In this episode I build up my new YT Decoy SN e-MTB at home, and take it for a spin on Double O, a new black jumps trail in the Ballyhoura Mountains. Watch to the end to see my review of the bike and the trail. It might just be the best jump line in the Ballyhouras.

Thanks for the support.

We’ll see how good my mechanic skills are. Is this sort of stuff even allowed on YouTube? You’ll be okay. No idea. Here we are. Second YouTube video now. And we are unboxing my new Decoy SN. This is the mullet one. And weather’s good outside. So, we’re going to build it up. Weather’s definitely better than the last day we were out YouTube vlogging. And uh going to get out on one of the new trails called Double O, nicknamed after me. and see what it’s like and get some content this evening. So, we’ll get started and we’ll see how good my mechanic skills are. It’s although it comes pretty built out of the box, so I shouldn’t be too bad. I’m going to start with putting the handlebars on. If I wasn’t doing a YouTube video, I’d probably just wait until my mechanic came over next week to do this, but I’m a bit too excited to ride the bike, too. So, we’re just going to tackle it now. It shouldn’t be too hard, though. to take some stem balls out and put handlebars on. I’ve heard lots of good things about this bike. I haven’t really ridden one properly yet, so it’ll be good to see what it’s like this evening out on the tracks and give it a good rip. [Music] For people that don’t know, although everybody probably probably does know, I only found this out a few years after using rental stuff. You’re actually meant to have Oh, no. Never mind. I’m actually after making the first mistake already after putting the stem on. But the bottom clamp has to be tight, flush, and then the gap is between here. So, you do up the bottom bolt tight as it’ll go and then you tighten the top one, which I used to always wonder, oh, why are my bars rolling back? Because I didn’t tighten the stem properly. Just a quick [Music] tip. We’ll get them more dialed in a minute. We’ll just flip it upside down for the time being. get the front wheel in. I think this is the topsp spec one um of the Decai SN with the full Fox factory and everything. As you can see, it has all the best stuff. Fox suspension, coil shock on the back, which is nice instead of an air. Just give that kind of bit of an extra supple feel. Um, it’s got a full rental cockpit, Continental tires, which I’m used to, Crank Brothers wheels, which I’m used to. Just need to put on my own TRP brakes, which we’ll do for the next day. We’ll just ride the bike how it is today, straight out the box, and see what it’s like. This is going to be a fast bike build. We’re on two wheels already from scratch. I’d say I need a day to do it. I was always told if you ride them fast enough, you shouldn’t be you shouldn’t need to work on them yourself. So that was my idea of thinking. It’s nice that it comes pretty much built. We just need to put air in the forks, pedals, and set the handlebars up. What would really top this off is if it had gold 38 lowers. Wait. Have to get my hands on the set. On the downhill bike. 88. And we’re about to find out what I’m about to put in this in 2 minutes. I really don’t know. The ebikes just seem to ride so good as a a mullet, especially here at home in the tighter tracks. Um, it’s just nice having a small back wheel for the tight techy enduro stuff to just rip around and get the back end of the bike around faster. Although there’s not many people actually using full 29s on downhill at all. I think really the only ones are me and Andy Culp and that’s it. Fresh Crank Brother Mallet DH’s going on. It’d be rude not to put a new set of pedals on a new bike. I’ve only ever used Crank Brother mallets and I think basically most of the World Cup circuit also uses mallets. I think it’s nearly everyone’s go-to pedal. actually really excited to ride this bike. Right, we’re pretty much nearly there. Looks like a bike. I couldn’t find the pipe cutter, so some people are probably won’t be too impressed with what I’m about to do, but we’re about to take the angle grinder to the handlebars. I’m just going to get safety first and get a pair of I’ll just take a pair of Oakleys from here. Is this sort of stuff even allowed on YouTube? It’ll be okay. I have no idea. [Music] [Music] That’s not definitely not a straight cut. I mean, right, that stinks. Jesus. Definitely got a bit of filing to do. Right. I’ve seen worse. could have definitely done a worse job. My