92 kilometers to go in this ninth stage of the Giro d’Italia. The long-awaited, much-revised stage, the one with the white roads. We head towards Siena, its legendary finish, the Via Santa Caterina and its gradients that will lead to the Piazza del Campo. A legendary finish, a magical finish, but before that, we’ll have to tackle the 30 kilometers of the stony section, those paths that made the Stadio Bianche famous. It’s off with our six leaders, who open the road from kilometer zero. And a long section, as we can see, eight kilometers. But in 1 minute 40 seconds, the peloton’s point of impact. And then, it’s going to be something, like a Flemish classic, when we reach the first hill. Look, they’re all sprinting. Ben Turner to put Egan Bernal already in second place. There’s no Van Aert. Affini is there to protect Yates, but Van Aert isn’t in Affini’s wheel, he’s a little further back. And it’s going to fork. Watch out, we’re coming in a bit too fast. It’s happening for all the riders. Gianni Moscon is taking the lead in this stony sector for the peloton. We were able to make a good comeback at the last moment for quite a few leaders. We’ll have to limit the damage for Diego Ulissi, because right now, it looks difficult for the one wearing the pink jersey. Much too far back. I think he’s already understood that he won’t be keeping the pink jersey. We’re 66 kilometers from the finish, it’s hard to say, but I think he’s obviously got the toxins from the day before in his legs. The six leaders who have transformed into a trio, including Quinten Hermans, obviously the most comfortable on his stony paths. Luke Lamperti and Taco van der Hoorn, only 53 seconds ahead. There are still a little over four kilometers left on this first stony section. There are already breaks. Juan Ayuso is at his limit. Now, he’s going to make an effort. Tom Pidcock, Mads Pedersen in the front positions, there are 20, 30 of them at most. So, where is Primož Roglič? I have the feeling that Pidcock is ready to make one. It would be huge. It would be huge. 64 kilometers from the finish, to expose himself. Look, there, it’s cracking. We already saw Storer caught in a break. The pace is hellish. Pedersen, what he’s doing is huge. Storer’s crash. We’re announced on Radio Course. Ouch, ouch, ouch, ouch, ouch, ouch, ouch, ouch, as we enter the sector. Look, we’re at the back, on the left. Yes, it must be at the back of this… It’s not Storer. Yes, it’s with his teammate. Led by his teammate. Oh dear! What a shame for the Australian rider who had joined the right group. It’s over for Mads Pedersen. It’s going to be Vachek’s time now. Is there a mechanical problem for Mads Pedersen or is he just a little bit of a leg problem? Yeah, a little bit of a leg problem. I think he still made a more than violent effort in the last 15 minutes. We’re in the heart of the second sector. The UAE team is getting back into position. Everyone is flexing their muscles. The teammates are in action. Pello Bilbao, Wout van Aert who has in his wheel, Simon Yates. We’re also getting back into position for Ben Turner, with Brandon Rivera in the wheel. We’re trying to hang on for George Tarling, who’s slightly behind. He’s been working hard. For now, the leaders are trapped, we find Max Poole, who’s a little further back, but also. Crash! Crash!
Direct. In this corner. Whoa! Yes. Primož Roglič! But also Isaac Del Toro. And Pidcock. And Thomas Pidcock. It’s Brandon McNulty who’s fallen. Brandon McNulty is on the right, we also find an Ineos who made a mistake just before this descent. And remember, Roglic and Pidcock don’t have a teammate, so that’s why they got back up quickly. Apparently, no mechanical failure. Only Lucas Hamilton is stuck there. The Australian rider, teammate of this team, Ineos. And there, we have this very steep descent. There, it’s Isaac Del Toro, perhaps, who is doing the descent. There, it’s technical. There will be Primoz Roglic who fell, who will have to make the effort on this descent. It completely exploded. It completely exploded. And there, Egan Bernal with two teammates. As a result of this fall, Egan Bernal is placed at the front of the peloton and well escorted. And then, we are informed of a puncture on the descent of one of the leaders, the leader of Team Israel, Derek Gee, who has just suffered a puncture. He who was in the group of favorites. Who didn’t have a teammate at his side. And it’s Isaac Del Toro who, it seems, can play his card and continues to accelerate at the front. And the Inéos behind who made the right move. And it’s Pello Bilbao who is now working in this group, just in front of Antonio Tiberi. Bernal with two teammates who is catching up with