Tour of Italy 2025
Tonelli, Taroti, and Scaroni are all up the road. Seven riders, three and a half minutes. I talked about Paul Doble. Tried to shed some light on him for you. I know one man who knows him pretty well. He’s had him on his podcast recently. Time to hand over for a little while to Matt Stevens. Cheers, Rob. Enjoy watching um the closing stages of this race before you finally pick it up. It’s been an intriguing stage so far. I really agree with your observation. It’s delicately poised. One moment clearly in favor of the Pelaton being led by Red Bull Bora Hansra. Then the pendulum swings to that tipping point, then it swings back in favor of the group out in front. The seven strong riders that you’ve mentioned and here they are with that gap of 3 minutes and 28 seconds. They’re just going up another little peak, a small climb before we hit the last of the Mali Chicklamino sprints. We’re looking at Christian Scoroni. I wonder if that’s a face. Um, he’s pulling a mask there or he’s actually starting to suffer. It has been a tough tough day so far. A hard fought for break. And Christian Scrone is looking like he’s going to be taking a tablet there. That’s a little uh plastic beaker of water no doubt to take a tablet with. There are certain things that they can take out on the road. Paracetamol, ibuprofen, things like that. just the simple over-the-counter drugs that Urai uh can take. And that might be to uh well, clearly he looks like he might have been one of the riders that came down in that crash yesterday. A bandage to his knee or plastered to his knee as H Lamblazer makes sure that he’s caped up for this little descent. Once they go through the intermediate sprint that comes in about four and a bit case, they do lose elevation. They then kick up again. Then they’ll drop down in the valley to head towards the final climb of the day that takes us to the top of the Daglia Godso. We’re looking at the Rock Demet. And as it says there, charming mountain village located in the Laga Mountains. Absolutely beautiful. There’s not a day goes by in the juratitali where we don’t see something that’s absolutely stunning and I’m sure inspires you all if you’ve never been to this beautiful peninsula before that you should come and explore experience and be involved in everything that it has to offer. It is a stunning country. The most beautiful race in the most beautiful place is the tagline of the Juralia. And a top a ruined edifice the Castello de Ro dating back to the Middle Ages and an old fortification overlooking the valley below. But Adam, it’s been a fascinating stay so far, isn’t it? We talked about the balance, the the power swinging between the Pelaton and the breakaway. And with the gap as it is at the moment, it’s uh wouldn’t it’s it is still kind of hanging in the balance. 334, you’d want that at the bottom of this climb, wouldn’t you? Any less than that, um I would say it’s doubtful, but if they can hold that lead through the Red Bull sprint, they do have a chance, especially given the climb isn’t super steep from the bottom. It is a fast climb saved for the final two kilometers, but we have a lot of firepower behind, don’t we? Only one team has set the pace today. with his red hand. Just as we spot that there, Matt, I think Little Trex’s just come up to help. I think they have just as I I think they must have listened to me or us Well, the team, you know, the group of us and that they do have a little bit of assistance. I think they put somebody on the front because it is in the it’s just in the balance, isn’t it? If they if that breakaway with the riders they’ve got and it’s worth reminding everybody the break isn’t just three riders who are taking a chance. We’ve sorry three riders take it. It’s seven riders all of whom have got proven skills. All of whom who’ve been up there in very hilly terrain. Um and it’s a fast climb as well. So they need to start taking this time back if somebody from the Pelaton is going to take the stage win today. And that’s your answer, isn’t it? Le aren’t happy with the gap. They want to bring it back. Yeah. Little bit of bluffing as well, I think, by Red Bull in terms of we’ll keep two, we’ll keep two, we’ll keep two, and wait for another team to come up. 54k still to go, but they’ve still got a lot of terrain to go. They’ve got a lot of down, excuse me, and then they have that final climb, which yeah, it’s not easy, man. It’s 11.9K. So 5.6% average gradient with it really ramping up towards the end. So even at the time gap now, there’s still plenty of time to to get this back for the stage when I think for Red Bull. And it’s just interesting. They’re obviously very confident they’ll track either Chak or Fat. Yeah, the interview we had at the top of the day with Vatchet was surprised at all. It really did. Um, just a quick talk about the flags. Not so much the uh multi-nation flags that we’ve seen, more the wind direction. It’s been assisting them all day. Uh, the road has meandered left and then right, but essentially it is moving from the east to the west and the wind is primarily in their back. Occasionally over the left shoulder, occasionally over the right, and it will it’s blown them up all of these climbs and that is another thing to think about. It’s um quite often, Adam, when we get headwinds on a climb, especially an exposed climb, it can almost shave a lot of the gradient off. It makes it quite negative sometimes, but the complete opposite when it’s a tailwind. Hardly any benefit from sitting on the wheel, even in 5 12%. Especially when it gets a bit steeper, favors the lighter men, and it really diminishes the benefit of holding a wheel. Yeah, it definitely does. And it ultim ultimately makes it a lot easier for the riders on the wheels, but it also makes it very difficult to close those gaps if there is a gap to open up as well. So, there’s benefits to headwind if you’re not on the attack, but if you are on the attack, it can benefit you if you are feeling good. Pelaton just going through Ro. It’s the Italian fora. There we go. I’ll tell you what I’m I’m going to bring in. We’re going to throw to uh a look at the final 3 km of the the last climb in a bit. But also watch out for bears on the route today. Um the Marikan brown bear is a very rare species of bear which is only um it’s only in this particular area of Abuto. There’s three national parks. It’s only found there. There are only 60 or 70 of these bears left in existence. Uh that is very very scarce indeed. Um I’m just wondering if um our man on the moto Yenz has seen one, but that’s maybe a question for another day. Um this is the break at through 24. Let’s have a look actually at um what we’re going to expect on the final climb. We know it is a long one. Oh, let’s take him through the points first, shall we? Um that’s coming up in just a few meters time. It is going to be a man from Pyvis Visit Malta, Alexander Tiny. He takes the points there towards the Mal Chikimino. Not exactly hotly contested, but a few euros in the bag and a few points towards the madly chicklamino. But immediately they’re going to be back and working together as a cohesive unit if they’re to stand any chance of staying away. Okay, let’s throw to the last part of the climb. Let’s see what’s on the menu a little bit later today. I’m standing here with only 3 km to the finish line on the Talia climb. And behind me here, you see the steep part. Before that, let’s talk about this. The climb itself is 11 km. The first 9 km are quite regular. It’s only four 5%. I actually reckon that many of the riders will be on the big chain ring. The surface is new. It’s perfect. It’s quite twisting. So, the riders will sense that it will go really fast. They will not have a a a breath or like a a a little break on the first 9 km. Is twisting all the time. And then behind me here with 3 km to go, it ramps up. We have doubledigit gradients around 11, 12, and 13%. It’s all the way up to the finish line where it flattens out the last bit. The crowds here are amazing. I just saw a little tent down there with Arosini. So, dear Diaz’s, let your riders know in the group that fans here are waiting. We have a big crowd here. Look this. I got a porquetta, little local snack from the fans here. And look how they’re waiting for the riders today. And abuso. It’s going to be an amazing day today. I will have a little taste of this. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] Very tasteful. Local pig. No. No. No. Are you welcome? Local pig he called himself. Got to love a little bit of uh of Anders. That’s uh very very funny indeed. Yeah, local pig. But there we go. So he had a bit of porchetta, the local delicacy as we know. It’s all tini which is little bits of cubed lamb on a skewer. And then of course you have the wine as well. What a combination. Well, the pelaton behind have really picked up the pace here. A couple of other teams moving through as well. We’ve also got Israel Premitech moving up on the left hand side as well. Remember Derek G lost a bit of time on the opening stage. Rode a strong time trial. Still in the mix. Still a long way to go in this race. Um and we’re getting that little bit of added momentum because we’re heading towards the descent after this intermediate sprint. No more points for the Malachic Lamino. No more stressing. Um but they’re definitely getting into position. Also on the left hand side looking after Simon Yates who sits in third. the yellow of team Vizma Lisa like 50ks to go for our breakaway and they are on this descent. There’s a little kick up of a couple of KS before we then continue right down into the valley through the Red Bull sprint which does offer up 64 and 2 seconds. But the gap holding steady as it is although it’s coming down those bonus seconds will be taken by the breakaway but it’s just what sort of lead will they have at that particular point. But yet added impetus here. But you think this is more it looks like it’s more maneuvering for the descent itself, Adam, as we’ve seen every time there’s a significant descent, especially with the changeable weather, teams are moving up, not generally assisting with the pacemaking, but this looks to me it’s just making sure they get Simon Yates’s third wheel in the yellow in position. Just better better safe than sorry. Yeah, for the downhills, changeable weather. As you said, Matt, it’s important to stay near the front. We saw Napoli yesterday in the rain, how slippy the roads can be. Don’t want to have any repeated they call the roads saponeta saponeta saponete they called the roads yesterday colloially because it’s almost as slippery as a bar of soap it’s a special word for sleeper roads like that saponeta yeah I’d say so but there we go thankfully it is dry now but they’ve uh again