExchange. Marie-Luce has had several experiences in Barcelona and even in her apartment. And there you go, I’m discovering this, it’s really great. So here, it’s the person who welcomes us to her home in Toronto, who left us a little, a little description of each thing with places where we should go for groceries, little chocolates, I love it it’s so cute. Hello, how are you? I’m coming to visit you I’m very happy because my friend Kristin told me a lot about you and today I have an emergency We live in Montreal before arriving at the station my inner tube exploded in the street so if you have time I need your help because I know changing a Marathon Plus tire
takes a lot of time for me. This bike is from 2020 and in 4 years in 4 years this is my only problem and my first problem is today but it’s good because we met you and it’s perfect. Thank you so much Brompton shop hospital Hi, how are you? Glad to see you yes so cool! Oh is it Archie? yes it’s Archie but you also had another bike right? and Lady Framboise that I lent to my friend Marie-Luce my best friend that’s why I bought another Brompton to invite my friends and tell them ok come with me in my crazy adventures. So cool! With Toronto friends Trillium Park The view is wonderful! Thank you so much Kristin So welcome you are so kind Be careful be careful to get home I will be so careful be safe and it was a great pleasure so good to see you bye bye Kristin. Oh, look at these little chouchous there. We just got back, finished the day to finish with a little Brompton ride with Brompton friends
from Toronto. There were some that you have already seen in my videos because either they came to Montreal, or I had seen them on a first bike trip when I did Toronto-Montreal where they had organized a ride for me. It was a cool moment at the Park with a beautiful view of the city in the distance it was a good choice, so that we could see the view. So it was really really nice with new people too. Chouchou Archie was successfully repaired by Tim from the Pedaal shop in Toronto. They are really great. If you come to Toronto, I really recommend you go see them. It’s a Brompton shop and cafe, so they sell Brompton. They repair Brompton, there are also cargo bikes. After talking to other people who have had tire problems and all that while traveling, I think it’s good to take an extra tire because sometimes sixteen-inch tires,
well, here we were in Toronto, it’s perfect, but they aren’t everywhere, especially in the depths of the pampas. Thanks to Pedaal for taking the emergency Brompton. I had called them before and he said yes, come on, no problem so that’s cool, it’s reassuring and afterward, we were able to participate in the ride,
so that was good. We ended up going back with Kristin who was our guide to accompany us back to the apartment. On the other hand, it’s true that in Toronto,
there we had a first glimpse. I don’t remember anymore but the cars, compared to Montreal, in Montreal, cars are not allowed to turn right at red lights when it’s a red light in Montreal, cars have to stop, it’s normal, you tell me. Outside of Montreal, in Quebec, you can turn when it’s a red light and there are no other cars, cars can turn right and it’s the same in Toronto. So it’s true that for bikes, you have to be careful. Right now, we’re in pajama mode it’s really a big job, we’re on a big job. Life is really not easy. So we’re going to make a little program for tomorrow, but I think we’ll be more in chill mode in front of Toronto, there’s an island called Toronto Islands. We can take a ferry to go there because tomorrow is my birthday, it’s her birthday, not her mother’s. So I’m happy to spend it with you, my dear. Oh, me too. There you go, we’re taking it easy, at our own pace, without the pressure of things to do. Friends, thank you for following us on this first day, it continues , we’ll see you tomorrow and we wish you a good night especially. Hello friends, good morning in Toronto Look at the beautiful day. We are at the beginning of Chinatown. That’s where we’re staying in our little apartment. Look excuse me the CN tower, it’s in the fog Ah, it’s in the fog there. The CN Tower, it’s so beautiful today, magnificent weather today, friends. Hi! We’re fresh. We start the day it’s 11 o’clock lol I said merci, why do I say merci I said merci but they don’t understand merci here it’s thank you In fact, here, they call it streetcar I love it So friends, we’re going to the ferry terminal. Because in front of Toronto, there’s an island called Toronto Islands and
we’re going to take a little tour of the island. So we took a ticket online on the phone. It costs $11 and it’s a round trip. Lots of people. Chouchou look at Chouchou! Are you okay? Are you okay there? Are you okay there? Finally, it’s okay. Look at the beautiful Marathon tire It is shiny, it is shiny it’s the Marathon Green High-quality installation of my new Click-Stand kickstand
adapted to the Brompton High-quality uninstallation of my new Click-Stand kickstand
adapted to the Brompton Friends, we are on Toronto Islands. We arrived by Hanlan’s Point. At first, we were behind everyone else, but then
we followed the line of bikes. Always following the life of the bikes. That’s what I recommend. We’re here. But actually, there are other boats that take you here and there. So it’s cool because you can really go all around and then stop. There are lighthouses, there are artist residences, it looks really cool, we’re going to go and discover that. The people are equipped, they have the cooler,
they have the umbrellas, but yet it’s not 30 degrees there. Friends! Oh the little refreshment bar, the little toilets, there are toilets everywhere! It’s great! It’s so good in Canada, it’s awesome, we never have to worry. Even yesterday when we came back