mechanic’s going to be watching this and he’s going to be like, “Fuck.” Right. We’re lucky that rental has the marks already on. Sometimes you just have to make do with what you got. And right now that is just angle grinder cuz we have nothing else there. So, we’re putting on rental ultra tacky grips. I actually after riding all winter without putting on new grips, I’m after forgetting how sticky these grips actually are. So, I’ll definitely be putting a set of gloves on today because they’re like actual glue in the grip. So, when they’re fresh and when you have new gloves and stuff on, it’s like it’s a nice feeling when the the glove like sticks to the grip and especially when it’s wet out, too. It’s um no fear of your hands slipping off. I’m actually a fan. Some people don’t are like freaked out by them because they’re so sticky. They’re like, “What have you done to your grips?” But I like them. I’ve been using them for I don’t know how long. Probably six or seven years these grips or carnage. People are going to be watching this like this guy should not be allowed new [Music] stuff. Right, we’re good. Might have to move that in in a minute. I’ll set up the cockpit. Now, these are quite high-rise handlebars, aren’t they? Not sure what high rise they are, but usually I run 30 mil R. I’m not sure if they’re higher or not. The brakes are European style. That’s the one good thing about Shramm. A quick fix today. You can just swap the levers around. You don’t have to take the hoses out or anything. Yeah, they’re like universal, which is nice. Um, model. What size Aninky is this? It’s a Torx, right? It’s going down on its side. Stuff’s getting serious. As you can see, don’t really have the perfect tools for this, but we’re making it work. Um, right, we’re on now. That’s tightened. That moved in. Grips against there. We’re back. It’ll also be interesting to see how long the battery lasts in this bike um with it being the smaller one. And it’s got electric gears in this one, too, which is nice. I thought it would have been faster this than what I was. Tighten this one. Bolts on for the grips. And we are pretty much done. I have no clue if there’s Oh, there must be tubes in, which for today will be good. We’ll just run tubes. We’re going straight from box to the track by the angle grinder. Via the angle grinder. Would not recommend cutting your bars down at home with an angle grinder. But anyway, I’m actually running a 20 24 in the front and 27 in the back. It’s kind of what I kind of run, give or take a PSI or so. Just quickly going with these. She’s kind of counting the clicks and keeping them Yeah. centered. Is it? I’m kind of going as open as possible with all the compression and [Music] rebound. That’s the shop. This is quickly readjusting suspension. The last two winters I probably been riding the most amount of ebikes I ever have. Just ebikes are so good. if you do a gym session in the morning to go out and legs might be tired after heavy squats and you can go out and get a pile of downhill laps, techy laps still in without being too fatigued going up the hill. So you can in the space of an hour get two or three quality laps in rebound and we are good to go. [Music] pressure cap on and that is bike ready. I’m proud of that. So, it’s the new motor in this one. Um, and it’s all done by a little thumb switch here which goes I’m actually not too sure what they call the modes, but there’s three different modes in it. And I wrote it around and there’s actually if you hold it I need to look in the box, but if you hold it a certain way or like press down on it, it gives you 15 seconds of boost while you’re cycling like almost like an extra turbo. So I think that’s turbo, the max one. That must be like trail eco and off. That must be boost mode with it flashing. We’ll figure that out as we ride it. Time to get helmet on and see what it’s like. It’s not even heavy for an ebike. Heat. Heat. [Music] I almost got it. I was so close, but I know I’ll end up It’s one of them things that I could be there an hour if I need to. My first review of the bike after riding one properly is unbelievable. Probably going to be my new favorite bike, the one I ride the most. Um, even more than the original Decoy. And yeah, the track paired with this, it’s just good fun, lapping, jumps, playful. But yeah, that’s the second YouTube video wrapped up and I’m sure you’re going to see a good few more throughout the season. So again, if you want to follow for more, just hit like the video and subscribe.
