Hello everyone, my name is Tobias. And my name is Anne. We are pleased that you are with us again today. The two of us are still walking the Palatinate Almond Trail together. Today we are running stages 2 and 3. From Kleinkarlbach to Bad Dürkheim and further to Neustadt an der Weinstraße. We are already in the middle of it, now even on the third stage. And if you want to know what the route is like… …stay with it and we’ll look at it together. Palatinate Almond Trail Stages 2+3 We started in rather dreary weather just outside Kleinkarlbach. The 2nd stage began as the 1st ended. It went along a country road. But: The almond blossom was already much further along than the week before… …when we were on the first stage. So, on the second section of the almond blossom path… No, almond path! I always want to say blossom path… But the flowers are there. We actually have some today. You can still see the old almonds hanging here and there. Now all we need is the sun, but that’s sure to come. Then we’ll move on. After a short time we reached Bobenheim am Berg and walked quickly through it. Because of the route, Anne reveled in memories of past hiking adventures. Bike path, bike path… kilometer after kilometer… Reminds me a bit of sections from the Slovenian… …uh… Juliana Trail. That’s exactly it. And there is the next town: Weisenheim am Berg. On the Almond Trail, you repeatedly pass through villages that impress us with their beautiful old architecture… …and the many backyards, often converted into small wine bars, have always delighted visitors. After the town it became a little quieter, at least for a short time. This is a real blessing now. After walking mostly along a busy road… This one is closed. In other words: We finally have some peace and quiet. In this sense, things are now moving forward in a very relaxed manner. Here, too, there’s wine upon wine. Everywhere, right and left, and everything… the entire plain is paved. Well, the Palatinate is also known for its wine… uh for their wine, logically. By the way, if you think that finding your way along a road is easy… Well, the almond path also had its pitfalls in this regard. Here we have once again a classic case of the marking deviating from the official GPX file. The marking would now have continued along this construction road. The GPX file makes a curve. Since we don’t want to torture ourselves through the construction site now, we’ll continue following the file. The good thing about running a GPX file parallel to the signage is that you don’t get lost. And so we reached the next place on the way: Herxheim am Berg. And there it was again: the busy road. However, it must be acknowledged that there are many almond trees there. Very pretty. By the way, if anyone is wondering why Tobi is traveling without a backpack: the explanation will follow. After Kallstadt came one of the highlights on the almond trail! A partially rebuilt Roman winery. The origins of the villa complex date back to 20 AD. You see: Even the Romans knew that you could grow a good wine in the Palatinate. A little below the villa complex you can still find a Roman wine press. After so much history, Tobi needed a break and enjoyed the view. Finally we arrived at our destination
: Bad Dürkheim. Exactly: in the large parking lot on the outskirts of town. We continued on in beautiful hiking weather in Bad Dürkheim. Under blue skies we first went through the spa park and
from there through the pedestrian zone. Palm trees seem to like it here almost as much as the vines. Outside of Bad Dürkheim we went straight back into the vineyards. In other words: As had begun the day before behind Kallstadt, the path moved slightly away from the road. Always a blessing. Since the path on this section apparently wasn’t good enough for us, we were even offered a section of path. A path! Yay! And because we were so spoiled by the route and the weather… … in Wachenheim we walked a bit along the old city wall… … and from there an almost straight path
up to Wachtenburg, a castle from the 12th century. Behind the castle we went downhill again and then along a bit below it. Here you can see the most beautiful view of the Palatinate vineyards from 2016. The path now continued through vineyards, still away from
the road and with beautiful views. After I had increased the difficulty of the route a little on stage 1, it was Tobi’s turn this time. The famous extra meters of altitude. Which Tobi likes to do voluntarily. Anne is not wrong. On the Almond Trail, elevation gain is a welcome change. Now we reached Königsbach and the quieter hiking was over again. There was a lot going on between Königsbach and the next town on our tour, Gimmeldingen. No wonder with the beautiful almond blossom. In the local Haardt, not so far from the end of the stage, Anne then experienced her pink miracle. I have never sat under such large almond blossoms before. Back there. But we didn’t linger here. We continued on the last few meters to the stage destination
Neustadt an der Weinstraße. The Route The Almond Trail runs from Bockenheim an der Weinstraße along the Palatinate Forest… … to the German Wine Gate in Schweigen-Rechtenbach on
the German-French border. Stage 2 starts in Kleinkarlbach and runs primarily
along country roads and federal highways… … via a Roman winery to Bad Dürkheim. From there, the third stage continues through vineyards and well-known places such as Wachenheim and Gimmeldingen to Neustadt an der Weinstraße. Our short conclusion We’ve almost made it to stages 2 and 3 of the Palatinate Almond Trail. We now have a few hundred meters left to Neustadt an der Weinstraße. What would you say Anne… how were the stages? The second and third stages improved slightly compared to the first stage. Furthermore, there are many wide paths because they always go along or through the vineyard. Right through the middle. We also went through towns again, which I personally always find quite nice. Now towards the end… At the back it got really absurdly crowded. Right now around Gimmeldingen, where we just passed through… Masses rolled through there, it was totally absurd. We had a beautiful castle with us today, which was actually integrated into the path. Otherwise: The trail markings were okay. There could be a bit more here and there. At one point or another, the GPX file deviates from the markings or vice versa. As for the path itself, what else do we have? We jokingly said, yes, in parts, but we haven’t seen the path that often. As Anne already said, you often pass through vineyards, as you can see behind us. Perhaps Almond and Vineyard Trail would have been a more appropriate name. But overall… Regarding the almonds, one must say, “Yes, you always see some, here and there it’s a bit more frequent… I imagined it to be even more…but oh well. But overall we’ve had fun so far. A great view as you walk along the vineyards the whole time. You can see that right behind us. The views are fantastic. I would say we’ll leave it at that for today. We are now walking the last few meters to Neustadt. We hope you enjoyed joining us. As always, have fun hiking. And then we’ll see you again on the next stage. And for all those who were wondering why Anne Tapfer carried a backpack for two stages… … and I walked alongside in a deeply relaxed manner. What you don’t have in your head, Anne has on her back. Exactly. This is our first time traveling with a campervan, and we had a few coordination issues while packing… I assumed my backpack was already in the car and… Let’s put it this way… I had everything with me. Not Tobi. Not me. But the camera…it was there. And who had to pay in the end? Well, I’ve trained now! Well, that’s it for now. See you soon. Thanks for watching.

Hallo liebe Anne, hallo lieber Tobi,
🍀begleite Euch gerne weiter
Hallo zusammen 🙂
