Despite hybrid working, commuting by bike is on the rise in the Netherlands. Mobility agency Shuttle reports a 57% increase in cycle commutes between March 2024 and March 2025 with car use up 44% and public transport up 24%. The bike remains the top choice for trips under 5 km. While ebikes are gaining popularity for longer distances in Amsterdam, where 62% cycle to work, the city is urging cyclists to slow down in parks to preserve peace and safety. A campaign with electronic signs is underway, though its impact is uncertain. A 20 km per hour speed limit is proposed but needs government approval and funding. [Music]