Simon Yates we heard from him at the top of the program didn’t we um didn’t really give much away uh and when you think about how he’s performed in this race in the past such an exceptional campaigner. Yeah. Winner of a grand tour, won the world took stage wins, three stage wins before capitulating on the colle. But we haven’t really talked too much about Simon, but he’s quite just outside the top 10, not too far down. And on his day, a steep gradient like this would really suit Simon Yates, but again, we we haven’t talked too much about him, but there he has been taken to the front. What do you rate his chances today? Uh, strong strong Simon. you can never count him out. You know, I think Simon in the past couple of years, we we saw him in the past in some exceptional form, winning grand tours, winning the welltos, winning the Gro. So, I think for him, you know, he’s come into here as the GC rider for this Misa Bank. Um, so he he’s got to be going well and we’ve got to rate his chances in it. You know, he’s got the backing from his team to do so and I can’t imagine the bringing him here just to to get a top 10. And I think a top 10 will be good obviously, but he’d want more from it personally. So I think on a day like today, we know he’s got a punchy finish, a fast finish. I’d say definitely for Simon here, he’d be satisfied with a top five result if it all comes back together. Let’s say a top five out of that GC group come to the line or not. I still believe that these guys are going to be caught. Yep. The way that it’s going at the moment, I I think they will. Um it’s not going to be for a while. I think they will. Uh basically the the start of the final climb is signified by the Red Bull kilometer. They’re going to be away then because it’s not going to be caught. There’s not enough road. 47ks to go. 11.9 of those all uphill. Of course, one little climb to come about halfway down this descent. I think they’ll still be in front then, but if we get a lot of teams riding hard on the bottom of the climb, uh they will be pulled back. I think they need 4 minutes at the bottom of the climb to stay away. Uh 3 and 12 to 4 minutes. It’s now under 3 minutes. So, in my humble opinion, and I think you do agree, the pendulum has swung back in the favor of the Pelaton, especially on these flat sections on the Valley Road. We do see one or two other teams moving through to the front. Yeah, exactly that. They’ve got roughly around 40ks, just under 40ks till they get to that intermediate sprint. So, yeah, just under 3 minutes to time gap. So, that’s a The Pelaton are going to have to ride significantly faster to bring it back for those bonus seconds. So, I don’t think they’ll be going for them, but yeah, like you say, 4 minutes, 3 minutes, 3 and 1 half minutes they’ll probably need at the bottom of the climb if the GC guys properly race up there. So, at the minute, I’d say it’s probably still I’m going to put a pun here just to warn everyone at home as well. Possibly double. Did you just say double bubble? Double doable. Double double double double bubble. Um, sorry. I thought there was a bit of interference on the line there. Yes. But it is intriguing, you know, with Paul double in there, the Brit 1 minute 23 down now on GC that he’s in, you know, he’s got over a minute and a half lead in that pink jersey competition. He’s the virtual leader on the road. It’s just what he’s got left in the tank to be able to get up to that line. It’s impressive. We would Rob was talking about earlier. I did speak to him the other day. We’ve had a message from one of our esteemed colleagues out of the Jurro. He’s the announcer of the Jurro. uh fantastic commentary himself, Anthony McCross, who we all know and he’s just saying he’s reminded me that his dad Len rode for the Dawn Cycling Club and I raced me and me and Anthony back in our early racing days in the UK raced against Paul Doubles’s dad. Um and then Paul and then Paul before he went over to Zappy’s race for the VC Venta, which is the same club as Anthony McCrosen as that break pass through 45k ago. There is Paul double at the back. Uh, and as Rob Hatch was saying, I did did have him on a podcast a couple of weeks back. Uh, then it wasn’t confirmed that he was riding officially the Jurro, but he kind of knew that he was, and he is in great form. Um, I thought he deserved a ride last year when he was riding for Py Kameta. That’s what the team were known as. He’s got a teammate in the break or an ex- teammate in the breakaway with him today. Tornelli, you’ll know him well as we look at the finish of the J. I don’t recognize who that rider is, but that’s quite He’s sprinkling Stardust on his bike. Damian Kaneo rolling in for a tight battle. Is that Andrea Taffy? Not too sure. Looks like it. We need It’s hitter after hitter, isn’t it? Yeah. Is that Is that Chia? Is that Kiauchi come? That’s Taffy. Taffy on the right. Buno’s in the mix as well. Um and just one or two. Chip Chipellini’s there. Um great to see. I remember Chipellini riding the jury when I rode it. He cut his sleeves off and got fined. But that that’s either nuts or dust or salt. That’s from the famous salt bay. The man that drizzled the salt over his meat. It could be, couldn’t it? Famous chef, wasn’t it? First glance there, I thought he was going to lift his bike up to celebrate. And I was thinking this is going to be interesting with an ebike. Very heavy. It’s about best part of 15 kilos. Yeah, that’s a light one, I’d say, Matt. Best part of 20 kilos. Yeah. There we go. The dura. Always good fun. a real leveler. Uh, wonderful bit of technology of course. Um, and the Duro A has been around for a while. They essentially ride about the last 60 or 70ks of every single duro stage. Have a different start. 3 400 people riding that, including some of the big stars of the past. Importantly, the weather then looked pleasant up near the top for the G. That that finished 10 or 15 minutes ago. They generally finish about an hour and a bit before the duro comes through to give them plenty of time and that is a good sign. I just hope that it does stay dry for them especially on the rest the rest of this descent and as they round this corner and we understand leader giving it a push down here as well. They’re not hanging about. We saw Dan Hall and Mads Pedison in the pink jersey right towards the front sprinting out of the corners. And on descents like this, yes, the time gap is 252, but I can imagine when they get to straight roads out the trees a little bit more, that time gap will come down quite a bit more. I can imagine Dan is the sort of rider on these descents, four or five% where you can make a difference. It’s not just about freewheing here. You can and the gears that are on the bike especially the riders who in teams that you sham they’ll be lot 54 56 10 at the back which is a big gear means you can push it on these downhill section now the breakaway they’re just picking up there’s the overall standings of the Malichino that is an incredible lead that Mads Pison has bought himself over the last few days with those three stage wins the numerous points that he’s gathered out on the road showing that he’s very focused on that one I think even uh his race has already been a success and at the end of this stage we’ll be onethird of our way through this edition of the jural we’re looking at Santa Jonah another historic locality we are of course in the heart of abuto it is a beautiful beautiful part of the world slightly oluded today um here we go mad ped in pink there we go this is this isn’t a surprise is that we know we know now that Matts Pedes is going to seed the jersey today this suggests that is either in for Chicone or Vache because Vache’s conversation, sorry went off on a bit of a tangent, intrigued me. He’s backing himself here today. What do you think Chicone thinks about that or do you think they’re just going to see how they respond and Vach’s going to hold on for as long as he can? I think Vache can hold on and Chicone can go for the stage double bubble. Um, they can definitely do both. You know, if if Vat finishes near enough around to Roglitch and gets a few seconds on him, that’s great. But let’s not forget the interview that Mads Pettison said after day one or three where he was talking about I cannot wait to repay Chico. They were his exact words especially in this region as well. You talked about at the top of the program and on our show that he is from this region and when we saw the bit from Anders there a couple of the riders were actually uh so sorry the couple of the defos were actually calling his name. You’re just pointing to the gap. I was going to point out that this little kicker the likes of and mad ped on this short 2ks they can take 30 40 seconds easy. Look this is they’re really piling on the pressure now. stringing it out. 67 68 km an hour here. This will be fun as well for these two just having like right let’s go. They’re just going to open it up, aren’t they? And they can put a lot of firepower. The combined horsepower of and Pison on the front is only going to shave seconds off this lead. 41.8ks to go. Some of you are now going to take a commercial break. TNT Sports coverage of Jurro Ditalia is sponsored by Service Now. TNT Sports powered by Endura. Guys have sat in those seats for generations in this iconic stadium. Greatness since 1878. Rooney. Oh my word. He’s done it. [Applause] It’s will never be forgotten. The park atmosphere only ever can do this. When I’m investing, I’m not alone. Get inspired by millions of investors worldwide and be the investor you want to be. Build a diversified portfolio on the go with over 7,000 assets. Join it [Music] Toro. Firepower is piled on at the front. But the thing is in this situation for the break, they know who is chasing behind. And we’re seeing a slow motion replay of another near missile. Now we got a rogue dog on the road. Look, it’s it’s a dog that looks like a sheep, but that is indeed a dog, but no, sheep dog. It’s a sheep dog. But thankfully, god, it’s this when you’re out in these countryside areas, so you are at the behest of wildlife quite often. But another unhipped chain on these uh scari, I think it is in the breakaway. That looks like it’s dropped in between the chain set and the bottom bracket. If that is the case, that’s going to be a nightmare to to get off there. Most most of these teams have a chain catcher with a front neck as well, of course. But that looks like it’s dropped right in, Adam. Yeah, it definitely does. Although it’s moving around a lot, but yeah, there’s the decision made. Stop, chuck it back on, get going again. Oh, that’s so frustrating for Scari. He’s back up, but the the the break aren’t going to wait. Not with a gap at 323 and dropping. Bard, meanwhile, is