Isaac Del Toro. There’s no Primoz Roglic yet. No. He should be there. He is there, Primoz Roglic. With Pidcock. Fortunately, there are teammates catching up behind. We should be aware. Where is Pidcock? A combination of circumstances with Primoz Roglic riding, Timo Kielich in the wheel. A teammate of Pidcock, in fact, just behind. Giulio Pellizzari is telling him: “Hurry up and get back.” The Italian is making a big effort to try to get back to his leader. The Tudors trying to flank Storer at the back. 4,400 kilometers still in this second sector. Another new puncture. Oh dear! Dramatic turn of events in the heart of this second sector. Primoz Roglic, victim of a mechanical problem. And this could be very costly in this 108th edition of the Giro d’Italia. He’ll have to take the bike, perhaps belonging to Giulio Pellizzari, but much taller. He can’t get on Pellizzari’s bike. He’s much too tall, so he has to wait for his car. Bad luck strikes Primoz Roglic again. We’re 700 meters from the exit of the second sector. Roglic needs help. There, you see 1’10, he’ll leave with 1’20, 1’30. Good luck, Pellizzari. Afterwards, we might find other teammates who should be in the second, third, or even fourth echelon. The chase will begin from now on. We’ll have to save Private Roglic in this stage. And up front, we’re not asking any questions. Thymen Arensman is taking over from Brandon Rivera. We’re giving 100% for the INEOS team around Egan Bernal. We’re leading the way with Wout Van Aert, Quinten Hermans, Kaden Groves, but also Isaac Del Toro, who managed to catch the right wagon. Just behind, we find a group around Juan Ayuso. Yes, Radio Course is reporting another puncture, and one of today’s favorites, Pidcock, has just suffered a puncture after Roglic. Pidcock, too, two incidents in a short space of time. Definitely bad luck for these two who suffered the crash and the puncture. Van Aert is hanging on. Bernal, Arensman, Isaac Del Toro seems very good. The Mexican is on a cushion of air. And finally, Brandon Rivera, who is ensuring the… We’re making a very good move for the Inéos team, triple represented in the leading quintet. The Roglic group with Derek Gee and Tom Pidcock. He’s back. We’re back. We’re going to fall back on Einer Rubio, the leader of the Movistar team. It’s Derek Gee who sets the pace. Forty-seven seconds between the leading quartet and the Ayuso group. We find two men interspersed, Mathias Vacek, Chris Harper. And note that in the Roglic group, we’re losing time. And apparently, there’s only one rider riding in the Roglic group. Only Pellizzari. It’s off to Isaac Del Toro. We’re arriving in the fourth sector, that of Montaperti, the Mexican, with carte blanche. Yes, but for that, he’s absolutely going to have to drop Bernal. That’s the goal. Vachek is holding on. A huge Wout Van Aert who found his legs today on his home turf. Bernal is a little further back. Yes, remember that Vachek made a big chase to get back to the leading quartet. So now, he’s paying for the chase. Bernal has been riding for many kilometers. He too is paying cash for his efforts. Look at the Colombian, he’s going to make the effort, he’s going to try to get back in the wheelhouse of Van Aert and Del Toro. Obviously, if he comes back, the Mexican and the Flemish will not collaborate with the Colombian champion. It’s off to Isaac Del Toro. Come on, he accelerates. Del Toro who accelerates at the same pace. He’s going to try to drop Wout Van Aert who responds. For the moment, the Belgian is in the wheelhouse. Wow, determined. With his gaze, he knows that this is where he can go for Perhaps the pink jersey and the stage. It’s off to Isaac Del Toro. So, Vachek is starting to get a bit stuck and Egan Bernal loses a meter. Wout Van Aert is putting up resistance. He was told by earpiece. OK for the win, OK for the pink jersey, but you absolutely have to let go of Egan Bernal , and finish with Van Aert, no problem, but you have to let go of the Colombian champion. For now, mission accomplished. It’s happening for Isaac Del Toro, who is super-powerful on this ninth stage and is flying away. But watch out because Wout Van Aert seems to have recovered. He’s doing well, the Belgian. Look, he’s hanging on. He’s capable of going very far in the red zone. Wout Van Aert, he’s back and he’s finding his form again. After that, it’s still a long way to go. We’re 1 kilometer 6 from the summit. It’s not certain he’ll limit the Belgian in the wheel of the young Mexican. It’s squeaking, but it’s not letting go for Wout Van Aert. He’s capable of hurting himself. The main percentages are over. We’re going to find a moment to breathe. Isaac Del Toro continues. He’ll take stock by