Hey everyone,

I’m training for my first Half Ironman on July 6th, and I’m finally ready to get out on the road after doing all of my cycling training so far on a Peloton. I’m new to road cycling and know very little about bikes, so I could really use some help making a decision.

I’m currently torn between two options:
• Trek Domane AL 4 Gen 4 – brand new, $2,200 CAD
• Jamis Xenith Team Dura Ace – used, $3,600 CAD

Both options include a free bike fitting, which is great. I know the Jamis has much higher-end components (Dura Ace), but I’m not sure how much that matters for someone like me who’s just starting out. The Trek is aluminum with a 105 groupset and seems like a more beginner-friendly choice.

This will be my first Half Ironman, but I do plan to keep riding regularly after the race—both for fitness and maybe future events—so I want something that’s reliable and can grow with me.

My main priorities are:
• Comfort and reliability
• Good enough for Half Ironman training and race day
• Value for the money (don’t want to overpay for features I might not benefit from yet)
• Long-term usability for recreational riding and possible future races

Any advice or thoughts on which direction I should go? Thanks so much in advance!