closing the gap behind. I think first got only there as well is that we’ve we saw him on the last couple of descents. Quite a nervous descender. They are going downhill and you can see by the way these guys are rotating in the front. They’re pulling the turns well. They’re sharing that workload. They’re doing short turns which will make it faster on a descent. So it will be hard for Scaroni to catch back up. Hopefully it’s a fairly standard downhill. Well, one of the pre-race favorites today, not picked by any of us. There’s Tom Pigcock. Lost a little bit of time on the general classification. Certainly eyeing a stage like this. We do have an interview lined up with Tom ahead of today’s stage. What can Tom Pigcock do today? Is he all in for potential win? Is he going to wait for a couple of days time to start when we finish in Sienna? Let’s hear what the man from Q36.5 thought ahead of today’s stage seven. Tom, uh, looks like a great finish for you today. What have you been chatting about in the bus? Uh, what have we been chatting about? Well, yeah, I think um, definitely is a good finish. Um, we’re yeah, debating or wondering what’s going to happen in the in the race and who will control after the crash yesterday. Um, you know, for sure we need some of the, you know, Bora, a strong team to to help control. I think the likely be a big fight for the breakaway. So, it could, uh, be a breakaway day as well. You said in the beginning of the Jurro, you were here to to race every day, but you’re still up there in the GC. I know maybe you’re tired of this question, but are you thinking of the GC and the Jurro? No, not really. I think um there’s no I mean there’s there’s perhaps you know before the next rest day opportunities if in uh the perfect circumstance that I could be in pink but um yeah the GC itself I’m not really thinking about u but um no I think yeah we we we go to race and then hopefully it comes back together today. Finally, Tom, a lot of teams losing riders yesterday, injured riders. Do you think they can have an impact of Yeah, maybe the break can can have a chance today. Yeah, exactly. That’s why I think there’s more of a chance, you know, like uh Bora losing Jai. I think that’s a big hit for them. Um also, yeah, some teams not knowing exactly how well people are going. So, um after that crash, so perhaps be a bit more ky today and then other people take the advantage of that and try more go to the breakaway. Have a good one today. Thank you. Always very interesting. Thank you, Anders. Uh to interview took place before the stage. Uh we know that it’s uh probably not going to be a day for the breakaway given the gap that our seven riders out in front. Well, six now because Scorroni has had a mechanical is chasing. We are looking at images now of Roman Bart running his last ever grand tour. He’s had a lot of bad luck over his career. He’s also had a lot of success as well. But that was actually quite an Tom Pickot has got better and better over the last few years at giving us actually quite interesting interviews. I love his honesty. Um said that it’s not about the GC and I’m glad that Ander’s pressed that question home uh with the caveat of a bit of an apology because I bet Tom is get getting pretty tired. But he said I think with Tom as he said focusing on some stage wins but a lot of it depends on how the race goes and how it unfolds and the way that this durro has been designed the parkour that we has does make it different difficult should I say to really predict how these stages are going to go from one team to another looking at the riders that they’ve got but um it’s a hard one for Tom to win this one but on form I mean we know at the start of the year he was absolutely flying put out some of his best fiveminute power Uh he’s been very explosive, but he has had a busy classic season and and the way he was talking there, he wasn’t quite saying he was going to go for it today, but arguably Sienna is a stage that would suit him more. But again, that’s going to be a stage of real chaos as well, isn’t it? It is. Yeah. As we see shots of Dagliao, it’s the finished location of today’s stage. Yeah. Sunday stage. We know how good Tom was in Stard Bianca this year. The only rider I follow, Tad Pagata. One of the few riders in the history of cycling to attack Tad Paga. Great, wasn’t it? It was very I mean what I mean you got to try. I want to almost want to start the hashtag here. Forget Biana is the sixth monument. I do love that race. It is Tom Pitcock’s favorite race. Uh but I think it’s becoming a lot of fans favorite race as well. But we are heading there on Sunday. Uh it’s going to be there we are finishing in the center in the Patza del Campo. That’s on Sunday. Today as you said that was the beautiful sights of our finish up at Daglia Godzo we go up to 1,426 m right at the very top. The first part of our finishing climb relatively steady at only 4.6 uh% gradient for the last 9k. Then it kicks up to an average of 11.9 but then it flattens Adam just at the top. So the KM is on the finish line, but although it’s steep all the way to the finish, there is 300 m of flat. And in terms of the actual stage win here, that’s going to if anyone doesn’t trust their sprint, but trust their climbing, a rider who wants to win this needs to get a gap over the top, don’t they? Yeah, exactly that. And there will be a lot of always on these climbs, anyone that’s ridden a bike before and they’ve gone full gas up a climb and then you go over the top of it, trying to hold that effort over the top is one of the hardest things to do. You can do the climb, you can go up right up to your maximum, but then when you get that little bit of ease, it’s it’s then when it really starts to hurt a little bit more. Just when you get that ease in your legs and the lactate suddenly goes, “Hello, I’m here to play.” Um, so yeah, that does does add something different in there. But for me, this this climb suits a lot of riders and probably the hot favorite for the race. Previous Rob Blicks more than anyone else. I think you are right. Well, we are getting ever nearer the finish. It’s been an entertaining stage so far. 1 minute and 26 seconds is the lead for our riders out in front who have dominated the day so far. Paul Double was in there. He was at one point the Malio Rosa on the road, but there’s a lot of firepower behind. We’ve got flat roads now that take us through the Red Bull sprint as we continue to look at Bardday. Lots happening out on the road, but for this finish, I’m very excited about watching this one. I’m going to hand you over to Rob Hatch to take us through to the line at Daglia Cotzo. Thanks, Matt. A few old views, an old stadium. is a modern stadium that we’re heading up now all the way to Taliao. Roman ruins here. Thankfully, not too many GC challenges in ruins yet. But as things have changed since Sha and I left, they’ve changed quite dramatically. Adam, the breakaway disappeared in almost a click of a finger here today. It did. I think that just shows how hard Red Bull were trying. And I said to Matt at the time, you know, they might have been playing a bit of a bluff, wanting to hold their numbers back a little bit, try and keep their riders, as many as they’ve got until the final climb and use that firepower leading into the climb onto the final climb. So for me, they played a bluff. They forced the other teams to start to come to the front and they’ve really started to push with that now, the other teams. And that’s why we’re seeing this time gap disappear at a right speed. Mads Person, Dan Huler coming up. Of course, they’ve got a local manacone that’s uh it’s going to be fired up today. They’ve got Vache that’s not too far off that pink jersey as well a little bit further behind Primus Roblitch. So, they’ve got a few options today. So, I believe that they believe in the stage win. But just with this downhill, the running to the finish, the positioning, the Red Bull sprint, we’re seeing all these teams come up to the front and that’s what’s pushing that pace on more and more and more. And as I said to Matt earlier, the riders in the brake aren’t going to be wanting to go full gas now. They’ll be thinking about that last climb trying to save energy for the last climb. So you got that double effect of why the time gap is coming down so much. We’ve just seen a couple of riders return to the front to Red Bull. Bora Hanskr, this is Hman Baldi. Get Sean’s view on what happened in just a moment as he rejoins me. He’s back. He’s off to the doctor’s car now to get looked at. Final grand tour for Hman Baldi. Let’s really hope he can recover. Get those wounds dressed. Of course, it’s not ideal coming to such a hard finish, certainly in those final three kilometers or so. The finale is on its way. I look at Lena and learn the value of value investing. From Kai, I learned how to spot growth stocks and my she’s my dividend stocks guru. Jean teaches me about consistency. On e Toro, I can be like them all at once. Be the investor you want to be. E [Music] Toro here like of you know um Rogich and uh Ausso and Co. But um the interesting one was we see the uh Bora Hanss go riding and then little suddenly they came to the front and started to push on uh and they are riding of course for Chiconei. He’s the local here. He’s from the region and I think they want to just you know build his confidence leave them see that they are they are confident in him but I think it’s going to be a very difficult one for Chiconei. Vache has also mentioned but I don’t think Vache has no chance here today in this sort of difficult run up to the finish. Even for Chiconei when you look at his Palmer he’s won races out of breakaways but you know when you come with the big guys on a mountain top finish he hasn’t been able to do that unless he produces a you know a super performance and let’s not forget little have been doing that right from the beginning this year. So maybe today is the day for Chiconei but he’s the only one for Little Trek I think can maybe take a stage victory. Yan Tratnik moving up on the right there. This is David Gu being looked after by his entire team to try and save the general classification challenge there at the back of the race. Gordu has been at the doctor’s car. How far off they here? They’re almost in the cars. A little look. Gordu moving up. He’s the rider. Oh, where is he? No, I think does he make it? He’s at the back here. He’s at the back here. He’s right at the back here, Sean. Yes. Sorry. One on his back. I thought I thought he had met in with Bardday there a bit earlier, but yeah, this is a much worse situation now for uh uh for him because uh we can see the way, you know, the gap out front. You can see the cars of the uh the race direction and that