from the ride with the Toronto Brompton Club there were toilets. What more do you want friends, this time, I’m not in Hamburg to celebrate my birthday. I’m in Toronto. It’s her birthday, it’s not your mother’s And so here we are, it’s September 14th. And we’re on this beautiful island, Toronto Islands, and
it’s going to be a beautiful day. It started off well with sunshine, but it’s okay. It’s going to rise. Yes, that’s it. Oh, the little Rosalie (Quadricycle)! Look, these people seems to have a good experience On the other hand, you have to pedal, eh?
It’s better with three or four because with two you don’t go very fast on this thing. It must be heavy too, but it’s fun, it’s fun. I can go see if you want, because if it’s not interesting, we’re leaving, they’re having a party on the beach, you didn’t bring your swimsuit. It’s great! Oh, we’re at the sea! But it’s Lake Ontario in fact, it’s as if it were the sea. It’s so cool! I love it I love it Over there, in the background, we can guess
a little bit about Toronto It’s in the fog. And in fact, friends, it’s also a nudist beach. No problem. There was a woman who wasn’t expecting it, she said: Oh my god! There are people dressed up and there are people not dressed up. You have to know that. But it was a beautiful little place. There you go, it’s good to feel free. I wouldn’t do that, but It’s good to accept yourself. Friends, on the island, there are people who live there and I know that there are quite a few artists, painters who exhibit and who have a house on the island. What more can you ask for? That’s the question. Simple things, friends, for my birthday, that’s all. A quiet day, I like that, those things suit me. In good company. Beautiful landscapes, people chilling out
and doing the Rosalie, it’s so good. The CN Tower (553 m) The toilets in Canada, friends, I’ll never stop repeating it. It’s perfect. We type washroom into Google, they’re everywhere. Here we go! Distillery District Little show very great little ice cream, little coffee. We made a little schedule for tomorrow. Because friends, for tomorrow, you’re not at the end of your surprises, the adventure continues. We’re taking the train again and we’re going to Niagara Falls. Niagara Falls, friends, tomorrow. Way too many adventures in four days. Happy birthday! Thank you so much! Friends, we’re innovating, we’re going to eat
cold Asian noodles but hot Because we do what we want. Yeah, for us, there’s no one who’s going to tell us what to do. After the CN Tower, I didn’t film too much, but we went downtown, a bit like the equivalent of Times Square in New York. But in Toronto, there were too many people. We bought things. We buy useful things. little slippers because I love socks we bought socks socks Then when we left the store, we went to the LCBO liquor store obviously, I bought pineapple soju (Korean alcohol) flavored soju. There was a whole range of soju you want some here It’s burning. When we left there, there were people there were way too many people. There was too much stimulation. We had to get out, too many cars, too many cars in this city. Then we went home, we put on gougoune (quebec word) flip-flops that and we went grocery shopping. We’re going to make a little meal relax. Let’s make life easier. We don’t have chopsticks. There are no chopsticks. What are we going to do? Are we going to get lost there? Let’s go over there and don’t forget the little San Pelegrino. I say it’s important to enjoy life. We have suppositories, obviously, if we need them for dessert. Okay, on that note, I wish you bon appétit, We’re going to eat now. Look at the little living room there! It’s so good! Oh damn, it was low. What could be better? Health, happiness happy birthday thank you very much, thank you for this day, It was a beautiful day. I’ll give you a little soju to taste The little Japanese cheesecake. Attention, are you ready? Oh la la la la la la la la! Happy birthday Happy birthday Aurélie Happy birthday! Thank you for everything, thank you for the beautiful gifts. I had a surprise Look a beautiful pencil case Made by Marie-Luce. Look, how beautiful it is with a lining, she’s an artist. with beautiful fabric and burlap. This is a wonderful gift that took a lot of hours of work. I’m making a little wish Did you have 15 minutes? Thank you for everything! It’s less filling than a real cream cake, it’s not too sweet, really perfect. It’s really good! This pastry is in Montreal also, oh yeah? Uncle Tetsu, it’s called. It’s a Japanese pastry shop? Yes, and they only make cheesecakes. Oh yeah? Yes. What did you do in Toronto? We visited the restrooms and ate Japanese food. Okay. And we didn’t need the suppositories. We didn’t need them. Do you think you’ll have your next birthday in South Korea? Oh my god! Much more in the high tones please Oh my god! Okay, I’ll do it again. Oh my god! The first oh my god! Come on, Kevin, come on, Kevin! Is that a seaplane? Is it going to land in the water? Oh la la and there and there we hold the spot we are there for the show, we want views!

  4. What a lovely video! It was so nice to visit with you in Toronto last year, and we're so excited to be coming to Montreal again this year! See you soon, Brompton friend!

  5. Thanks for the new episode. Also, a very belated happy birthday to you as well!

I think the last time I was on Toronto Island was in 1969 and it was beautiful then. I was glad to see that that hasn’t changed. I did not know about the nude bathing beach, perhaps that is a more recent innovation.

I was happy that you got the flat tire resolved so quickly it didn’t spoil the trip.

By the way, I did wonder why you bought the second Brompton and was pleased to hear that you did so so friends could join you on your adventures. That’s a great idea

    -Cliff.