looking behind. Bernal is in distress, even Vachek is above. There, we’ll go to the arch, there’s no problem. We’ll have a little bang. It’s after the little bang that things can get complicated for the Belgian. It’s the type of effort that normally suits him , Wout Van Aert. We feel that he’s recovered anyway since the Pinzuto. It’s tense. This is a stage that will leave its mark. It’s an iconic stage of this 2025 version of Giro d’Italia. Isaac Del Toro enters the lead in this Via Caterina. Wout Van Aert is stuck in his wheel. The Ayuso group is a little further back. We’re going to turn right and there, we’ll have to resist now. It’s lactic, the legs will burn. It’s after this little bang that we’ll find ourselves with high percentages. He’s going to accelerate Isaac Del Toro. He knows he has to drop the Belgian over the next 300 meters. Wout Van Aert knows how to hurt himself. For now, he’s staying in his wheel. But be careful not to lose a centimeter because that could be prohibitive for the Belgian rider. For now, it’s holding. For Wout Van Aert. After that, he’ll have to take the lead, obviously, at the bend. It’s burning. It’s burning for Wout Van Aert, but he’s still there. He knows Del Toro is trying to drive the point home. We’re almost at the tipping point. Del Toro’s teeth gritted. Wout Van Aert hurts himself. Both riders are at the rev limiter. It’s hard for both of them. But he did it, Wout Van Aert. He’s tipped the scales. Now we have to finish the job. We’re at the 400 meter mark, we’re going to find some downhill sections. Now Van Aert is tearing it up. Van Aert is turning the tide. He knows this course, he knows this last little right-hander, very technical. He absolutely has to approach it in the lead. It’ll do it for Wout Van Aert. He’s still there. It’s not over. It’s not over. Wout Van Aert who approaches the last 200 meters in the lead. It’s going downhill now, he has a head start. Del Toro for a sprint. It’s a really technical finish. Watch out, this last turn. Here it is, that final bend. Wout Van Aert was on the edge, but it’s okay. He’ll be able to get going again and go for his first victory in 2025. It’s deserved. The Belgian triumphs for the second time in this Piazza Del Campo. Great battle. Bravo, the experience of having done the Strade Bianche several times , and behind among the big favorites, we’ll have some riders in difficulty. Not Ayuso, who isn’t there in the top positions. No, it’s Richard Carapaz, the best. With Giulio Ciccone in the wheel, Simon Yates. A great day for the Visma-Lease a Bike team and Antonio Tiberi. In fourth position. Juan Ayuso, not so bloody. Which goes to show that it’s hard to say who will win this Giro d’Italia. Will we have a change of leadership within this UAE team? In any case, it’s certain, now, Isaac Del Toro will be in pink. Carapaz, who finished very well on this ninth stage. We’ll pick up a few precious seconds on the other outsiders. Giulio Ciccone in the Van Aert curve, who also comes close to licking the railing. There are small bonuses for third place. It’ll be four bonus seconds for Ciccone ahead of Carapaz, Yates, Tiberi. He’s right there, Juan Ayuso, he won’t lose much. A small handful of seconds at the end of himself. The white jersey. It’s okay, Egan Bernal. Bernal, very well. Escorted by Arensman, Adam Yates, the astonishing Edward Planckaert. Now, obviously, we’ll wait for the big loser of the day, Primoz Roglic, who will lose more than a minute to the other favorites of this Giro d’Italia. If he has kept some strength, he will at least have Giulio Pellizzari to thank, who has been a valuable support to him. Look, this image is beautiful, the image of a great champion who doubted so much, who was so criticized this year, but who is going for a prestigious victory today. We saw that the young Mexican would have liked to pull off a double whammy, win the stage, go for the pink jersey. He tried to drop him 600, 700 meters from the finish line, but Wout Van Aert, with his experience, latched onto the young Mexican’s wheel and passed 300 meters from the finish line to take the final turns in the lead. He knew that positioning was important. Wout Van Aert, who enters the very closed circle of those who have won the three grand tours. Tom Pidcock finishes. Where is Primoz Roglic? He is right there, in the wheel of Damiano Caruso. With Derek Gee, also, the leader of Team Israel, who also suffered a puncture. He’ll be more than a minute behind Ciccone, in particular. Primoz Roglic can stick his tongue out. He limited the damage well.

Yes yes yes bravo wout trop contente 🎉🎉
Blessures, chutes, malchance.
2:17 On a vu c't'horreur.
Les chemins ne sont pas empierrées.