this is going to be uh I don’t think it’s going to happen. And if he gets back in, as we said, uh you know, with Barde, it was bad because you know, it took a big effort to get back in. At least he’s going to get a bit of recovery time, but yeah, for David Gordu, not going to happen here. David Gordu coming to the Jitalia for the first time in his career to have a go at the general classification here and then go to the to France for stages. That was the idea. They’re almost back in the cars here. A reminder that the climb is coming up though. We are less than 10 kilometers from the start of the first uphill finish of this Jirro Ditalia. The first of only two mountain top finishes. Although there are plenty of mountains that have finishes not too far after. Coming to Talia Kotzo where we also got a Red Bull sprint. You could see just getting a little bit of hand there from the car. Quite literally not the first or last time we’ll have seen that done. But the issue for David Gordu if you’ve been away been busy switch on again. He had a crash involved with Roman. It was going uphill and he seemed to injure his hand. He’s had that looked at and bandaged up by the medical car. As we look at Rocka Orzini, all the little mountain top towns seem to have Rocka as the prefix in this part of the world. Gordu back to within a minute of the Pelatin. And the Pelatin has swelled. Final preparations are being made. And talking of final things, take a final look at Mars Pearson in the pink jersey. He said today would be his last chance today. Sitting on his wheel and ready to go. Local hero Julio Chicorn. Matias Vatk Sha doesn’t think he’ll be able to do the business today to keep pink. But Shan for the housekeeping just in case there’s a 7second gap between Primos Rogich and Matias Vatk Marson leads the judo by 17 from Rogich 24 from his teammate Vatsek. We remind you there are 10 six and four bonus seconds at the top. There are 64 and two bonus seconds before we get to the start of the climb. Talia Kotzo. Those bonus seconds are likely to be taken however by the breakaway at the moment. The breakaway promopoli double Lresa Tonelli Taroti Scaroni with a gap at 143. Bull double does remain the virtual leader of the Jirro Italia. However, with the terrain to come, it’s difficult to see him being up there. This is the situation behind. It hasn’t really started going absolutely bananas yet, but there’s a tension there, isn’t it? And the speed is being kept up despite the fact it’s not in this arrowhead formation. No, the speed is gone out. We did see moments ago there was times when it did really start to up in pace in the pelaton, but now they know, you know, 143 I think the riders there, they’ve decided, okay, guys, knock it off a little bit now. We don’t need to catch the break before the climb. And uh we’re in the uh control position and uh so you can see the Pelaton is after slowing down quite a bit. But yeah, what an another disappointing day for the breakaway because the guys out front like they’ve done an amazing job to get into the breakaway today. Anybody that wasn’t with us in the area part it was a big big fight to make it into the breakaway and the guys that managed it. It looked like that could happen for them. And there was a long time there where it was very much in the balance for you know 50 60 kilometers where it might go the way of the breakaway they’d be allowed to take enough but then we did see more about the one who kept it going all the time and allowed to go out a bit and I was you know getting confident a bit more confident that the breakaway could do it but then we could see that they started to you know crank it up again and yeah then at the top of the climb the uh which we’ve been over 60 km in finish. You could see that it was going to be majorly difficult for the breakaway to make it with enough an advantage to go on to contest for the stage win. That was the Vado de la Forcella which came at just over 60ks from the finish. Second category climb. By the way, both big climbs that have been won by Paul Double. So, he’s put himself on the board in the mountains competition at the very least today. 36 points picked up so far by him. There’s the front of the race. Here is the pelin. And at the back of the cars, you should see the Davidid Godu group. At the front, the Maya enjoying his last moments in Pink Merson helping out Danoha. Aayuso moves up to be with his teammates on the left hand side. On the right, you can see EF Education Easy Post. They are looking after their main man who of course is Richard Kalipaz. He crashed yesterday. Visma Lisa Bike looking after Simon Yates. And a few years ago, Sean, we’d look at a finish like this on Agility Talia and it would have Simon Yates’s name written all over it. Yes, it would. And uh we’ll be interesting today to see because um you know the guys here, you know, they have been preparing. Uh some of them maybe haven’t done a lot uh in the races previous that they have been doing. But that doesn’t, you know, say they’re not going to be at a better level coming into this uh JRO doing, you know, altitude camps and all of that. from these guys and nowadays the modern way of you know preparing with the altitude camp they can prepare to be at their you know maximum at their best forum. So, we could see some of the riders that, you know, you might not think they’d be in the shout here, but they could be the ones that uh come up the trump card in the end, and there’s a lot of them in there. As you said, you know, Simon Yates, Adam Yates, Carropaz, Pete Chicone. Um, I was looking at Bardday earlier. I had him penciled in and God of course, but God is, you know, still fighting. He just going to get back in here, but this effort I think is going to be too much for him. Bardday will he have enough time to recover? Uh and they need to be on a super day those guys to you know fight against Rogich and uh Del Toro Yuso Tibi another one who you know this sort of finish I think will suit him. Michael Store who is an excellent forum. So there’s a raft of you know very good riders here to take this stage today. David Gordu is back for now. A great team effort from Gbama. Gordu gets rid of a bit of ballast and now will try to survive with that injured right hand that bandaged up. 16 and a halfks to go on stage seven. The first summit finish of this jido ditalia. TNT Sports coverage of Jurro Ditalia is sponsored by Service Now. TNT Sports powered by Endura. In the Jiro Ditalia, taking the scenic route has a whole other meaning. Today the Jodalia moved to a new phase. 3 and a half thousand meters of climbing, the first of two summit finishes. on our way to the Red Bull kilometer line. 500 meters to cross it. 64 and two bonus seconds plus the blue number to wear on the back of the jersey tomorrow. The breakaway of Podum Goff domelli Taroti and Scaroni have done a job today to stay out. At one stage it looked as though they might be staying away for the whole duration. It’s looking difficult however with a 1 minute 23 second advantage and a big mountain to climb. It’s absolutely glorious here in Tayakotzo on a nice sunny day, but today it’s overcast. There’s a moody, murky image in and around. The blue number will be fought out by Taroti and Tonelli. And Tarotzi taking that sprint there. Make sure he’s right up in the fight for the overall Red Bull sprint classification because Tarot and Tonelli have been involved in a Red Bull sprint already. We’ll update you to those classifications tomorrow on our way to Julanova and finishing of course further up the coast in what looks like a Teno Adriatical style classic stage. More climbing in that day tomorrow. 30 km more as well. But the climbing here could have a huge effect in the general classification. The Mayara Mas Person is riding his final kilometers surely now in that pink jersey. Alongside him, Sean, first time at the front we’ve seen Tudtor at the front. That was Larry Warbash, the former American champion who was there trying to put in store who could be a candidate for victory here. Yes, he can be. And uh they are going to position them onto the beginning of the climb and then see the situation again. Uh you know when you’re uh riding onto the climb, you have to fight and ride fast on the front to keep your position otherwise you get crowded out very quickly. And we can see it’s Matt Pedson who’s pulling along. But you can see you know Chudor are there. You can see Vizmer there. Inors are in there. They’re all pretty close. And yeah, the way the pelaton is stretched out for the moment. If you’re back in 10th or 15th position, it’s still okay because the earlier part of the climb, it’s not that steep. So, it will be just slow selection in the earlier part the first number of kilometers. Just looking there, Red Bull Boro Hansore got separated and bumped out of position. Primo Zroglitch was a long long way down and there were two groups of Red Bull Borro Hanscore riders there. If you’re a reminder, we didn’t see it, but remember on the way into that sprint, there was a sort of chicane over the railway. I just wonder if there was some sort of acceleration split there. Well, that’s uh what I was just mentioning. You know, when you’re on the front, you have to keep the pace really high because another team will come up and just move in in front of you and then you lose five or seven places very quickly. And you know, that can happen on more than one occasion. So you can lose your position very quickly and that’s the reason we can see you know Matts Pedles leading Shrek securing a very fast pace to keep their men in the front of the race but again you know there’s a lot of space here to move up on this area part of uh the climb here. We can see it’s a large road so it’s not a major problem for Red Bull. We can see him appearing now on the right hand side of our screen. Marson with his last bit of work in the Mali Roza. What a spell it’s been. Five pink jerseys for the Super Dane and the great Dane pulls off. Now it’s time to his teammate Surely Julio Chip Corn. The white jersey still there though. Keep your eyes on Matias Fatk. He sits just 7 seconds from Primaric. It’s 40 seconds now. When you look at the gap from this group, the Pelatin all the way to the front. Primojovic has made his way back towards the front after being split a little bit. But at the front and taken control, it’s Josh Tarling here of the Inos Grenaders. And there’s a line of riders ending in Arensman and Bernal. Bernnal with great memories of stages starting in Castellandro because the last time a stage started here, he ended the day in the Malar Roa at Campo Feliche on the gravel uphill. Roa Dambio Castrojo trying to make his way back. There’s a pat on the back for the Maya Roza. It’s all change. It’s race on. The Groalia GC’s in play. Yes, it is going to uh be uh a bit of a selection here today in this mountaintop finish and you know the GC standings that top 15 places they are going to be uh quite a bit of movement. Uh we can see Inos here you know very much controlling here looks like the old days of sky where you see five or six uh of the team in front and the lead are just sitting on and the rest of the pelaton following. Uh it’s nice to see that they’re up there and uh they have they have numbers here but again it’s going to be an interesting one. Bernal, how good is he? Uh he’s coming the last number of years he’s just getting better and better. It’ll be interesting to see what he can do today and in this jury off the front alongside Tonelli. Tonelli from Py visit Malta who won their last stage at this race in this abut region. It was a non-contest day for anybody in the main bunch. Four Rajes out the front. They’ve been let go and given between 15 and 20 minutes that went to Bice. The Mayar Roza dropping behind of course not involved today so ignore the gap there to Masp 37 seconds see Brena Brena I should say the German champion moving up to help on the left hand side he’s at the service today of Michael Store and Simon Yates we mentioned him beautifully positioned in the yellow jersey not too far off where I am Bernal is batk still remains he’s in the white jersey remember left hand side in and around Julio Chic Corn. Rogich has gone to sit further back as Donovan moves up left hand side with Hson there with Tom Vidcock. Hamilton still there sitting just on the wheel. Lucas Hamilton that is of Josh Tingley Arensman and Castro BJO either side of Agon Bernal who wears number 81 and that Colombian champions jersey the change jersey the tribute to the cafe the Colombia days 38 seconds for the breakaway and their little dart off the front has just given them 10 seconds or more asing was setting a more solid pace at the first part of the climb Sean is really fast very fast yes it is and we can see here you know very good surfer And of course we’re hearing a well as well. Sorry, a tailwind here and uh it is going very fast. Uh and we can see the breakaway and the interesting one is we can see the riders that are in the front uh uh of the race at the moment and some of the breakaway guys have have disappeared and uh we can see Nicholas Pome there and as I was mentioning it he was going to be another one thinking I could get into the race leadership because he was only one minute down on Paul Dubel. So uh yeah uh it’s going to be a one where they’ll be talking about that tonight and yeah I thought we were in a great uh position there with uh 80 90 kilometers to go but it all evaporated and uh now it’s only going to be something that uh the dream evaporated and it’s gone and uh unfortunately as we can see the way the pelaton is coming up at the moment uh it’s going to be down to a big battle between the GC C men and interesting to see who’s going to be the best of the GC men at the end of this final 9.2K. Keep your eyes on UAE Emirates here as well. We talked about them at the start of the day. They already tried to throw a spanner in the works with Jay Vine a few times earlier on. Igor Arieta, the young talented Spaniard of very good cycling stock. Of course, his father actually now back working at Deathlon where he rode for a little while as well as a sports director. He was just moving up at the front there and they’ve got quite the train of UA and Yates. Don’t forget about Isak Toro. Four riders remaining. You mentioned Sean Goffoni. There’s Vatk 24 seconds from Pearson 7 seconds behind Rogich. who sits at 17 in the GC. Of course, he’s the de facto leader really at the moment. If you look at this, remember, there are bonus seconds. All sorts to add into things here. Right now, it’s Inos Grenaders controlling the tempo at 6% gradient. Look at speeds. 34 35 km/h. Next man to drop off the back comes from Tudritz Florian Stark. started the race really well in the hills in Albania. won his first pro bike race at the start of the year. Petro Trauntana on a rainffected day in Mayora 163 at the back there for picnic posts Chris Hamilton has done bit of a job today trying to help his team and Bald who sits in this bunch as David Gordu at the moment sitting right in the center in a good place not too far actually from Julio Chico he’s got the blue jersey on and that’s where we are we’re about a third of the way up the climb here 5.5% average and you could see that the right hand side of that graphic is where it kicks It’s the final climb, a mountain top finish for the first time in the geo and it turns into a steep wall in the last 3 km. Tensions’s been building and rising and ambitions rise now for Bahrain victorious because Poil Bao is putting his considerable talent and power into the service of young Antonio Dere. Yes, he’s another one. It will be interesting to see what he can do on this finish today. and uh he is uh you know a talented rider and this sort of finish would be the one you’d expect him to show but yeah there’s a lot of riders we have you know peaked out of the start list and who are um you know candidates for today but we’re going to see some of them I think they will have difficulty it’s always the situation until you get a real difficult day and a mountain top finish that is the real test to see who is in the shape to try and win this race be on the podium be in the top five uh at the end of the race and you’re not going to win the race here today, but you could also, you know, really lose your objective if that’s going to be podium or a top five place. Paul double dared to dream today. It was quite the effort. He does have rewards for those efforts. He’s on the board and in play for the King of the Mountains competition, but there will be no pink perfect ending. Here’s Limza comes back as well. Is there anything left in the legs to help Paul and Max Pool got down to 28 seconds and Bilbao continues to close it? Yes. And we could see he was on the radio there back to the DS director of Sportife and uh yeah, what do I do here? Do I really push on? What do we need here? Do we need more pace or do I just continue on at a steadier pace? And it looked like he was, you know, getting to work and pushing on a bit more. And that all depends on how you’re feeling. the leader if he’s in good shape where he gives a signal. Okay, drive it on. You’ll be hoping to do that for Bahrain victorious. Winners of eight stages down the years in the jidalia. That first one, a very famous one for Vincenzi diving down to Borneo. Yes, that was the day that Tom Dumula provided one of the moments he wished he probably hadn’t provided the television cameras. The whole team is here though. They were so close with Zambanini the other day. shocked and surprised us all. So much so we didn’t even know it was him. Aalio sits in front of Kuzo and in and around them Antonio their young leader. They’ve taken over the control of this stage. Left hand side you can see EF Education Easy Post moving up. They have their main man. the former winner of the judo 2019 Richard Karapas and still Matias Vatk sticks in this group but we are waiting for another 4 km or so until that gradient really really ramps up there’s Chicorn on the wheel of Vatknik still in the group as though he was dropping off a moment ago one of those riders who crashed yesterday just provides Primo Rogich with a bit of help just taking that maybe final bead on off get rid of any ballast. There he is on the right hand side, the Red Bull Borah scorer jersey and he’s moving up alongside Danny Martinez. So Yan Traik as ever the perfect teammate here. This is where you see the real uh domestics and uh this is where they earn their uh trust because uh you can depend on some of the guys that will be there at the point when they need to be there or when they’re supposed to be there and you know take you into the position where uh you know you just drop them off in the other uh wheels of the big favors and leave and follow then. And some guys are so dependable but there there’s a lot of you know teams here which uh a lot of helpers here you know little trek we can see here they have the numbers they have Conrad there we have Carlos Verona and then we have Chiconei and of course Bach uh Bahin as well they have quite a a lot of numbers but you know this is not a guarantee that the teams that on the front their riders are going to be the ones at the front end of the race when they hit the finish line here further back there’s a lot of riders just waiting and following and trying to conserve as much energy as possible on this very fast earier part of the climb. We can see 6.1 to go. It’s a long long way to the finish and with the final 3 kilometers. This is where we’re all blow apart when they get into the 3 km to go. Primarg chasing a 23rd grand tour stage win that would take him up to Dariad and Entil. You could just see on the primarilich front there was a shake of the head from Yan Tranik as he looked behind and he could only see Q36.5 riders on his wheel. He thought he’d done the job to put them in the position. I think it was Martinez who hadn’t followed the wheel. Things have changed and it’s Ealio now at the front putting the pace on and look at the gap changing 22 seconds. Bahrain victorious talking about Grand Tour stage wins. They’re looking for would be their 20th Grand Tour stage win since they began in the late teens. Antonio Tiberi we know is the home hope but none of the last eight gi have been won by Italians. Nebali the last in 2016. This is the longest run of non-Italian winners ever. And if Tibi is to have an absolute monster finish to this stage remember no Italian Malar Roa since Alesandro de Mari in 2021. It’s been over four years now. The longest drought ever for the host nation. It’s really being strong out there. Sean, we can see it the time gap. We can see it in the group. Yes. Well, we can see there as it just right has been uh dropped off the rear of the pelaton very very quickly here. And uh you know, we’re not on the steep part at all at the moment. And uh it’s just the speed here with the uh tailwind as well. The rider on the front or the rers on the front, they can go so fast here. And if you’re in in difficulty, that’s where you’re going to, you know, really suffer here to hang on in here. And uh you know it’s uh it’s going to be a killer when you have to do this in the al part and if you’re uh you know feeling a little bit in difficulty well then when you get onto the steep part uh unless you know the real climbers the lightweight rider sometimes when you’re climbing here you know it’s big ring stuff and you have to go on a big gear the smaller lighter weight riders may be in difficulty when you get into the final 3 kilometers you have to go on the lower gears. That’s where the lightweight little climbers come into action. So, we could see it changing, but this Marin are really just turning up the pressure. Look at the state of this group. It’s strong out. It’s getting smaller and smaller. And with 5 km to go, the breakaway is brought back. It’s one big group at the front and we haven’t hit the smallest, hardest part of the course yet. It is a short part of this long climb. 12ks from bottom to top, but it’s the final three kilometers that we’re really occupying ourselves with. Alphonso Lio, this is his first proper day at work on a world tour team in a grand tour and the Portuguese is having quite the day. Zambanini sits behind him. Tibi and Kuzo there good to go as well. Terry sitting third wheel. Sean, he’s been to see the stage as well. Yes. Well, it’s always good to see the stage and uh you know you know exactly what is coming up and u but again if you’re suffering a bit and you know what’s coming up sometimes you say, “Oh my god, I know what’s coming up around this corner and I’m uh just on the limit here hanging in.” Uh but if you’re if you’re good, you know where to take your opportunity and try and have a go. But yeah, this is a demonstration by the team of Bahrain. That was G fully gone at the front. They’re hanging in. There’s Bart on the left hand side for Picnic Postel. Sits on the wheel of Simon Yates. He’s got the yellow jersey on another of these hair pins here. There’s a long straight section by the way when we get to the steeper spring. That’s about a kilometer. But Lalio’s doing a monster turn here. Rip roaring up this climb. It’s like watching him on the pod. But this isn’t Smo. There’s no dive down to the finish after this is the first summit finish of the Jodalia and the kilometers are ticking by. 1k to go to the hardest section now and it looks as though Bahrain victorious are driving in. I can still see Matias Vatk sitting there in the white jersey. He will be feeling good but it’s about to get more difficult. Aretta’s the man in the white jersey with the black sleeves looking in and around. He might get about to pull the plug. Or is he just going to try and find a teammate or two and give that last little bit of help? That’s that. That’s done for Olio. It’s Zambanini now with those sprinting legs he showed the other day to sprint up this hill and to leader Antonio Tiberi Kuzo is behind as well ready to offer what he can have. It’s not too far from fireworks time here. Sean, no. You’d expect to see the fireworks coming pretty quickly as we get into this final 3 kilometers. But this pace, you know, um it’s a an infernal pace and everybody is just happy to follow here for the moment. But when yeah the domestics pull over from the leaders of their teams well then that’s when we will see some attacks coming and uh that should be within the final when we get into the final 3 kilometers. But again sometimes when the domestics are finished there’s a little bit of looking and if some of the guys that were expecting to attack are not feeling as good as they would like to be there might be a little bit of downtime uh for a bit before we can see some attacks coming. Castro Vjo banging his way to the front with all of that experience at his 20th Grand Tour. It’s his final year as pro as Zambanini is done. Aronman’s on the wheel of Castro Vjo. Then it’s Agon Bernal. 3.2 km to go. The road about to turn into a wall. Doubledigit gradients coming up and that maximum 13%. They hit it with just under 3 km to go. It’s about to get ridiculously hard and it’s almost relentless until the final 300 m. There are less riders there than there were a kilometer or two ago. Vatix still remains however is doing a great job despite his crash and injuries to position Max Pool on the left hand side in the Navy jersey. Paul’s just moving up now. Fortonato still there and on the right hand side you can see Rafa Micah is bringing his big main riders towards the front. Looking down at Gordui still there as well but Valde there was just losing contact. That might well be Bald being dropped. Yes. Well, we can see there’s a little bit of you know riders slipping back slowly here. But when you see Micah there appearing and uh if he goes to the front on the steep part, well then that will blow this uh main bunch of favorites apart. Roman Baldi in his final grand tour is falling off the general classification, but he’s done a valiant job for his GC leader Max Paul. The hardest gradients are hit and it’s Carlos Bona who has Matias Vatk on his wheel. Behind him, local boy Chicorn. There’s Teri and Kuzo, the pair who would try to make it hard before. It’s a sorting y before we even get the attacks. And already almost half of this bunch just disappears. Ardensman’s just about still there. Roglitch following behind. He’s two or three wheels behind Richard Karapas who’s moving up and trekk are bossing this like they have done for much. Keep your eyes on Bernal who’s just looking down left hand side. We get the move and it looks as though UAE are really ready to put themselves into position. And guess who? He loves to cheer, doesn’t he? Rafal Maher. Yes. and when he uh takes it up um look he is just a uh a brilliant climber on the steep sections and he can set his pace for a long time if he’s in the shape uh you know that we have seen him in the past and you know they have the numbers here as well and it’s going to be interesting and I think Del Toro is the one uh you know we could see him going in the attack because he’s that style of rider and they could you know have a tactic here if he try and strike out and see who’s going to react. The Red Bull Borah Hansore driver that we saw being dropped a moment ago. The rider I should say was Danny Martinez. Pit Zar’s now taken over the work of positioning Primo Rogic on the right hand side. Derek G is still there. Aer Rubio as well. Tom Picco and David Goru towards the back of this group and you can see that Micah continues to drive things forward. Nalt is on his wheel. Del Toro, the Mexican you mentioned, moving up on the left hand side in the white and black. And he’s moving up alongside Primo Rogic now looking maybe to find his teammates. He’s going to do that now on the left and Rogich wants to follow him because he’s wary. Then you get Hana Yuso as well and all the big names starting to come to the front. They’re on a long straight section coming up now. 12%. It’s straight. It’s long. It’s very very nasty. The UA Emirates train. Batk still there. P moves up left hand side following Terry. Fortunado just about to lose contact. That’s David Gordu fighting gritting his teeth but struggling. I’m looking at yellow jerseys here. Yates is still there. Pick Cox’s at the back. Adam Yates is there as well. Both Yates brothers are there. 151 is Chris Harper in the purple jersey. But Gordu’s having a real fight to keep in touch here. Yes. And this is the place you do not want to be. We can see Adam Yates there from UEE. He’s a bit further back here. And uh you have to be here in the mix of the big favorites because when somebody go here and there’s one or two riders follow, then there’s gaps appear. And if you have to make up that ground uh unless you’re really really good and if you’re really good, you will be more to the front here. So I think we’re seeing some of the GC men that were expecting to be very much to the front to struggle. Kintana out the back. Harper still there. Simon and Adam Yates here. Michael Store in the black jersey on the right hand side. In front of him is Chic Corner and Matias Vatk remains with 1.5 km to go. He is a monster at this Giralia. But the way it’s looking here, it looks as though he’s here to position Julio Chicone. Yes. Well, he’s in the position just leading Chicone here and it’s going to be an interesting one. Now, Chicone, we know, you know, he is a rider that if he’s really good, he’s not afraid to attack and he could go for a longer one. And maybe he will try that. Here he goes, Julio Chicorn, the local hero at the Gadalia trying to restore pink pride to Italy. We wait for the reactions. They take their while, but now they come with a man who wore pink at the finish four years ago. I am Bernnal is back is racing a grand tour and says that he is present and correct. Following him is Tibi. Then you’ve got Stora then a closing from Rogich. Doesn’t look like there are any big victims yet. So Chic Corn had the go. That was what Vat was doing. Chic corn is looking back and is trying to come back to help him some more. Goo off the back again. Here we go. Second go. Quick acceleration but it’s not the full committ. No, it’s not. He have everybody in his wheel. So, he’s not going to, you know, continue on his effort here. He’s just waiting. And Chikone is the one. He can, you know, just back off a bit and go again. That’s his fourth day point, but we see everybody is waiting here as we come to 1200 m to the finish line. Chicorn on the right hand side. Max Pool thinking about it. On the left, the picnic postell in a navy jersey through the center. You can see Del Toro UA still have wonderful numbers up there as well. Auso remains. McNelte still there. Yates is on the left hand side. Ardensman’s the next one who’s going to move here. Well, he’s not going to move off the front. He’s going to move to the front. Derek G still there, which is good news for him after his early trials and troubles. Tom Pickcock still hanging in at the back. That’s a Ruby on the left hand side for Maui Star. And with one kilometer to go, we wait for the next big acceleration. Gradient still at 10%, doesn’t change until the final couple of hundred meters. Ardensman on stage seven of the judo at the service of Agon Bernnal. A reminder 10 six and four bonus seconds are on offer. Latex still in the group and he’s at the back here. One acceleration might do for him and here comes that acceleration maybe. Arman setting the pace. 900 m to go. 12% the gradient. Thoughts of attacking. A yuso’s moving up. G’s going with him. Everybody wants that position here. If the legs are good, it’s time to go. Yes. And Del Toro, you can see he’s thinking of it here. He’s waiting until the moment when he needs to. Bernal though, who goes? Bernal goes bang. Can he do it? Del Toro wants to follow. Sean said he was right in there. EA Bernnal back where he belongs at the top of a climb at the Gro Italia. Can he take it home? The Colombian champion looks around. Chic cornes in third wheel. Terry trying to restore that pride to Italy of course and also there UAE. They’re in such a good position. We look down. We search for Primarich who should be following. He’s a bit further down here if he is. There he is on the wheel of Stoer trying to move up on the right hand side. Now it’s Aayusa who moves. Rogich caught out of position. Juanus’s turn to try and do something and to try and hit back of that timet deficit that Roglin inflicted upon him. Bernnal looks so good. Chicorn could bring things home. And Rogich is struggling here. Primosglitch showing his first bit of weakness at this Gino ditalia. He’s at the back and Yusa can see it. He looks round. Rogich has to react and it’s Hana Yus who has a grand tour to a stage win in his sights. The Gino Italia in play today. The first time we’ve seen the GC riders have a go at each other and Huana Yus riding away. A gap behind him. When he came here a few years ago, he walked away with the under 23 race. There’s been talk. He’s done a lot of it. And until now, he hasn’t walked the walk. But now, Hana Yus is going to be a grand tour stage winner. Jana Yus, the young man from Spain, riding away to the finish. He will take bonus seconds. He takes the win. Arms in the air and UAE with a oneu. Sensational stuff from Guana Yuso. It’s at Yusu then Toro Bernau who’s very much back. There was a late reaction from Rogich, but no bonus seconds for him. It is a reordering of the general classification and Hana Yusaw takes victory at the Jun Italy on stage 7. And that was beautifully played Sean by UAE Emirates. Yes. Well, well, very well played by this man. So he just uh you know followed followed and uh when he kicked he had the power there to just take the advantage and then behind they were all fighting to try and get back to him but just were not able and you know this is a turnaround for the books as we talked about earlier uh you know things can change a lot. a mountaintop finish the last days. You know, you can take a bit from that, but yeah, Roglitch suffering a bit. Looked like he was going to maybe struggle a bit more, but limit his losses quite well there. And yeah, what a what a final couple of hund meters on this manus. Well, Juan at the very least moves into the white jersey there. It’s going to be tight for the pink jersey. It could well be Primo Roglich, but Aayuso’s 10 bonus seconds takes him to 25 there. Roglich was at 17 and there was a gap. Was it big enough however to put Aayuso into the Maya Roza? There is Aayuso. This is Rogich. There’s a conversation with Pitari. But it’s all smiles at least. Yes. Uh it’s interesting to uh to see that. What was he saying to him there? Maybe maybe a very good job we perfect situation we’re in at the moment and who knows what you know the plan was today from Red Bull. It’s just a 4second gap from race winner on the day Hana Yuso to Primo Rogich Ausso wins the stage. We await confirmation but Primo should be into pink. A first grand tier stage win for one AU one of the big favorites coming into this race. Overshadowed you would have to say by the chances of Primos Roglish today. He is proving himself as if he needed to Robbie Mchuan that he is in this race. He’s here for the party. Pre-race we all talked about Primos Rob being a favorite with his pedigree five grand tours already to his name but Ausso the main challenger almost equal favorite and today he just showed that he is worthy of that mantle of equal favor of this race and he just blasted off and Rogich after letting his team ride all day missed the move. I mean for Rogitch here he’s not even shot yet and he ends up with those guys on the line. I don’t know if that was a bad day for Rogitch. looked to be on paper considering the riders that were there or thereabouts at the front like Chicone on a climb like that. Yes, it suits and yes, he’s local, but you expected Rob to be better than him. So, if that was a bad day, you question why he was smiling after the line. 4 seconds lost and bonus seconds obviously, but this early in the race, it’s nothing to worry about. Look at the way he’s come back from out of nowhere. He wasn’t even in the picture and we’re talking about such a a compact bunch coming into that final kilometer. We’re saying, well, someone could easily mess this up by getting boxed in. Maybe that is what happened to Rogers. He was really poorly placed when it started really happening. We sometimes question the cohesion, the direction of UAE team emirates in the absence of Tatty Pagato, but today they played a blinder. Red Bull doing all the work for most of the day. They were able to swip in and take a one two in the stage. Matt, well, yeah, they I mean they Red Bull stepped up, took it up pretty much all day long. Uh then we had a little bit of a little trick and then Rafa did what Rafa does so good. terminal velocity strips the group right down on the steeper slopes. does that so well then they end up one-twoing but they profited from the work of Rebel Bora Hansro but when a team does that you’re just going to let them do do it even with a depleted team now with Jiggon they they set them up I think they thought they might have got a little bit more out of Roglish I think we’ll find out post race whether Ragglitch was just misplaced or whether he was suffering we we’ll find out we shall see but brilliant brilliant one too but also the ride of the day for me save for the win from Ausso I am now flipping it I was cheering for that lad I mean the the guy was nearly out of the sport. Could have been worse. Ean Bernard third place nearly out of earth. Yeah. We were asking Inos about why are Inos riding here? But Aan is is putting out the best numbers of his life. That was a ride of real redemption and braverness from Egaban. Matt, as we watch that, remind us what this man has been through to even be in this race. Broke his back out training a few years ago um in Colombia. Basically was on his TT bike, looked round and hit the back of a bus. went into a stationary bus at a stationary bus and it was looking like he wasn’t going to walk again. Um, and he has he’s just had the backing of the team. He’s he’s fought and he’s slowly getting back to his best. In fact, at the moment, apparently, according to him, he’s putting out the best numbers of his career. Yet, we’re in a different world now. There’s a different riders have overtaken him. But that was a superb ride. But, correct me if I’m wrong. Hasn’t he also recently broken a collar bone in operation on that as well? He just keeps getting up and coming back. It’s so good to see him back at the point of a race when the stage winner is up for grabs. I know this race is on right now, but # egan for Egan for Jirro. I mean, I’ve got goosebumps just thinking about it. I think he’s a rider. He’s a person who has personified such grace, such determination. Adam, the way that he has managed to double down and commit to himself, commit to this sport with, as I said, I think the grace and the class of the man has shown through all the way through this 100%. I think he’s a true champion. You know, when when he was younger, when he won the tour to France, when he won the Jirro, you said it the other day. This man is going to win five grand tours and that’s going to be it. He could still win a grand tour, the form that he showed today. But the struggle to get there, we have no idea how hard that is. any of us like us mortals of the sport to get to a GC level. Even us guys, we’ve been in professional cycling, we’ve never ridden GC, we’ve never been understood that side of it and how difficult it can be. For him to be where he was to where he is now is just it’s almost beyond belief cuz it’s so so impressive. Yeah, I remember all of the cycling world applauding collectively when he posted on his social medias that he was standing up even, never mind getting back on a bike again. After all of that drama though, Primos Rocklitch is the Malar Rosa at the end of today. He has a 4second lead now over Juan Auso, 9 seconds over Isak Del Toro. We’ll bring you that top 10 once we can. But this is where I get excited, Robbie, because the GC battle has begun, hasn’t it? It really has. I mean, there was glimpses of it in the the time trial on day two. But this is the the first real uh measuring up between the favorites of this race on one of the the only mountain top finishes in this jur. There’s only a couple of them. So I think this was a really important one to for us to see who’s strongest uphill and even for that psychological blow as as well oneo although not leading the race just 4 seconds down on primos rogitch he is more than in this fight. Yeah but he also has Isaac Del Toro right beside him he has Brandon McNelte in that top 10 as well. So Max P has moved up two spots from the start of the day. He was in seventh I think or was it eighth? Anyway, he is now in fifth. Michael Storeer has moved up. McNelte, Vachek, Simon Yates now into the top 10 as indeed is Richard Carropaz and we’re starting to get a bit of an idea as to how this GC may well shape up. Even though, as we say, it is very, very early stages. Only one more mountaintop finish to come, but there are plenty of hilly stages, Matt, and it’s a different kind of testing terrain over which these guys are going to be battling it out for the pink jersey because we have a lot that are that are leveling off just after the crest of the mountain. So we’ve still got plenty of testing road to come. Yeah, we’ve got the likes of the the the uh the K Finestra for example where Chris Froom took off back on route to a sensational victory. We’ve got some big big climbs but as you say the Motorola and the K Finestra where they’re placed it’s deeper into the Jurro but they’re well over like 60 70ks away from the finish. So, still hard climbs, but at a different point. But again, this climb today, although it was a mountain top finish with that 5k lead into the final 2k to the top, still had a different feel. It’s still densely packed at the top. We’ve still got the true mountains to come, but we are now getting a sense of who are going to be the the riders to to look for today. Um, but yeah, that’s our first taste, but the true true mountains are still to come in this race. It’s it’s teed things up beautifully. One of the losses for UA is Adam Yates in that. He slipped out the top 10. He’s come down a little bit. We saw him he was out of the top 10 already. Was he not 12 I think at the start of today? I think he’s might be even 13th or 14th now. But he’s definitely he’s lost more time. He um he’s on the final climb there. He’s been riding with a bandage on his leg. So might be a bit injured still. I saw pictures after yesterday from UAE team. Skin off his shoulder, his hip, his knee. He went down really quite hard in that crash yesterday. So to even be in that group with a kilometer to go and lose just a few seconds is a really good effort considering what he went through yesterday. Yeah, absolutely. Yesterday we had Hannah waiting at the team bus, didn’t we? trying to get an update from Adam yet. No wonder he didn’t come out. Yeah, absolutely. A long night for him. We’ll see just where he is in GC in a moment. But the pink jersey has now gone from the shoulders of Mads Penison to Primo’s Rogich. It has been a phenomenal start to this race for Needle Trek and a wonderful ride today for Julia Jacuni. Let’s hear from his teammate Fek. Uh you said yesterday this morning that you would have tried hard you were close but in the end the steepest section was probably too hard for you. Yeah, I mean uh I tried my best. I was feeling good actually in the climb and yeah in the steepest section then the last scale I started attacking and it was bit too much for me the the the pace and yeah for me it’s better always going a steady pace but yeah anyway I tried it and I’m not regretting anything cuz yeah I mean still I was there with the best climbers of the world and yeah I give it my best like I said I I’m not giving up that easy And yeah tried my best in the end it was not enough but we are going for another stages and yeah we see but it was a great effort from the team again and yeah for me it was not enough but I’m still happy with the performance. Thank you so much. He seems a little disappointed by his result there. What did you make of that interview Adam? Interestingly he said I’m not giving up on the fight for GC still. I think his attributes of what we’ve seen, he looks like he can keep growing as a rider and he looks like he was happy with his ride today. He said he was, but just a little bit off the mark compared to those GC riders. An exceptional performance from him. But this sounds harsh. I’d much rather him drop out GC and try some stages rather than just come 10th, 14th, 15th on these mountain top days. That’s purely selfish for entertainment value of seeing him race at his best. But I hope he just doesn’t get sucked into that too much in this grand tour because he has got it within him to win a stage. And I feel like if he focuses on this GC, he will sacrifice so many opportunities at a stage win and maybe get 10th on a really hard day, maybe top three, I don’t know, but he can definitely go out, set his sights on a couple of stages, and I think be a lot more successful. That’s very entertaining as well. As you said, do it for the fact, do it for the fun, do it for the crack, as we say back home. Um, we’re going to turn our attentions back to UAE Team Emirates then because Hannah Walker has made her way to the team bus. Hannah, walk us around. Talk us around what’s going on out there. Oh, it’s been incredible. We’re around 15 kilometers uh from the finish line right now, but we’ve been watching closely. We saw the race come past just behind us here, and I’ve managed to grab Machin. Machin, first of all, congratulations. What a a victory there for Juan Uso, but it was also a one-two for UAE team XRG with Isaac Del Toro in second. You must be delighted with that performance. Amazing for the the work of the riders. All guys is amazing in the in the concept of the working of the team work and Ja in the first moment try to enter in the breakaway. keep fighting a lot for for this center and after his push they did the red bulb bora covered barini perfect all all day and aretta for the final two gays in front with the cover the teammates it’s five guys I don’t know maybe 20 riders and after is the try to don’t enter in the keep fighting directly with the perfect position or perfect area for a rogage with this this arrive it’s perfect characteristic for a for roage for this idea is the shirts that anticipate maybe Brendon maybe and maybe Juan with the situation of the of the moment on the on the left Juan try perfect and after remain with the del to for the pure spring and after first and second perfect on this first mountain test how important is this for Juanuso to try and win the malarosa particularly for the confidence the morale it’s for the morale it’s important for the for the confidence and it’s the the first the first battle is Perfect for us for the only for second for this is not important respect of the of the the gap but this is important for respect of the condition and the what is the level of the team and the and the Juan and and another teammates. Impressive performance from the Mexican Isaac Del Toro in second as well. I mean he’s still so young but he’s proving himself. It’s amazing amazing person. It’s amazing rider you know. you saw and Matt is a good good person. I love it these guys and after is the concept of the teammates and the concept of the team war and always is happy for the victory and today working for maybe one tomorrow maybe for another and this concept is just one last question how is Adam Yates because of course we know he came down in that crash yesterday we saw him at the back of the group in that that final how is he feeling after that crash for Adam today is a super explosive stage for this is save the stage remain with the with the best riders and after arriving in the the big mountain is the is the is the area of of the other. Thanks a lot, Machin. Enjoy this victory. I’m sure you’ll have some great celebrations this evening. It’s wonderful to get the reaction from Machin there on on that incredible victory from Huana Uso. It was Hannah. I understand you dashed straight over to Machin when you saw him emerging from the team bus. So well done for nabbing him before he disappeared. Now, I know that where you are right now, the team buses, as is often the case when we have a summit finish, the buses don’t make it right to the top when they’re a little bit of a distance away. So, we might not have the usual activity where you are. But, would you mind taking a little walk and showing us around exactly what you can see there? What’s going on around you at the moment? Yeah. Just run on the team bus, Hannah, see what happens. Get on there, little Come on. Come on. Well, this is actually the the end of the uh I tell you what, why not? Come with me. Come with me. Let’s see what we’ve got behind here because I know we’ve got Picnic Postel who are over here. Maybe Tudtor will let us in. Let’s see if TUDA will let us into the team. Let’s have a little look as to what’s going on. As I say, it’s it’s relatively quiet. Maybe I maybe I could get my uh my elbows in. Let’s see if one of the performance directors is in here. Bear with me one second, Ricardo. Oh, this is it. This is it. Get straight in there. We’re live on Sports. Can we come on in? my salad. He’s just eating his salad, but why not? Come on in. That’s fine. You just take your time. Another wonderful performance there from Michael Store. Hey, Ricardo. So, let’s move back down here a little bit. Let our cameraman in. Ricardo, another wonderful performance from the team there, particularly with Michael Store. A first mountain test. How did you envision that from a performance perspective? That was excellent. I think the team I was committed as every day. Um yesterday four riders from from us crashed including Michael Florian today. Um yeah he we saw everyone giving giving his their best and um and then Michael in a very explosive final. I think he did a pretty good job, but uh you know the yeah more explosive riders on a on a climb that was long but the steepest part was only on the two last 2 and a halfk. I think he did excellent now 600cc I think um another another day ticked so ready for the next. Is this where you envisaged him to be more or less? Is he already exceeding expectations? Putting you on the spot here. Well, we’re happy. We’re happy with uh where we are today. Of course, the objective is to be top 10. So, we are sixth, so it’s good. Absolutely fantastic. Fantastic. Ricardo, thanks very much for letting us in. I’ll uh try and get our cameraman down here safely. We’ve got all of the Just ask food for the riders here. We’re all with their full tour around the bus. Boxers, go on, Adam. Have a little walk around the bus. We’ve not seen him there before. The viewers, ask Ricardo if it’s all right. Adam Bolive wants to know, are we allowed a full tour of the bus? We’re live right now. Blaming you if you say, “What do we think? Are we allowed?” One second. Here we go. One second. Here we go. Yeah, this is the house of the riders. Every team has seats. Our doctor Peter, he’s here waiting because he has to bandage all the crash riders from yesterday. Andre, our bus driver. And then showers and uh our uh living room, small living room in the back. Food is waiting, showers are waiting. So ready and importantly for recovery. Absolutely ready for recovery. The recovery shakes are there. The food is there. Ricardo, thank you very much. Absolutely wonderful to have that insight. And Ricardo says hi to you, Adam. He sends and passes on his regards. Yeah, sorry. Tell him sorry after that. Hannah, that was absolutely brilliant. I’ve got to say, hats off to you. I have never seen anyone manage to storm a team bus live on air after a stage. You’ve got it, girl. Well done. That was absolutely brilliant. And I love seeing the different setup within the buses as well because this is what’s usually completely cut off to the fans and and it’s sort of this mysterious um other world almost. And the riders all peek their head out through the curtains and the fans get all excited, then they disappear back in again. So, it’s lovely to see exactly what’s going on there. So, I presume, Hannah, that uh it will be a little while before the riders make it back down there again. Is that right? Yeah, it’ll be a little while. And also, all of the uh sports directors have followed the the riders up there, both team cars. So, it’s not just the the first team car that’s followed the riders up to the top of the climb and to the finish, but both of them uh have have followed up. So, as I say, it’s it’s very much calm before the storm here, calm before the chaos will begin when the riders start to arrive. And then, of course, both team cars will come back down with with sports directors. So, at the moment, it’s very relaxed as you saw there. You saw Andrea sitting very comfortably, the the bus driver of Pro Cycling, Ricardo the performance manager. They’re all just taking a moment to breathe at the moment until I barged in. Yeah, Hannah, I can’t wait for this. every day now. We’re just going to pick a bus at Lucky Dip and send you on it. Good luck, girl. Thank you so much, Hannah. I really appreciate that. That’s amazing insight. We love it. We’ll let you get on with the rest of your day there. And this might be a bit of a dated reference, but you remember Challenge Anakah. I was going to say Challenge Hannah. All she needs is a jumpsuit and a helicopter and a pack on her back. She had to hold on her back as she sprinted through wherever she was
